From Wikipedia's LOL entry:

On March 24, 2011, LOL, along with other acronyms, was formally recognized in an update of the Oxford English Dictionary.[19][30] In their research, it was determined that the earliest recorded use of LOL as an initialism was for "little old lady" in the 1960s.[31] They also discovered that the oldest written record of the use of LOL in the contemporary meaning of "Laughing Out Loud" was from a message typed by Wayne Pearson in the 1980s, from the archives of Usenet.[32]
Note "earliest recorded use". Obviously not current, but it would have caught me out too (and probably anyone else who didn't read dictionaries from cover to cover).

'The Moon!'

Not exactly news but the questions (today especially) are ridiculously easy.

Just as well based on this lot so far.

"Which currency did Germany adopt in 1999?"

Can't believe he didn't get that.

2 out of 3 riders for that chap. Appalling timing.

ETA only to be out done by Doreen! It's astonishing to watch. Do they not see what's happening?

None of today's contestants appear to have the slightest idea when the best time to release the counter is.

Difficult questions today though, eg, The bane of gardeners, what animal causes molehills?

Indeed, tough one that. Almost as hard as which Irish city do Dubliners come from!

The front cover of which classic Beatles album features 57 photographs and 9 waxworks of a variety of famous people?

Let It Be.

Seriously, what the hell was Doreen on?!

I reckon that must have been the record for the amount of riders in one show

And did he learn from the early riders? No he kept on doing the same thing, I have to say it just baffles me as Tipping Point has been around for ages and you would have assumed the contestants have seen previous episodes and realised the major cause of riders.

Well deserved winner in Heidi, good general knowledge (very rare on this show) and timing the drops to perfection.

She was weak on the questions in the final round, only two right.

Yeah, I thought she was going to do much better than that. I spoke too soon.

I only got home in time to see the final round so I'll have to take your word for her good general knowledge. It must have deserted her in the final.

Heidi did alright until the final round when a sudden lack of knowledge let her down. Four wrong answers out of six by her even with multi choices given there was a little bad. Maybe nerves got to her.

Although to be fair to her, by Tipping Point standards I thought the final round questions were quite tough. Having said that I think I'd have got 4.

By the way, has anyone heard of a "doula" before? I had to put on the subtitles and replay that bit to work out what she said, and then I had to Google it.

I've heard of it from a US TV show, but it's killing me trying to remember which one.

I can't believe Aiden refused the trade. Ben "proved" he would have won the Jackpot had he taken it.

Given that he only had a few counters fall behind the jackpot counter out of the 18 he dropped I don't blame him for refusing the trade. We all know he may, or may not, have won despite what Ben "proves" after the event.

That bl**dy tipping point machine. 18 counters in at the final and the jackpot counter barely shifted at times as the counters stayed away. Then suddenly when we see the what if at the end the counters move over and it might have dropped for the big prize.

Blame the bloke inside the machine who drops the counter when the light comes on.

Different counters on the what if bit I'm thinking. There was a 70 -80 -percent bias on the finalists lot where as the crucial three all headed right for the jackpot counter ( boo hiss ).
