From Wikipedia's LOL entry:

Note "earliest recorded use". Obviously not current, but it would have caught me out too (and probably anyone else who didn't read dictionaries from cover to cover).
That one caught me out too. Never heard of LOL meaning Little Old Lady!

By the way, has anyone heard of a "doula" before? I had to put on the subtitles and replay that bit to work out what she said, and then I had to Google it.
I thought I'd heard her wrong! Never heard of a doula, had to Google it like you!

I think Mark can do well in the final round today if he gets the answers correct. He times the counter drop perfectly.

It never ceases to amaze me how one person times the drop spot on and does well and the other three never realise why they get riders and the other contestant doesn't.

Trade trade trade trade.

Idiot. With the counter that close to the edge there was only one way it was going.

Why on earth did he not trade?! The top shelf was full, the jackpot counter was on the edge...

Trade trade trade trade.

Idiot.
No doubt I would have done the same as Mark did and refused the trade but I was encouraging him to take the trade. The top shelf was well stocked to get the jackpot counter over as was "proved" with the first "let's see if you could have won" counter.

£3700 is a lot of money to risk, but I thought that declining the trade was an ultra-conservative decision given that configuration.

He would have needed to be incredibly unlucky not to nudge the jackpot counter over with 3 attempts, and so it proved.

Since when did Lambretta make motorbikes?

"Motorbike" was allowed as an answer instead of scooter.

A motorbike and a scooter are two completely different things.

You could be pedantic and say that a scooter is a motorised two-wheeler which is what "motor bicycle" means anyway.

I am guessing that technically they had to allow it.

You would have thought a bloke with a MA would have guessed Tarmacadam.

I thought this on a few questions he was unable to answer, isn't it sometimes better to take a guess??

Well done Amy!! You deserved to win.

Spend some of your £10K on a lottery ticket.

He didn't even know what the A stood for in MA and he has one.

After a slow start she made it look quite comfortable as her timing on the drops was good and the counters followed the line of the jackpot one. Nice to see she'll spend it on a car and not frivolities like shoes.

You don't need a great general knowledge brain for this show, it is the luck of the drop, as was proved in the jackpot round.

She was sensible going for 3 counters on stuff she didn't know like F1 for example. It annoys me when people say "I don't really know anything about x so I'll just go for 1/2 counters". If you don't know anything you might as well go for 3, as you've got just as good a chance of guessing the answer.

Its often better to remain quiet and appear stupid than open your mouth and remove all doubt.

Glad Amy won. She is worth a go on my willie

The first British Grand Prix was held on which racecourse?

Brands Hatch, Silverstone or Goodwood?

I misunderstood that question completely because I automatically associate the word racecourse with horse racing. And the only one of those three that's got a racecourse is Goodwood. I couldn't believe it when Silverstone was the correct answer.

I've never heard the word racecourse used in connection with motor racing. They usually say track or circuit.

It turns out in fact that they used to have the British Grand Prix at Aintree in the fifties.

I think that's a bit cruel. If her general knowledge had been woeful she wouldn't have won. In any case she proved to be the best of the four contestants today. Her parents must be proud of her.

She mostly got through with lucky guesses. The ones she got wrong on the final categories showed a woeful lack of general knowledge.

Yes, that well-known game Macbeth...

Mind you, I'm still glad she won!

She guessed most of the answers.

Same here. Even if you were guaranteed to know every 1 counter question and had to guess every 3 counter question, your EV is exactly the same as you're 1 in 3 to get 3 counters. Saying that, even on the categories I'm bad at, some of the 3 counter questions aren't that hard.
