I don't know, that sounds quite fun. I'd certainly rather have that than a spa break or a day's cookery course or some of the other ones they have.

These spot prizes aren't meant to be all that valuable, they're just a bit of fun, so Ben can say, "You've won a mystery prize!"

As an aside, at the 1900 Olympics, they had live pigeon shooting, although they weren't official Olympic events and no medals were awarded. There were cash prizes for the winners.

My idea of a good mystery prize would be the Flight Simulator experience or something involving food or drink

And Paul_Mount, don't bother coming back here if you go for anything less than 3 counters in the final

Another thing that surprises me is the fuss on Twitter when someone passes to someone else. It's part of the game and makes a lot of sense early on.

The other day there was a question in the jackpot round:

"Who was left in the Command Module orbiting the Moon during the Apollo 11 mission?"

Now I knew that right away, Michael Collins. Fairly standard pub quiz/trivia question.

The options came up: Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins, Buzz Aldrin, the three members of the Apollo 11 crew. If you knew that Armstrong and Aldrin were the first two that walked on the Moon, then it has to be Michael Collins. You would get it right even if you'd never heard of him, just by knowing it couldn't be the other two. And that was a three point question, supposedly the "difficult" category.

It might have made it a bit harder if they'd included other astronauts who walked on the Moon instead of Armstrong and Aldrin, say Pete Conrad (the third man on the Moon) and Alan Shepard.

But then this is Tipping Point, I suppose.

I wonder what the one point question was in the Space category?

"Who was the first man to walk on the Moon?"

A) Neil Armstrong
B) Neil Diamond
C) Neil Kinnock.

I wouldn't rule out some of them still getting it wrong.

A bit like the current viewers' prize question:

What would a person use to weigh themselves?

A) Bathroom scales
B) Kitchen scales
C) Fish scales

A real toughie, that one.

"What fruit is limeade made with?"

Candidate for the easiest question ever on TP? There's stiff competition though to be fair.

Even if you don't know, there's a 1 in 7 chance of guessing correctly.

Jess looks so smug as she knows she has got into the final.

I hope Nigel gets a massive fall of counter with a X2 and beats her

Another poor final round carrying on where yesterday's finalist left off. She was lucky in getting most of her winnings from two double counters.

Fish scales!

Hahaha

That's how they get their money though; lots of people enter the competition because the question is so easy, and because of that they raise the £16k or even more that is required for the winner.

I missed todays episode but this must have been close to the record of the most winnings in the first round! Did it involve a large drop and a x2 counter?

Yes it was. They need to scrap that X2 counter.

Rather than scrap it, why not give each player a '2x' Joker, like in It's A Knockout, and they could choose to play it before a drop. It'd add a bit more strategy to the game.

I doubt it would. Except for the first couple of drops in the game, the number of counters you get in each drop is almost completely random. There can be a whole load of them piled up ready to drop one of the zones, and then either the counter misses them completely, or only one or two of them drop.

The x2 counter probably should be scrapped. It is not in the production companies' interest for one player to be able to build up such a huge lead in the first round that it's basically game over there and then. Not to mention it's not much fun for the other players left in, who now know they've got next to no chance of winning. I didn't see it today but it can't be easy for Ben either, who's got to keep going with the show and try and make it interesting when everybody knows the next two rounds are probably meaningless.

I am surprised they persist with it. The game is random enough without making it even more open to one player getting a lucky drop with the x2 counter and virtually getting a bye to the jackpot round.
