Bit of a let down, I think Ben was put off that our analytical chemist couldn't recall the chemical symbol for iron

I couldn't believe that an analytical chemist didn't know the most basic elements of the periodic table.

I had to pause the TV and invite my 13 year old daughter to answer the question. Although she didn't know that a stannary was a cornish tin mine she did know the chemical symbols for Lead, Tin and Iron. From that she easily worked out that it was tin (Sn).

That proves to me that the question was basic, school chemistry knowledge and she was supposed to be an analytical chemist.....my arse!

Roy just mounted it!

But I don't know if I can forgive him for not knowing who Elizabeth l's father was.

Yeah that's stuck in my mind too. He otherwise answered very well.

Roy should have gambled. Ben proved beyond all doubt he would have won the Jackpot, maybe, perhaps.

Yes you just can't tell what would have happened if he'd actually gone for it, it didn't look that promising to me - always possible but not odds on like it does sometimes.

Couple of things annoyed me about today's show.

Question asked was "On an analogue clock, what number is the little hand pointing to if it's 17:00?" and the contestant answered with 5PM. However, they couldn't accept that because they only wanted the number.

BUT, later on, the tie-breaker question in round 3 was to name the colour of the symbol that indicates a warm front from a Met Office forecast. Contestant said 'red semi-circle' and that was accepted.

How the hell can they accept 'red semi-circle' but not 5PM? I call bullshit on that!

I was puzzled by the red semicircle thing, because on the TV weather forecast (BBC), fronts are always shown in black.

Deborah must be one of the luckiest finalists for ages. £1200 with one drop courtesy of the double counter.

She's just said a kilohertz is 3hz
