Yes, the news about Bernard Gallagher broke mid week but very quietly. Only a brief death notice rather than full obituary in the print copy of The Guardian. I didn't notice an acknowledgement or dedication on screen but I don't think they've ever had one for a former cast member dying.
I find Casualty so hard to watch now. I have to force myself to sit through it. I did agree with Connie. Anybody could come into A&E at death's door, or with a relative at death's door any moment and aside from the very real infection risk, they emotionally probabky wouldn't want the debateabke happiness if Christmas shoved down their throat. |

Dylan is the only reason I watch these days. Almost everyone else in it gets on my nerves and/or is totally unconvincing.

Good to see DS Bolton from The Bill
![]() I quite liked the episode. I loved the Dylan/Seb stuff and I like that we are starting to see why Alicia may have been like she is - she doesn't think she's worth someone like Ethan, so has settled for Cal. |

Another infantile episode and the "actress" playing Duffy should hang her head in shame. Dreadful stuff.

I'm looking forward to seeing more of the development of the Grace story. I have a feeling Emily Carey is going to be a little star in this storyline. I wonder how long it'll be until Connie breaks down completely, though -- she seems very much on the edge already and her behaviour at work just supports that theory.
Much as it pains me to agree with Archie Grayling on anything, it really was a tacky team party, absolutely painful to watch. And I don't know why, but I really didn't like Louise this episode. And what was that business about announcing Robyn's pregnancy to the world when she obviously wasn't ready to make it public yet? Am I the only one who thought Jez was completely in the wrong over that, even if Robyn doesn't seem to have minded it? |

I still can't believe this is the same Cathy Shipton as the one in the early years of Casualty - her acting is abysmal these days compared to how natural she was back then.

An improvement on last week. I wish they'd stop with the half-naked men. Yes, he's got a great bod but it's just so gratuitous and unnecessary.

Was I the only one who thought that everyone already knew about Robyn's pregnancy?!
Poor Seb. I wonder how this will end up? Will he have a breakdown and Dylan feel guilty (not that he should though). Then enter Lofty and Dylan can try and rectify things with him ![]() Any word on if Lee is returning soon? |

The nativity thing was rescued for me by the Regular Extras being involved:
Blonde nurse Guy wot looks a bit like Sacha from Holby Howard from the Halifax ad |

I was really disappointed in this week's episode, other than the two brief scenes with Grace, and the scenes with Seb and Dylan even though I found those scenes somewhat painful.
I'm also really disappointed in Duffy's return. I wish they'd just kept it to the guest appearances for the anniversary and left it at that. I'm now really hoping that the plan is that she and Charlie are going to go off into the sunset together, because I don't think I can handle her being around long-term, and I never thought I'd say that! |

One thing duffys return has taught me is don't wish for past great characters to come back. I've rarely been so dissapointed as I have with her return.

I said this before and I'll say it again but I prefer Tess to Duffy and despite her faults (eg: the affair with Fletch), she was always focused on her job and she was a very believable CNM.
I don't know what happened to Cathy Shipton's acting but I hope she improves soon or her acting becomes more natural. It appears she was brought back for the 'Chuffy' storyline and I would be OK with it if Charlie is leaving at the end of this series because he deserves a happy ending. |

But yes, Grace's scenes and the awkward ongoing thing with Dylan and Seb were the highlights. In some ways, Seb is like a dark-side version of Lofty. He's connected himself to Dylan (got behind his defences), he's impulsive, and more than a little rough around the edges professionally... but unlike Lofty with his 'gift for human connection', or whatever that quote was, Seb has a gift for human discord, poor sod. I really like the characterisation. For context, the love triangle scenes should have been painful, excruciating, embarrassing but they felt plodding to me. My only difficulty watching them was that I was bored. Seb's mistake with Dylan though, that was acutely painful, excrucia... etc. Thanks to the actors, and the writing of two characters with plausible depth and complexity. I do not mind one bit that Seb is a complete arse. |

And I don't mean that in a "best of a bad bunch" way, I mean he actually is a good character. Shame his character will always be trapped in Casualty, very wasted. |

Agree with you and all the posters lamenting Duffy's decline. She was enticingly professional and good in the anniversary episodes. I confess I was looking to her full return as one of the influences that might save Casualty from its drift into soap. How wrong that was. On the bright side, I really like the way Charlie is with her, if not the way she is with Charlie. Can you have one-way chemistry? She makes him natural and warm.

I agree about the likenesses between Lofty and Seb. I wonder if Dylan will try to right some wrongs with Seb which should have been Lofty's.

I thought Ethan's date scenes were really well done, you could feel the awkwardness on that awful empty dance floor. I liked his date, she'd be a great recurring character.
Why don't they give Elle some work to do ... her constant cheeriness is really starting to irritate me, why should Connie go to the party if she doesn't want to? And it was a god awful party, hardly Connies thing by any stretch of the imagination. Connie was relatively polite and restrained for her. And why was Elle and everyone else congratulating Robyn on her pregnancy and saying how exciting it was .. my first thought would be is she happy about this? Her partners gone awol and is terminal, she is emotionally distraught and she is going to have to bring this child up all alone ... perhaps we should find out how she feels about it before cracking open the champers .... But a much much better ep than last week for me. |

I wouldn't be partying just yet as I fear that there is a very good chance we could end up with Erika Hossington as EP!

Why can't they just focus on the patient storylines, sick of most of the episode being taken up with love triangles and mind numbing nonsense, personally I found the start of the episode where the brother was banging the boring geordie shore wannabe tacky, it shows how far the show has slipped under that mess that is named Kent. I watch Game of Thrones so I'm no prude but in Casualty it just felt so wrong. On reflection the geordie show crowd likely have more class than this Alicia girl.
As for Grace, get rid ASAP, not a Connie fan but she worked as a strong focused bitch, this settled and caring side is just not working to be honest, a good opportunity was missed by not killing of her daughter. Honestly I'm not interested in the Grace storyline unless she is admitted to Casualty as after all that is the shows title, if I want a faded past it's glory days kitchen sink drama then I will watch Eastenders, I have mentioned this before but Casualty is becoming more and more pedestrianised as each week goes by, last weeks episode with all that Oz nonsense stank like a Chicago knocking shop at first light, this weeks episode was only saved by the patient storylines. Another thing that rankles me is the dire performances of some members of the cast, I remember when Derek Thompson could act and put in a pretty good performance yet now he might as well phone it in, Cathy Shipton has always been bad but made to look better through good direction and scripts. Now she is just embarrassing herself. Chelsea Halfpenny is just abysmal, if she has an acting qualification from a recognised drama school then I'd be surprised, going by her performance so far in Casualty I have to say I'm tempted to crowdfund in order to send her to a prestigious acting establishment just to see if it will spare us the pain of future abysmal performance. I just realised Jill Halfpenny is her aunt very surprising cause I like Jill's work so aunt must have got the charisma and all the talent. Lastly but not least I spare my harshest criticism for Chucky Venn, stank in Eastenders, stinks in Casualty, watching him I don't see a believable interpretation of a NHS nurse manager, I see a parody, he is just dreadful and it's clear he sees himself as the next Idris Elba but thankfully the rest of us see him as the acting fraud he is, he has no range it just one long blank stare and mumbled lines, another one who phones in his performance, I totally love the way in every scene featuring everyone mentioned above that it's the set that always gives 100% and an outstanding performance. Another one that needs to be killed off is Robyn, if I wanted to willingly listen a whingy self centred preganant bore then I have a cousin I could spend time with, not interested in it on Casualty. Sorry for the rant but I just had to get that off my chest. Last edited by james_lndsay : 06-12-2016 at 00:21. Reason: I know I'm dyslexic but my spellcher is abysmal |

Agreed, Dylan is the only great, interesting character on the entire show (well, for me anyway).
