I doubt that the storyline is over, but it wasn't mentioned at all in this episode. Tess wasn't in it at all. Fletch was, but only in quite a minor capacity. The episode mainly focussed on Dixie, Jeff, Rita and Big Mac.

Why are there so few comments this week? This seems quite unusual.

They all forgot to subscribe to the new thread.

Not that i'm complaining, it's nice to have a week off from all the Tess/Fletch chat

Ah, I see.

I'm a bit tired of it as well, but there wasn't any of that storyline this week, so we can talk a bit more about the rest of it. What did you think of Rita's relationship with the paramedics in this episode?

Don't like her. She seems pretty capable and good at her job but her manner just rubs me up the wrong way. Good that she's gained more respect for the paramedics though.

Really? I find that interesting, because I really like Rita's manner. She's a lot tougher than the likes of Jamie and Robyn, but she also has a polite manner and is more endearing than someone like Lily (who to be fair, I also really like, but I don't think her manner is as well-rounded as Rita's.) You need to have a balance between being tough and being soft, because being too far either way can be a disaster. Rita makes me think of a young Tess. Why don't you like her?

Also, do you think she lacked respect for the paramedics before? That had never really occurred to me, but I suppose I may have missed something.

She comes across to me as someone that thinks they're cooler than everyone else. She is more experienced than Jamie and Robyn who hopefully will toughen up as time goes on.

Lily lacks compassion and tact. She seems the sort that would cut her own arm off and not flinch because it was the right thing to do in the situation.

I didn't mean Rita lacked respect for them, just that she gained more respect for them by struggling to get through a tough day when it's what they have to do all the time.

What has she said that has given you that impression? (And sorry if I'm coming across as confrontational - I hope I'm not, I just find it interesting because I've seen something completely different in Rita.)

I like Lily because I don't think she would tolerate any of the silly rubbish that sometimes goes on in the ED, with people letting their personal lives get in the way of work and focussing on 'the end justifies the means' instead of 'this is what needs to be done'. This happens quite a lot, and it annoys me when it does, and so far it doesn't seem like it could happen with Lily. But having said that, she does appear to lack compassion, which is something that needs to be worked on. If she could improve her bedside manner, whilst not losing her forthrightness, she could develop into a really fantastic doctor.

It was her attitude in the first episode when she was dealing with the collapsed floor. maybe she came across as ok to some but to me it just seemed a bit of a know it all and aren't I fantastic. Admittedly she hasn't been as bad since and it may just have been a ramping up of her personality as an introduction but she still comes across that way to me most weeks.

I'm sure there will be an episode where Lily will do the right thing and be the doctor that they need in a given situation. She was almost there with the girl that had cancer, nicked the Saab and caused the bus crash but she was an adolescent ignoramus that likes rudeness. On that note, why was she not prosecuted for nicking the car and or driving with a medical condition?

I liked Rita in this episode.

Jeff pissed me off. He is so judgmental and didnt gave Rita a chance at all. It was Rita's first time riding with the paramedics and he was just so judgmental about her. He was the same with Ian when he started.

Do you mean, the fact that she stayed to help her neighbour instead of going into work, and then not showing any modesty about that? I'm pretty sure that nurses have a duty to stay and help in that situation.

I agree! Jeff is really unpleasant to new people working with the paramedics, and has been since he joined. Snezana, Curtis, Tamzin, Omar, Ian and now Rita have all been treated like that... the only one who he liked from the off was Polly, probably just because she had such an infectious personality. I don't like Jeff very much.

I'd love to know Ritas story.. That's the second time she's mentioned a 'husband' but first time saying she was too good for him...

No I agree, the only person that seems to understand him is Dixie..

I find it interesting... I like it that we're not finding out too quickly. She is apparently on her own now, as there was no sign of anyone else when we saw her in the flat in the first episode. (What are the odds that her next husband will turn up either as a patient or as a new character sometimes soon though?)

Interestingly, her character history seems to be quite similar to that of Kelly, the character who Chloe Howman used to play on Holby Blue. Kelly had a husband and a few kids, but it was revealed to the viewer that her husband was cheating on her. She found out in the last episode, but it wasn't revealed whether or not she left him - however, she did have a moment with her partner in the force, played by Jimmy Akingbola. Seems as though her future may have been quite similar to Rita's... (I loved that show! It's such a shame it didn't take off, it was actually my favourite of the Holby trio).

I tend to keep my views about Tess and Fletch reserved for the appreciation thread now. I kind of got the impression people were getting tired of it on here.

I dont know any off them paramedics, only just started watching, but if that is the case that is pretty crap of him. At least the fat lesbian gave Rita a chance.

I find Rita patronising. I understand she's good at her job, but her tone grates on me.

Well, he joined in 2007 (Dixie was already there) and I think he got on well with all of the original crew that he worked with, but since then he has fallen out with anyone new that they have had, apart from Polly and I think Josh.
