I agree that the plant appears to be a tomato - you can see a small truss of flowers on the top of it, and the leaves are the same as the ones that are dying in my garden.

Personally, I find it quite troubling that some people still have this attitude about mental health. Gemma is clearly not well mentally.

It does appear that Gemma has some kind of personality disorder. Whatever it is she is supposed to have appears to be a rather rare condition. The OCD storyline is a much better representation of typical mental health disorder.

I'm really enjoying Gemma's storyline at the moment. I think they have built up her character well over the past few months. For me everything that she has done in the past week has been completely believable, given her past actions. I can now see why they brought Andrew back just for him to leave again. It didn't seem necessary to have him in the Deri-losing-money plot but I think it was a necessary part of Gemma's decline to have her father leave her again.
Whilst the OCD storyline is good Iolo's actions don't significantly affect anyone but himself, which I think makes it a less interesting storyline than Gemma's. I just hope that when the truth comes out someone recognises that she needs help and she isn't hounded out of the village like Max was. |

I think it's somewhat jumping the gun to say Iolo's OCD plot is better than Gemma's, when we don't specifically know what's wrong with Gemma yet.
This condition is more dramatic and much more rare. I like Iolo storyline better because it is much more typical and subtle and I think truer to most people's experience. People tend to see people with mental health problems as doing outrageous things and being dangerous, so to me this is rather cliché portrayal. |

The difference between Iolo and Gemma is that Iolo is trying to get better and is seeing a counselor.... even forgoing his principles on seeing a private counsellor because he wants to get well.
Gemma uses her condition to get what she wants. A few weeks ago she pretended to sleepwalk so she could get Mark to feel sorry for her. I don`t think Gemma has seen a counselor. She doesn`t know there is anything wrong with her. And if Citadel hadn`t posted her symptoms the other day I don`t think I would have known she has a disorder either. I find it incredibly difficult to feel sorry for Gemma though, but I do with Iolo. I still want to find out if she had anything to do with that teen who mugged Mark and got himself killed. I don`t suppose we will ever know now that he is dead unless Gemma herself confesses she paid him to mug Mark. |

I can see why people might enjoy Gemma's storyline more because it is very extreme affecting many people causing them considerable pain and involves criminal acts. I don't think it that is any way typical of a mental health disorder, which mainly effects the sufferer. The family has to watch their loved one suffer and that is the main way mental health problems effect others.

Well without getting too technical there is a difference between Gemma and Iolo in type of mental illness they have. Iolo's OCD is a neurotic illness and people with those kinds of problems know there is something wrong with them and their thinking. That generally causes them a lot of distress. If anything they tend to blame themselves for their problems too much.
Gemma appears to have a personality disorder. People with personality disorders are often unaware that there is anything wrong with their thinking. They tend to blame other people for their problems. They see the world as being wrong rather than themselves. The other thing is Gemma is not delusional. She may feel compelled to engage in attention seeking behaviors but she knows she is lying. What Iolo has is a very common condition, anxiety disorders are the most common type of mental illness. About 10% of the population has some kind of anxiety disorder. A more extreme personality disorder is much more rare about 1% of the population would have that kind of illness. |

Spoiler
I wish I had watched PYC when Ffions sister (I forget her name Nesta?) had a huge mental health storyline which won many awards. I starting watching PYC after that when Hywel and Ffion were looking after Hywels daughter which turned out to be Cai`s. I was hoping that would have been one of the episodes shown in the 40th anniversary considering how it won many awards. |

They still think that tomato plant is marijuana. LOL Is it actually supposed to be cannabis? I know they have no money but how expensive could a fake cannabis plant be? Many viewers I am sure spotted that tomato plant right away.
Sion White you sly dog, this storyline about Y Deri is getting interesting now. |

Sion White you sly dog, this storyline about Y Deri is getting interesting now. So I'm loving having Kath back, but the situation means she's not able to fully be her old, brash, funny self. The best she's been in the last two eps is that short scene with Megan where she had a go about judging the Joneses. Unfortunately, as she's mourning I don't think her return is the amazing landmark it should have been. Hopefully things will pick up once Mark gets back and all 3 Joneses (RIP Dyff) are together. |

I reckon it's a tomato plant Ricky was growing for a school project or something. Yet another "unexpected" twist in this whole 40th Anniversary saga...

Monday in classic PYC episodes was the first time I saw Dyff, but have been watching Rownd a Rownd since January this year. |

Gemma's days must be numbered. I just wish the same could be said for Dai and Sion, the Dai character cannot play any pathos whatsoever.....although Sion is horrid he plays it well.
Just cannot quite believe that Mike has cancer........so so sad.......did Anita say he had 9 months to live !!! I am distraught |

Why have they rushed Meic's death storyline? It all seems very rushed and abrupt. And the Whites are staggeringly vile.

I think the actor who plays Meic wants to leave for personal reasons. It makes sense for him to leave during the 40th anniversary year. Its not as rushed as most exits on PYC he won't be gone until January.
I actually like the Whites owning Y Deri. I think that is the family which has had the largest storylines in the last few years. Many are not resolved. If Sion is at Y Deri instead of translating at Y Felin there is more of a chance of his hypocrisy getting exposed. With Garry marrying Dani the extended White/Monk/Thomas family will be huge with a lot of kids. Good potential for drama as they grow up. A chance of recasting Sion's other 2 sons at some point, maybe bringing in Gethin's son as well. I think that's a smart decision for the future. A community cooperative might be nice in real life, but I don't think it works on TV. There is already a cooperative running the former bank building and that storyline never went anywhere. I don't think PYC has been suffering lately because there haven't been enough nice and gentle storylines. |
