The last few days I have been watching the first series of “Parch”. I only started looking as Jason and DS Sophie Fielding from PyC were in it, and now I am addicted.

Series 2 is tonight, and I hope it is as compulsive viewing as the first one.

What is it about Welsh language dramas? Pobol y Cwm, Y Gwyll (Hinterland), Gwaith/Cartref - and now Parch! Just as well they have subtitles on iPlayer.

I love to see Sion back as John

I would love if PYC would just go ahead and recast one or both of Sion's other sons. Sion obviously needs some sort of help. Iolo is over his head and has done everything he can for Sion. I really don't think Gwyneth is the person to help. I don't think there is any reason any more for Macs and Huw to stay away.

I started watching this on the iPlayer recently as I'm in England and can't access S4C via the TV. I've got some questions...

What did Chester plead guilty to?
Why is Sion giving away all his stuff?
Why did Iolo and Tyler rush into getting married if it wasn't really what they wanted?
Why does Dol (I think?) sometimes speak in English and why do none of the other cast look surprised when she does?
Are there really courts in Wales where only Welsh is spoken?

That's it for now, but I'm sure I'll think of more later!

Not actually sure exactly what he pleaded guilty to myself, but he burned down the chapel Bethania a few months ago.
Sion seems to be having some kind of breakdown
I think they did want to get married, but the homophobic attack Iolo suffered and now the strife with his dad Sion has taken priority over the wedding
Dol is PYC's first Wenglish character. The show is actually aimed at those learning Welsh, and Dol is learning it herself. Either way, everyone understands her because basically all of Welsh people can speak English as well
Who knows? Not me!

Hope that was useful.

Am I the only one who REALLY enjoyed Sion's "other" life? I'd love to see a spinoff in that village with Jackie and the others. I was kinda gutted when he went back home to be honest.

And I also agree with the notion that Sion's Don's need to be brought back, whether they're recast or not, there's too much going on and it's too awkward that neither of them has come home yet. I wonder how their absence at Iolo's wedding will be explained? Surely Max would be his best man?

I'm only on Monday's episode but I also loved Sion's other life! It made a nice change.

We really do need a Macs return, even if it's a recast. I agree that he should have gone when he did (he was SO unlikeable, even more than he was generally supposed to be) but that was probably the way of the writers writing him out. There is so much the writers can do with him. He could become Tyler's friend as a fellow teacher (they'd look like twins!)

Yes, it was almost TOO good lol. I think it was an enjoyable relief because Pobol is a bit heavy going lately, and it's the same old cast all the time. It was great to see some new faces who were well written and acted.

Yes I enjoyed Sion's other life too. I think that was the old Sion as he was before Macs and Huw left. Which why I think that one or both of them need to come back. I just don't buy Sion being with someone like Gwyneth at all. That's not who Sion has been in the past.

Macs being gone made sense at the time, but even at the time it was a very open ended exit. A lot of Macs behavior clearly was attributed to never getting over what Scott did to him. Then it was made worse by that horrible Xmas episode that never had a follow up.

Now it makes no sense Mac has never come back. He lives in Cardiff. Iolo speaks to Macs and visits him so its hard to explain him being gone for his wedding. I mean Izzy's left, Scott's left, Jinx has left. Sioned is currently abusing her husband. Ed's done things in my opinion worse than Macs. Ffion is worried about Garry's mate Craig the murderer so she has bigger concerns than Macs. Sion's been convicted of a crime and sleeping with the woman who murdered his ex-wife's brother. These people no longer have a right to judge. Re-cast the role and if necessary give him a little bit of a personality transplant.

I completely agree. Macs would now not be the most horrible character! He never dealt with being raped so there is a lot more that could be done with that storyline too - this was evident with what he thought about getting (Hep C was it?)

As a new viewer, I was stunned at Mel's views. Does anyone her age still think homosexuality is a disease in the UK?

Unless there's a twist yet to come, it's a really stupid storyline and actually quite offensive and tacky.

There's more to Mel to come I feel...

Mind you I'm stuck on Zante with limitless WiFi but can't watch it on the BBC player.....

So 2 weeks and a Pobol marathon when I get back

It was Hep B less serious disease which most people's immune system takes care of. Its never been said but I'm not sure Sioned even still has the infection.

Do you think they're keeping her as a permanent cast member?
