This is pretty much it in a nutshell!
The sad thing is although child sexual abuse is a difficult issue it is a real life one. If a soap opera can't do a storyline like that which requires people to think and challenges them that's sad. It wasn't graphic at all just emotional.

Because the actor wanted to leave the show.
That`s not the impression I got. He was let go for 'explosive storylines' according to the PYC producer in this article.

There's nothing at all in that article that even implies he was let go as far as I can see. I also find it rather unlikely that a character who had been in a soap for 28 years, the longest-serving and arguably most well-known cast member.

You said, and I quote, 'He was let go for 'explosive storylines' according to the PYC producer in this article.' Now with the greateast respect, you have simply made that up.

Oh my word! I apologise unreservedly, wavlovr! Uch, I absolutely loathe soaps axing their longest-serving cast members.

You and me both Citadel...I hate well established soap axings too..... in all soaps. They take an episode or two of sensational storylines just for the sake of ratings. 'Denzil' hit me particularly hard because I really loved that character and he reminded me so much of my beloved late Grandfather.
No apology necessary.

I will say that the aftermath of Denzil's death with Sioned and Eileen was actually interesting, unlike the current Sioned Eileen storyline which is not. I don't want to see a character death but doing something to shake things up would not be objectionable.

That's the thing isn't it? Is too much or not enough worse? I would argue not enough is worse. And there is some deadwood in PYC. Mark, Ricky, Ed and Kevin The Rapist all need to go, and a fresh new family (with plenty of drama!) wouldn't go amiss either. And give poor old Colin a love interest!

Yeah I would say I have to agree with you Citadel. The current storylines might not offend any of the old viewers but they certainly won't bring in new ones. When was it the goal of soap to inoffensive? I think you could write a comedy program around life's more mundane issues but drama just doesn't work.

I don't mind if the mundanity/filler is the supporting act to some meatier stories at all, but the mandanity is dominant and that's wrong.

In the past the more mundane storylines were used as comic relief around some of more meaty storylines. That's good, but as you say the mundane has been dominating. It overly dramatic, its not good when you watch and say- that happened to me why are these people on t.v. crying over it.

If I was 14 and I muched off school like Courtney did, the mucher man would`ve been at our house within the hour and I would have been grounded for a week.
Looks like the school has similar rules and called home.

I`m wondering with Angela at the farm today that there could be something starting up with her and Eifion in the future. That will make Sioned so jealous.
win/win

I was just happy that tonight's had Angela talking about how Eifion was coping running the farm with the two babies. You definitely could not do that alone. How many people used to live at that farm a few years ago when Sioned was in school and Eileen owned it? There are only 2 now plus the babies.

See I am wondering if Eifion couldn't look to bring Scott back to help out on the farm. He doesn't know about Macs and he needs the help. Would be one way to shake stuff up.

A great theory sderr. But would Scott want to come back to Cwm Deri? He`d be too gutless to show his face.
Maybe that new homeless girl shown yesterday could help out.

I was wondering if Bean might become Gethin's love interest. That I would be interested in. I would be interested in Iolo in a relationship too. Those character's have interesting back stories and we haven't seen them in relationships since the tragic events of last year. Being in a new relationship and dealing with the events of the past year could be quite interesting.

But no more Eileen Sioned and the argument that will not die.

Don't really care if its entirely realistic at this point wavlovr, they need to do something to shake things up. Bringing back a character like that for a short run would give them a boost. They need a boost.

The Eileen/ Sioned argument suffers because it is too ordinary and realistic.

Megan was quite harsh with Bean yesterday wasn`t she. Automatically accusing her of being on drugs. Not all homeless people are drug users. I`m glad Gethin stuck up for her.
The Eileen/Sioned storyline suffers because it`s been done so many times already don`t you think?

Yes Sioned is a bit too old for the whole conflict with her mother storyline. Also in the past there was more too it, some really outrageous behavior from Sioned. Same type of storyline was done with Gaynor and Izzy too. Mothers and daughters argue and sometimes don't speak to each other for a bit don't they. Actually since Eileen/Sioned's relationship is dysfunctional on both sides I am quite sympathetic to them not speaking for a bit and the writers moving on.
