Gaynor seems to be going off her rocker.

I wonder if this isn't a cynical move to make further cuts. The audience for the omnibus is older, so I wonder if they will transfer their viewing online. That audience may not be very computer literate. So viewership will drop quite a lot once the omnibus is cut.

Then the current storylines don't really appeal to a younger audience so they won't pick up new ones. A few years ago the storylines with Macs, Izzy, Scott, Iolo, Sioned, Huw, Rhys and Lois would have appealed to a younger viewer. But of those characters only Sioned and Iolo are still regulars. Iolo they never use and Sioned is stuck in this dull storyline with her mother. Gemma they have stuck with Mark and that's just creepy. I can't see anything but continual viewer loss. Maybe that's what they want.

So the omnibus is being cut in September and the move to 4 days a week happens in January. So in the meantime they need new storylines. Ones that appeal to viewers under sixty and move at a faster pace.

Doing controversial real life storylines is obviously what brings attention and eyeballs. Someone should take notice of that.

I wonder by the time they reach January if there will be any show left to cut. I don't see viewers sticking with the current storylines. Yesterdays was quite laughable.

Yeah, I was quite baffled when they said they wanted to cut the PYC budget by a £1m. A MILLION pounds?! It's bloody threadbare as it is!

Obviously, we are not getting the full story here. There is politics behind this to be sure. The current storylines seem to reflect some kind of political decision making as well. The show is a shell of its former self.

I agree. There has to be cast cuts ahead as well. That's where they will also be looking to save money. This is only the start of change for the show behind the scenes and on camera.

Oh I am sure, I think it will be some of the younger characters that go. It seems like they have retooled for a much older audience lately. At least one older than me... and I am definitely not in the teen demographic any more either. So exactly who they are writing for I am not sure.

I disagree, I think they'll be doing a Denzil and cutting a few well-paid long-termers. If that means Mark, I'm fine with that! Also Gaynor and Hywel would not be missed. Well, Mo would miss Gaynor!

Kevin's on his way out clearly, maybe Meic with him. How many of the storylines focus on the younger cast. Since Christmas they have really focused on Eileen and her family. Seems to me that storyline is written to apeal to older women who have problems getting along with their young daughters. They have focused a little bit on the Whites, and not Iolo Sion and Britt.

If they can't pull in a younger audience, they can then claim there audience is aging and is unlikely to grow. That would be an excuse to ax the PYC all together, in favor of some special series in Welsh which would be shorter and presumablly cheaper. I know I am being cynical. I do think that is what is going on here.

Kevin could be on his way out, and Meic possibly goes back to North Wales. Which means Anita will probably stay now she`s involved with CwmFM. And if that`s the case then Jinx could be a casualty too. Jinx seems to have lost all interest with CwmFM since he got those anonymous letters. Hywel and Anita seems to have taken over Cwm FM

The thing is, usually when this happens (at least here in the States), the show dumps the vets and starts to go younger because they don't have to pay those actors as much. But this show doesn't really play the younger cast or have stories focused on them. I do think, though, we'll be seeing major cast changes though because of the money issues. It's unavoidable.

Yeah that is what happens in the states. However I have read that the average PYC viewer is 60 or older. A few years ago they were trying to bring in younger viewers, with the storylines you had on your Youtube channel. But lately the storylines seem deliberately stale and staid and I would say appealing to a mostly elderly audience. Very old fashioned for even me and I am pretty middle aged and unhip. My feeling is if the producers pander to a mostly elderly audience and then make an attempt to move the soap online they will lose a very large portion of the audience and then the decision to cut the soap entirely will become very easy for them. A bad move because its young adults that really need to be reached with Welsh language television.

The BBC has shown its lack of commitment to trying to serve a young adult audience by axing BBC 3, so we shouldn't surprised.

Gaynor is going nowhere. We can't afford to lose that kind of sex appeal. I still haven't got over that pie and chips.

My vote for characters to axe would be Kevin obviously and then Sion and Britt. I will never understand the writers decision in June to exit Macs the way they did and make Kevin a rapist. If they wanted to talk about rape I am sure they could have figured out a way to resolve the rape storyline they had with Macs which was actually good rather than make Kevin a rapist.

This storyline with Kevin is one of the most god awful contrived things I have ever seen. I have no idea why he suddenly wants to rape women. The sooner it is off my screen the better. Also, I am tired of watching Sion White walk around like half his brain was eaten by aliens. If they really can't resolve any of the storylines involving Macs can they please stop writing as if they have. Its annoying

I just had a thought. What if they`re waiting til the 40th anniversary in October to kill off some characters? An explosion in Y Deri or cafe perhaps?

I don't know an explosion is expensive. Normally I would critize a soap for getting rid veteran actors and replacing them with younger cheaper ones. But I have to say in this case that is exactly what should happen.

I am not saying write for the under 30 audience, but aiming for an average viewer age of between 35-50 would be a good goal. They need younger characters and they need the younger characters to interact with each other. Why does Iolo for instance spend all his time with Colin? They are pushing Gethin to hang out with Megan and Sion which doesn't make a lot of sense. No one likes Gemma and Mark.

Also let's not wait until October to make cast changes. Now would be fine with me.
