I don't know if he's homophobic or not, but based on what I see during the show I doubt it.

The BBC wouldn't allow him to be so blatant about it, especially as Craig and Bruno are far more open about being gay now than in the early series and flirt with the male celebs.

The old crotchy act is much more likely and if this is the case, clearly these days it is being misunderstood by many people (I'm old enough to remember it).

I have seen many thoughtlessly homophobic remarks from Bruce over many years , you could say he does not mean it and does not know that what he says is offensive , but they are and ignonorance is no defence in the face of homophobia.

He is too old to learn different behaviour it seems so off he goes so we can have a less offensive person who is not going to exhibit such nasty behaviour in future.

Whilst we are on the subject Len can join the club of nasty homophobic comments especially aimed at Craig , it is not funny and he should stop it right no before one or the other of them goes too far and a complaint is made that will have to be taken seriously .

In fairness they are on dicey ground with Ben his aim of his charity is to promote tolerance he won't be able to stand any comments that go further than this or he will loose respect from his charity and he cares so much about this, he simply can't tolerate it .

Of course, when you come to defend yourself and try to explain what you said, its context, its intent and its meaning they'll say "intent does not matter one jot".

And you'll be out of a job, or facing charges, or being treated like a pariah. Perhaps they'll even assign you for treatment to correct your perceived social defects.

Our social interactions have always, and always will be, defined by intent, context, meaning, empathy, sympathy, humour, etc etc.

But, increasingly, naive people seem intent on putting strict parameters on how we interact according to their own personal opinions/experiences.

If somebody is being deliberately or offensively homophobic, or racist, etc. I'll gladly call them on it. Gladly!!!

But it's really sad that some people are intent on removing all levels of context and understanding; seeking out offence; and desperately trying to increase the already depressing reasons for dispute exponentially.

Can't stand him on strictly it really hit home to me this week how much I can't stand him after being able to watch the show live the other week and actually listen to the celebs and judges without him getting in the blooming way, thank god for ffwd but would rather watch live and enjoy the experience more.

I used to agree with you when he was in series 4, when Ramps got entangled with Karen during Salsa. It was class act from Brucie. But for an octogenarian, seven years makes a huge difference, I'm afraid. I find him really grumpy now. If it's an act, it's NOT funny to me, just annoying and leave a bitter aftertaste for an entertainment family show on Saturday/Sunday.

So you didn't see Len's Lens tonight then where they showed Ben kissing Craig and Bruce rushing up to him, angry as usual, to make him go back to his place next to his partner. He must forget the camera will always show these things, and that there are many, many people in the audience who can see him and his, me, me, me act. He hates not being the centre of attention.

And the female audience don't know he's happily married with a family then?

And according to the VT, a cooking, doting perfect husband/dad material.

I see lots of nasty, nasty pieces at 'work' here tonight. Generally claiming they have particular insight into people before gratuitously assassinating them.

No insight on my part, of course I was and am merely expressing my opinion. A very strong, and perhaps very controversial opinion, but opinion nevertheless.

Again, that's part of his schtick. Jokingly trying to get people to stay at their cues and behave professionally. It's meant to be all part of the fun. Just because you don't find it amusing doesn't make it a crime. And he knows full well the camera is on him. Most people just take it at face value and don't apply the sort of scandalous weight to it that his critics do!

It's really disturbing, the vociferousness with which people will try to seek out a hidden meaning in what somebody says and persecute them because of it.

It's depressing to see that attempts to promote tolerance and equality have somehow brought witch hunts and lynch mobs back into fashion for some people.

I have no idea if Bruce is homophobic or if it's an act. Whatever his meaning behind the comments to Ben, it made for uncomfortable viewing when he shied away from being touched by him. Like a throwback to the 70s ..... which was Bruce's heyday.

As a matter of interest, where does everybody think this will end ? A man who has been in showbiz for 7 decades .... will he retire, get the push or go out with his boots on ?

I think in some perverse way BF would like to carry on until the end.

Bruce will take it as a point of honour to die performing like kind of spartan throwback with tap shoes for his shield. His fidgeting feet will make it very hard to keep the lid down on him when he goes.
