He behaved perfectly in the dance off. I suspect much of the bitching over Julien is homophobic. Shameful.
How ridiculous! There are just as many negative comments on these boards about straight contestants. I don't like the hairy biker bloke and I've said so elsewhere - but I don't think he's gay.

Some people seem to be absolutely obsessed with using the homophobic card at every given opportunity, whilst most of us don't even give it a second thought. I don't see those being negative about Vanessa Feltz being accused of being anti-semitic.

From Wiki

"Macdonald was also interested in a career as a dancer, but, instead, studied textiles at the Faculty of Arts and Architecture, Brighton, England.[5] He then became a student at the Royal College of Art, where he gained a Master's Degree."

Let's be thankful he chose the right path

Read what posters say about Julien and remarks about the kind of man he is. If that's not homophobic I don't know what is.

Yup that was me. Maybe it's a regional thing but I've always thought of blokes as being rough and ready sorts, not little and dainty as Julien is. Sorry, it's not homophobia, it's a difference in word usage obviously. So don't throw accusations around.please.
Where are you from? The 1940s lol. Is there only one representation of being a bloke that you feel able to cope with? Oh dear!

I honestly don't think you know what homophobia is then, have yet to see any FM bring Julien's sexuality into the reasons they don't like him. Some people don't like him because of his personality, not his sexuality - equally some will like him because of his personality, nothing to do with his sexuality. If you're correct, then where is the dislike of Robin, Julian Clarey, Ian Waite, Colin Jackson etc on these forums?

Leaving the ridiculous homophobic debate well alone - unbelievable! - I just wanted to say that I enjoyed Julien's dance. He clearly had worked hard at something he's not very good at and the result , in my eyes, was entertaining. Vanessa was really bad so Julien definitely deserved to stay. Still have to ff though when he's speaking!

Well said, the difference between him and those guys is that they are all likeable personalities.

Julien was much better in the dance off and therefore deserved to stay. I don't dislike him at all and don't really understand a lot of the venom directed at him.

If Julien had gone out last night instead of Vanessa it would have been a travesty.

He improved on his original dance in the dance-off. Vanessa did not.

I don't find him annoying, he's just different. He behaves differently and reacts differently than most ( his failure to console Tony Jacklyn being a case in point. Very unlikely it was wilfully rude, it probably just didn't occur to him to do so )
Besides, we all knew he was OTT from seeing him on It Takes Two last year.
Quelle Surprise!

I am going to defend myself again, though why I do not know as you seem to take great delight in insulting posters on this board to prove your pathetic attempts at trying to stir up controversy. As far as I can see you have no right to insult me by suggesting my choice of words to describe the males of the species as outdated.
I am not and never have been homophobic, which actually means a fear of homosexuality, neither would I ever criticise or judge other people's sexuality. Just stop flogging a dead horse about an innocent remark, grow up.

You are threading on dangerous ground now .When you get personal about posters it look very bad for you . Can you not simply express an opinion while respecting that others have theirs .?
and I agree with this poster too

Why do people not like Julien. He is awesome and I loved him on It Takes Two talking about ruffles, crystals and godees . I don't think he will last much longer though

Glad there's so much agreement amongst those who dislike Julien! I'm sure he'll be pleased to be spreading the love. Loving the faux indignation, too. What next - some of my best friends are gay lol

Get real. Walter invited me to speculate. I did just that without being in any way offensive. I thought he took my comment in his stride without the need for faux outrage.

I think Julien has quietened down this week and is all the better for it - he certainly was a better dancer this week in the dance off.

I find OTT people very annoying - and before anyone gets going about this it is a purely personal thing - so did not enjoy his approach in the first week, but I think he is genuinely excited about being on SCD and I can appreciate that, but I hope he continues to tone it down a bit.

I certainly did, but for some odd reason both of our messages have been removed. I can't imagine why, I certainly wasn't offended.

You see this is where it gets complicated. I have no problem with Julien being on Strictly and behaving how he wants to behave. However, as a bloke, I would probably find it slightly(passively) awkward being in the company of a man who gushes on in an animated perhaps camp fashion about ruffles crystals and godees (no idea what a godee is?). I think many men would have the same feeling. However I wouldn't personally call that awkwardness homophobia or dislike.

I suspect that Strictlys considerable elderly audience find him too OTT to actually warm to him and I reckon he will probably find himself in another dance off next week unless he can up his performance so the judges give him higher marks.

By the same token, that sizeable elderly audience embraced Julian Clary, not long after he was in serious bother about some unscripted remarks on live TV. So he was regarded as a risk to cast! As it was, he proved himself willing to give it his best shot and was always amusing in a low key way.

Don't play the homophobia card, it's insulting. Julien is an annoying person, his sexuality has nothing to do with it

He is a terrible dancer and will be gone soon, don't worry about it

Julian Clary was hilarious, I forget his exact answer to Craig when he criticised him, but it was something like, "Oh shut you silly old queen."

Yes that was it. His weekly confrontations with Craig was a treat.

I think that any self respecting gay would feel the same. As I mentioned on another thread, he is like a grotesque caricature of what the average straight felt that was how gay's behaved.
All the gay people (men & women) I know agree with you completely.

A lot of them can, and will, act camp when appropriate, but they also know there are times when it isn't appropriate. I'm not even convinced Julien's campness is totally genuine; to me it seems like an act. I might be wrong.

To give the guy some credit though, he behaved a lot better this week - far less 'shouty' etc., and his dancing had definitely improved.

Vanessa showed no improvement and the judges were right to give her the boot, although I much rather have seen Dave go.

Then dont play the homophia card where none exists and make up accusations against poster .
