Yes standing there motionless with no performance or backing dancers was a valiant attempt to show off her mediocre vocals, but it was also boring and rightly landed her in the bottom two. I always thought Shelly had joke act potential and was thoroughly disappointed with this offering.

I felt there was a big lack of entertainment on the show as a whole and found it rather boring. There is an opportunity for a good joke act to provide some entertainment and last for a good few weeks. Contrary to most of the contestants this year she has a personality, which combined with some big productions and ditching the dressed like a granny dragged through a hedge backwards look has potential to be entertaining.

She needs to become the female Wagner. That is her only chance to survive next week.

This will happen starting next week. Frankie did the same thing after he has in the bottom 2. I can see Shelly doing the same it would really work in her favor.

The show needs to move on from joke acts now ratings will just continue to go down.

Joke acts (and great singers) are the reason for ratings. Jedward, Wagner, Rylan, Maloney all had lots of newspaper coverage. What do the press have to talk about this year?

This show was one of the most boring ever. I guarantee lower viewing figures next week.

I can really imagine Shelly singing We Can't Stop wearing the Miley Cyrus VMA outfit and twerking against Louis.

Didn't she say she had something more "fun" planned for next week? Honestly, I feel like embracing her joke status is the only way she can survive in the competition.

its her attitude is the problem.
Confidence they need to sing live on such a big show.
but she carries an Air of arrogance like all this should have happened years ago for her.
there's no humility

She's a better and more reliable vocalist than some that are left in the competition.

I did think she was way ahead of Lorna last night.
Lorna's pitching was way off, in places and particularly on her last note.

However, I thought she was much more on the money tonight and deserved to stay.

I wouldn't've had Shelley in the bottom 2 in the first place..

For me, it was a no brainer...

Lorna
Miss Dynamix.

But, "the public gets what the public wants," or so they'll have us believe.

Rich.

In fairness, Shelley has fantastic vocals. She completely out sang Lorna in the sing off. To call her a "joke act" is way too insulting - I think that term can only be applied to those who had poor voices and just relied on their "entertainment" factor. What I think Shelley can do though is take on the mantel of the big piece entertainer AND couple that with her great vocals. That could keep her around for a good few weeks. I don't think she'll win though - good though her voice is, she doesn't have the image to be a commercial success.

I have never liked Shelley but why should she become the joke act when she can actually sing. Shelley is far superior vocally to some of the finalists Imo. She sang a very difficult song tonight very well while Lorna was pitchy and lacks control. The right person went.

To be completely fair Johnny Robinson (2011) was also a good singer yet at the same time was the joke act of the competition. Being able to sing well has nothing to do with whether someone can be a joke act or not - it's just that not being able to sing well reinforces the 'joke' status of acts (Jedward, Wagner and Rylan are textbook examples of this).

Quite, exactly what are people listening to when they cart out this "pub singer," mantra..

I'll bet there're thousands of pub singers out there who'd kill for a voice like that..you don't get to hear that in pubs very often, believe me..

I think, as so often happens with these things that people are voting with their eyes rather than their ears and don't like what they see..

Or maybe they don't like her personality..but there's very little wrong with the voice..

Her performance of "Alone," may've been "cheesy," in some people's eyes, but no more so than many other performances on the night.
But, it was bang on the money vocally.

Rich.

She can certainly sing, but she needs to stop the ridiculous suggestive gyrating and the gurning. It detracts from her performance, and I suspect, puts people off voting for her.

Her being labeled a "joke act" hasn't much to do with vocals, just the overall "package" she presents as a contestant.

It doesn't really matter what Shelly does, she'll probably lose the flash vote every week until the judges get rid of her

If that what people mean when they say "pub singer," I can see the point, to a certain extent it's the sort of thing you might see out and about on a Friday or Saturday night from a pretty wild hen party!

However, I'd be willing to bet that, if she were to stand still, they'd be bitching about that too, in a few weeks.

Isn't Sharon essentially fulfilling the role of joke act this year?

That's what the judges always do

Say that Act X does something every week while singing the judges will pick them up on BUT the moment they stop doing it the same judges will complain that they've stopped

That, and every other year she's been involved.

I still think they should have put the yodeller through as a joke act.

He was probably expecting the judges to do just that

Do we really need a joke act to discredit the show again? 2008 was the best year ever in my opinion and there was not a joke act in sight!

Did you see they completely stripped her off her personality- makeup, clothes, her toned down performance...thats not the real her, those where the things that made her a less serious contender...more of a joke act, not her voice. Her grinding and cackles during judges houses where embarrassing but amusing- she wasnt to be taken seriously. So if she's not being herself whats the point.
