This is the bit I don't understand, I get that it's recorded on Saturday for broadcast on Sunday but.. the lines open when the live show finishes, and by the time they record the results show everyone has voted, the votes have been counted, added to the judges scores and on a card for Tess to read out, doesn't leave a lot of time for voting or the audience would be there all night!”

Have you actually ever seen the show? If you have then you know exactly how long the lines are open for! The first week was about 20 mins, and a bit longer last week. So no it's not very long.

surprisngly some people DONT realise its filmed on the same night - I have had many a conversation with people that start "oh, so its not filmed on the sunday then?"

its common knowledge on this forum (and many others) that its the results show is filmed on a saturday night after the live show but if people dont come online its totally plausable that they wouldnt realise

I don't think anyone says it is filmed on Sunday. And we all know we can get the result if we dig deep enough in these very forums on Saturday night.

However, the "we" must constitute an extremely small number of people when compared with the 9 million or so who watch.

Even if the whole membership of DS were to be Strictly fans (all 536,000 or so, including inactive or resting users who rarely visit, if at all), then that figure is dwarfed by the total number of SCD Results Show viewers.

Problem is then how do you describe something that as far as the Sunday viewer is concerned DID happen "last night" or "yesterday". Referring to "this is what happened earlier" makes no sense either, unless of course the only people watching the Sunday show have only just watched the live show on iPlayer.

Unless of course they insist on using the term "this is what happened in the live show 1st broadcast on Saturday (date) at (time)" for every single part of the results show.

Can you imagine the Daily Mail headlines if they actually DID get everyone back on a Sunday !!!

BBC Strictly money waste shocker!!!

We just get .....BBC liars - Strictly is not "Live" on Sundays.

If people really are bothered about it for whatever reason, then complain to the bbc. IF they got enough complaints in proportion to the amount of viewers that watch the show, then they would make changes. I would imagine though that the reality is that most viewers don't care that it's pre-recorded, or that they refer to 'last night'.

The other big point, is that The X Factor, is live on Sunday, so if they can do it, why can't Strictly?!

The X Factor is paid for out of advertising revenue. Strictly is paid for by us out of the license fee.

Would you rather have the few decent programmes the BBC produces or go without them and pay for the studio costs, the personnel costs, have a new audience brought in, have all the celebs and dancers dressed and made up for a second night just for a programme of about 40 minutes?

I know which I choose.

I also know people who were very surprised to discover the results show was actually recorded on the Saturday night....The press have a Gentlemans/womans agreement not to hint or speculate as to who was given their marching orders...ie they don`t spoil the results show for the 99.99% of viewers who are unaware of the result.

They do not say it's live, they do not say it's pre-recorded. I think musical performances might be pre-recorded even before the main show. Putting it all together might be a logistic nightmare for a live show. So they get all the material recorded on Saturday and have enough time to assemble it together for Sunday without any pressure.

Why is it so hard for people to grasp the the need for different language use to fit broadcast times? Blimey even the Queens Christmas message is recorded a few days before and Hootenany is recorded in the summer.”

And I bet the Great British Bake Off has already baked its final bun !!!

I'm sure it's been said in this thread, but if not...Len and Bruno are not around on Sunday, they are already on the plane to LA.

And Colin's showdance didn't lose him the competition.

They do kinda imply it's live. Particularly with the changing of frocks etc. Personally I would prefer if they went back to the way they did it during the first few series, which was to broadcast the results show later on the same evening. It made it feel more immediate and exciting.

I don't know why people are jumping on the OP. She just asked for views on something that people do comment on. It was pretty clear from the title what the thread was about so if you fnd the topic boring or oft repeated just 'don't open the thread'. It's not compulsory, you know. People who open a thread simply for the pleasure of saying 'oh this debate is sooo beneath me :yawn: Oh, who cares?? etc really need to find a hobby.

No sorry it wasn't particularly at you. The first part of my post was answering your's. The second part was just a general view on some of the answers on this thread.

Apologies for any confusion.

I realise it's a bit of a non-issue, really, but I can understand the irritation that people feel when the Beeb do their level best to give the impression that the results show takes place long after the live show - Tess and Darcy changing clothes (not sure about the men) is purely to keep up that pretence. They film the guest singer's slot before they start Saturday's live show, so Darcy has to wear her Sunday best for that, and then nip off to change into her Saturday frock, before changing back again. Dizzy yet?

I was lucky enough to be in the studio for last year's Halloween show and this is what I wrote at the time on the subject of maintaining the fiction that they are different shows:

"We went back into the studio in readiness for the filming of the results show. A few people who had come in silly costumes were quietly removed from the audience and possibly liquidated painlessly in the green room to improve the gene pool, and their places taken by normal people. We were also told by a member of staff that some people left at this point because they didn’t want to spoil the surprise of the Sunday show by finding out who was eliminated. I was staggered. I can understand not wanting to see a SPOILER before the show, but not wanting to see the SHOW before the show just... does not compute. Some more people were drafted in at this point to fill the empty chairs. WTF? Are these the people on standby who were too far back in the queue to join the proper audience but who have been sitting in the canteen for the last four hours waiting for this moment? Are they people pulled in off the street? BBC staff? I think we should be told."

This made me laugh but honestly how utterly ridiculous and pointless it all is, changing dresses and what not to keep up the illusion

Btw did you ever find out what happened to the people who were removed?

But that is how TV programmes are made. There have been posts on DS regarding the filming of things like Countdown where they swap the audience around between each shoot, and where the presenters change clothes as well.

This is the magic of television.

And if they didn't change, then regardless of what announcement was made, there would be some who would remark upon the fact that Tess was wearing the same dress etc etc.

Let's face it, TV is an illusion in your living room. And having been to a live transmission of a TV programme (OTT at the then Central TV Studios back in January 1982), I can say that what you see on the TV screen is very different from what you see in the studio as a member of the audience.
