How would you defeat the GI ?

He has been a big threat last christmas, in bosj and in the S7 finale. For whatever reason he hated 11 and wanted revenge on him. He knew 11 was alive despite all the recors being deleted. He is a powerfull enemy.Causing whatever is going to happen in the 50th.How can you kill information ?. He has no physical body so that causes a problem.Think 12 will need to deal with him at some point. Unless he appears in the 50th or christmas maybe. Would it be really that unlikely he somehow is connected with the silence and madame kovarian?. Maybe he is the one who tells them 11 is still alive and sends tehm after him. Clara would alos be in his sights. She leapt in the time stream and ruined all his plans. Doubt he would let that go. REG is a great actor so would like to see him again.

He died completely when he entered The Doctors timeline

Something that destroys intelligence?

Make it watch an episode of Big Brother.

First point, the Great Intelligence was in the Abominable Snowman and the Web of Fear as well as the three episodes you mention.

Second the GI hates the doctor whatever incarnation not just 11. The GI wasn't friends with the 2nd doctor.

Nobody knows if he causes what happens in the 50th. I would say it is extremely unlikely.

The GI will never be killed off. I bet the GI will return in the future.

Pee all over it like Moffats done. Its not the Great Intelligence. Its crap alien number 253 with an old series name slapped on.

The GI might have a shadow and The Doctor could find a way to see it, so he could make a special hat or make a fancy machine.

It did cross my mind that these encounters with the GI could have been after it stepped into the Doctor's timeline. Similarly it could still turn up in episodes we have yet to see in this method. So just because it's dead does mean the doc is safe from it.

Can anyone remember if on meeting 11 there was any evidence of it knowing the Doctor already?

I would...

Spoiler
Flip the wires on a mind-transference machine, allowing the Doctor to absorb it. You know, unless a bunch of companions and soldiers ruin everything.

I'd combat GI foam using Gaviscon.

Depends who's writing it. If it's Moffat, I'd defeat the Great Intelligence with a shouty speech about how cool I am - and using the power of love.

Or maybe a prop which serves as a flimsy metaphor for the power of love. And of course, the shouty speech about how fabulous I am.

If I was Mark Gatiss on the other hand, I'd first subvert any degree of malevolence the the Great Intelligence has - before shouting 'You're sh!t!' and throwing a Jammy Dodger at it.

Whereas, if I was Russell T Davies, I'd get John Barrowman to prance about mugging the camera for an hour before the companion pushes a button and foils the Great Intelligence via the power of being uniquely tremendous. Meanwhile, a Hairdoo calling itself 'The Doctor' remarks how tremendous the companion is. You can't hear it though as there's a choir downing him out.

I'll play!

If I were John Nathan Turner I'd blind it with an incredibly brightly lit 30m by 20m section of corridor, which I'd show it from a variety of different angles.

If I were Barry Letts I'd engage it in a car chase, then finish it off with some kung fu and an army shoot out.

(I know they're producers, not writers, but the creative figurehead role has shifted)

OK, I'll admit that I found that quite funny

Writers, stop defeating things with "love", you're turning Doctor Who into the sodding care bears.

Yes, it occurred to me while watching that it would have saved the Doctor a lot of trouble in the future

(tougue firmly in cheek) I would defeat the GI by making him sit there and watch the Bruce Willis film "Hudson Hawk" (which features REG) and tell the GI if he doesnt pack it in I wont let him watch "Withnall and I"

Another suggestion is to get a Librarian to sort out the GI, maybe The Doctor has one in the Tardis library.

The Librarian- Someone told me you had a little problem.
The Doctor- It's ok, I can sort this out, no need for your help, you have books to rearrange.
The Librarian- I insist.

My only comment on this (and sorry for the ever-so-slight bump) is that I really wish that River had been the one to enter the Doctor's time stream.

If things had all been written slightly differently, I would have loved to have seen this be River's biggest and final secret. It would have neatly explained how she knew so many Doctor's without actually having to feature Kingston alongside future Doctor's.

And I think having River be the one to save the Doctor over and over again would make a bigger statement about their relationship. Jenna acted her socks off in the Series 7 finale, but character-wise I couldn't believe that such a big impression had been made between The Doctor and Clara.

The Great Intelligence can only be defeated by an Even Greater Intelligence. So obviously The Doctor must build a giant pulsating glowing throbbing brain ...... or just take his tardis to nearest planet that sells them which would be easier .......
