My names is James Bacon, ‘So what’ some of you might say. With a name like Bacon the daft thing about it is that I’m vegetarian. Sounds like a contradiction doesn’t it. Non vegetarians do not offend me. Neither does seeing meat on a counter or plate ready to eat. Afterall everyone to their own. I was offered recently some vouchers in the Co-op as I had spent an ex amount of money so they could be only purchased on meat. I politely refused the offer explaining my vegetarianism, much to the embarrassment of the till lady, and a snigger from someone in the queue. So as you can see I do not take offense at meat as some mistakenly think vegetarians do. With horror stories of meat recently reported, I am so glad I turned vege some 12 months ago. Its been the biggest turning point in my life. I’ve never felt better. It has changed my whole life. I’m less stressed and able to think in a more positive way. I could talk for hours of vegetarianism and the benefits it has for health and finance and a way of life - and good for the envirpnment. I could never go back to eating meat. If you are considering on becoming a vege I would certainly recommend it. But I would advise on seeing a doctor first if you have health problems and then slowly cut out meat and not rush into it without good reason for doing so.

Conversely I was a vegetarian for 23 years and about 18 months ago started eating meat again. It's great, I've never felt healthier and I love not having to restrict myself when I eat out or indeed with the variety of meals I can cook. I can highly recommend it

Do you have family members or friends who could have benefitted from the vouchers?

Benefits on finance? as a vegan for just over 2 years, I've found my weekly shopping has vastly increased in price - owing largely to people adding a premium just because it's got the word "vegan" on the package !

Hi! Like brb above I can only say that veggie food is vastly overpriced. My daughter is a manager for Tesco and in one shop she said ( while training) there was one manager who reduced the veggie selection to one cupboard and one frozen section below it - according to him we were not worth anymore space! My daughter is veggie too but in those days didn't want to push her luck by disagreeing. ( she should have in an informative manner IMO.) Still this 'Extra' Tesco barely allows enough space or just fills the space with Quorn mince - because that's all we need unless we want to pay double for the same items in the one, tiny section of chilled veggie food/Quorn.

While Tesco do supply their own limited selection it's much of the same IMO.

Morrison's is good & they nearly always have great offers for veggies be it from Quorn, their own make or different companies.

Sainsburys' is good too but I don't go there often as I find it expensive. We don't have a Waitrose around here.
Then I do have to remind myself of what is available when we go to our home in Turkey - nothing like Quorn, a substandard, overpriced soya! Even their fat free is usually only half fat for us. So, we are lucky in one respect.

So brb, you say you are vegan. Do you mean you are a vegan or vegetarian because we know there is a difference. Can you tell me what vegans eat because I have always been interested in veganism. Thanks.

What do you buy that says "vegan" on the package?
I am veggie and only buy fresh food - nothing processed that says veggie or vegan on it any my shopping bill has gone down since not buying meat etc.

I'm vegan - I don't eat anything which comes from an animal, including honey etc. I hate this question so much - because the short answer is that I eat what you eat, just without the animal products, using vegan replacements.

Any vegan foods - whether they be meat substitutes, cheese substitutes. Everything has a premium if it's vegan pretty much.

The solution is to cook more and use less prepared foods then eating vegan is cheaper - at least if you want to eat well. It is the vegan convenience foods that are more expensive than the omni convenience foods but the basic ingredients are cheaper.

I've never tried it. Being a meat eater i've never really needed to. I see the adverts these days are going for the healthy alternative to mince. I'm not too bothered about that either
