This is more of an "out of interest" than an issue, but I've noticed that HD Voice is not possible when connected to Three's Home Signal. Does anyone know why this is?

That's correct it doesn't support HD Voice which is a shame. Not sure why. Still at least even without HD Voice its better than most networks.

Is it something that could potentially change with a software update I wonder, or is it a hardware limitation?

Must be a hardware limitation.

I unplugged my Home Signal box last night to test out if I could make an HD voice call and it works. Call quality was crystal clear and very like Viber. I wish 3 would support HD voice in their Home Signal box.

It's a shame. Perhaps the signal in my area will be good enough one day that I won't need the Home Signal!

Well my signal does appear to have improved recently but it could also be down to my new phone-the Sony Xperia Z Ultra. It really hangs on to a signal very well indeed.

I may unplug mine in that case and see if there's been an improvement.

Not at all! I'm using an iPhone 5s and my wife an iPhone 5. Without the Home Signal we could only just about get one bar of signal, often none at all, even outdoors!

Ah they are both very good handsets and should have decent antennas in both of them so you must have quite a bad signal in your area.

It's very bad, but in fairness it is on all networks with the exception of O2, which has decent 2G coverage only.

Yes and it's very noticeable. So clear and so much detail!

Yes indeed it is crystal clear. So much so that I will be disconnecting my home signal box for any long calls I have to make when I know the other party is on the 3 network, I think I will give 3 a call regarding this issue as there must surely be a newer home signal box coming out that will support HD voice. I will of course post back with any information I obtain.

Isn't the current Black Home Signal quite new? That's the one I have. Let me know if you're able to find anything out!

What's the point in having the box if you can disconnect it and still make perfectly good calls 1 bar of signal is as good as 5 for calls and at home you surely have wifi for data.

My signal improvement at home has been a very recent development Thine Wonk and I only discovered it once I disconnected the Home Signal box the other day.

Ahhh ok, but in that case you don't need a replacement signal box then?

I just get confused as I see people wanting signal boxes because they only get 1 or 2 bars of signal, but that is how GSM is meant to work, it's digital and those further away from the cell will get a weaker signal. It is still normally just fine for calls though and there's no reason to use the network for data if people have wifi at home.

I agree. If I got a reliable 1 or 2 bars I'd prefer not to have a Home Signal, but the fact of the matter is I don't.

Ah, sometimes weak signal areas fluctuate more with load on the network, so that's understandable. It might have improved if they added a former Orange cell to MBNL further away that made your cell a little bit less busy.

I hope 4G will relieve some pressure from the 3G network and that should also help. Those signal boxes are nice though.

In the next few months Three are bringing out an iPhone and Android app that allows mobile calls over wifi that come out of your allowance, come from your number and accept incoming calls and texts. Virgin Mobile and O2 already both have one of these.

I've never experienced a HD voice call via EE's Signal Box... maybe there are settings that need activated or the box needs reset if it supports it (no idea if the Three one does as i've never seen the old one)
