Eastenders: The writers/storyline producer/storyliners
Hey I know that people blame the Writers of Eastenders but I don't think it is the writers faults at all I think its because of the storyline producer and the storyliners. The writers can only work with what they are given. And also I want to know which writers does everyone think are good? In 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 when there was a storyline the writing is good but when there is no storyline the writing is not so good but the writers don't decide what storylines are happening and what an exit is like its the storyline team and the story producer who decide that.

I agree. It's not the writers fault, at least not solely.
They are given an episode outline and have to turn that in the script. Therefore if one reads "The mystery of Kat's shagger continues", they have to run with that. Tonight for example - the script was terrible and of course it could have been better but its not the writer who came up with teen vic or Jack's exit. What actually transpires on screen is out of thier hands. ETA - I will say that a good writer will make the best out of a bad outline though. When I look at Rob Gittins - one of thier longest running scriptwriters, he very rarely produces a good episode, regardless of the material. However yes, what actually happens on screen isnt decided by the writers and this is something that not everyone is aware of. |

Its not the writers fault they don't decide what storylines happen and if an exit will be good or bad. Well I thought the writing was amazing during Stax reveal episode and the Whitney and Tony reveal episode and the Lucas storyline and the episode when Stacey was sectioned

Okay, I know what you mean. The writers were quite good in 2008 2009 2010 2011 2012 and 2013. You didn't mention 2007 but I thought the writers probably enjoyed their best year here. 2006 was quite poor though.

Spot on. Weeks 24 through 30 were the best part of 2006, but don't even come close to Weeks 9 or 12 of 2010.

I think the characters they're working with are just as much of a problem.
I was against Sharon's return because I felt they would have nothing to do with her, Sonia will be another pointless addition...she might have connections but what is she going to do that will be interesting to viewers? There seem to be so many characters like this at the moment just floating around the Square not doing much of anything. I really think they need to go back to basics and create some interesting solid family units. And no more returns of deadwood (Sonia) or people who's have already been in/out and who's storylines are finished (Ronnie, Sharon). |
