16-10-2013
1. The Name of the Doctor - 8.63
2. The Snowmen - 8.01
3. The Crimson Horror - 7.88
4. The Bells of Saint John - 7.43
5. Hide - 7.42
6. Cold War - 7.06
7. Nightmare in Silver - 6.81
8. Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS - 6.37
9. The Rings of Akhaten - 5.22

Series 7b Average - 7.2/10

No surprises at the top or bottom - the bottom three were especially obvious, but I'm quite surprised at The Snowmen being regarded so highly, or Bells being considered on average better than Hide.

Snowmen isn't too much of a shock. It was very popular - especially compared to the rest of 7b.

Did DWM split the season in two for the poll?

I didn't bother to vote, and I haven't voted for a few years now. They're all pretty much of a muchness apart from a couple that were crap. The only one that was in any way distinctive for me was Crimson Horror.

I'd have definitely swapped Crimson Horror and Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS, surprised they're that way round but hey ho, to each their own. Obviously a lot of people voted on it, but I'm shocked to see Journey do so badly. Not surprised about Crimson, I knew a lot of people liked it.

Well I'd swap Hide and Bells...and Nightmare and Journey. Definately go along with the top three. (Although, to channel Eric Morecombe, not necessarily in that order. : )

Can't remember how Unquiet Dead polled...could well be Gattis' best showing? And quite right too. IMHO 'The Crimson Horror' is an absolute riot.

I would've swapped Bells for Journey in the order but apart from that pretty much as I saw it.

I would have swapped Hide with The Bells of Saint John - thought the latter was absolutely awful.

Come to think of it, The Crimson Horror is the only one of those episodes I really, really like. Akhaten and Name are enjoyable in their own right too, and Hide isn't too bad, but I think only stand out to me because the others were more of a let down.

The Name of the Doctor is one of the best stories that have been in New Who. Glad it won.

Top three were bang on for me, as was the bottom one. the others could be listed in any order between.

I'm very glad for Snowmen. This episode really deserved high rating. And sorry for Rings of Akhaten. Also, Hide is underrated and Gatiss' episodes overrated.

A shame that A Town Called Mercy ranks so low. I hold it in much higher regard than the two Chibnall-penned episodes.

So:

the probability of an episode being in the top half of the list if it contains the Ponds is a bit more than 83%;
the probability of an episode being in the top half of the list if it contains Clara is more like 33%;
the probability of an episode containing the Ponds if it is in the top half of the list is a little above 71%;
the corresponding probability for Clara is almost 43%.
Hopefully Jenna will get some better material in the future.

Go along with that. I think it has it's champions (I'm one!) and will possibly be more highly regarded in the future. (Is it a western thing? Remember 'The Gunfighters' being slagged off back in the day. When I finally got to see it...thought it was great! )

Quite suprised TATM is top...good episode, but think I'd put it Seventh.

Still...all opinion!

I'm amazed that Cold War is so low down. I thought it was a cracking story, combining all the classic Troughton base under siege elements, plus a classic Troughton monster too, with today's fast paced style. Top cast too.

The top 6 is spot on in my opinion. Worst episode for me was A Town Called Mercy though.

I really liked Cold War, though I think they should have gone prosthetic for Skaldak's real face rather than slightly ropey CGI.

Also, while the 'new' Ice Warrior suit was kinda cool, I actually prefer the dimensions of the classic Ice Warriors as they were almost bulbous around the shoulders and waist.

Less human-centric is what I'm getting at. For Larry Niven fans, the classic Ice Warriors remind me (a bit) of his description of Protectors.

I agree. I would even rank Dinosaurs worse than Akhaten.
