I don't think he is the Doctor who put an end to time war, because even though it was terrible, the Doctor knew it was the only thing left to do and he didn't regret what he did, and he wasn't afraid to hide it.

How about this we know the Doctor and Susan left gallifrey. We don't really know why but the child left with her Grandfather. Will it go full circle. Is he the Doctor's son and was unworthy of the title for some reason??? Which technically means he is the Doctor...

Or did he create the Pandorica "in the name if peace and sanity, but not in the name of the doctor"?

Far from being hare-brained, JH as the Doctor's son is a superb suggestion - especially in the 50th year of the show.

The missing generation between the Doctor and Susan is something that can be explained without ruining any good "mysteries" of the show - so it's a good idea in lots of ways.

And don't feel bad if it's not "correct" in terms of matching what moffat has created - it's still a great idea and would make a good story.

The only problem is the Doctor's response that "He's me. There's only me here. That's the point."

Not that convincing given that Clara was ALSO there - unless you are saying that SHE is also The Doctor.

Hardly, she'd jumped into his timeline to tackle the GI. The Doctor is clearly meaning everything other than her is him (and his memories).

The Doctor that we know seems to have made some kind of peace with his decision to end the Time War - but there's no reason that that's the event he's not willing to put his name to.

What if he tried to do something even worse in an attempt to end the War?

What if it was something he did that started the War?

But 'the son' would be a memory and therefore can still stand as a valid point.

Would be a terrific story plot but as the programme had "John Hurt as The Doctor" emblazoned at the end of the programme, I very much believe him to actually be the doctor in some way and not a relative.

Like you say, a great concept, and definitely one the show could get some mileage out of if they wanted to explore it in future, but it's unlikely this time owing to the 'as The Doctor' line, and also the 11th Doctor's insistence that he's him.

Question why did Clara recognise all the other doctors in his time line and not the JH doctor?

Would make sense if it was the son. And why did the Doctor and the Susan steal a tardis and run away in the first place? (my knowledge of the early seasons is sketchy )

That's the great mystery. We don't know for certain. All we know is that The Doctor and Susan had some adventures prior to An Unearthly Child (one involving Henry VIII) and that he wanted to see the universe.

Maybe in a wibbly wobbly way Hurt is the Doctor and the Doctor's Son.


At some point the 8th Doctor has sex with a Time Lady who has travelled from the past. She returns to her own time (and husband) but is pregnant.

She gives birth to a Time Tot who grows up to be the First Doctor.


When the 8th Doctor realises that he's actually his own father (major blunder for a Time Traveller) he dies of embarrassment and regenerates into John Hurt.


Hurt who calls himself the Doctors Son rather than the Doctor then realises that the Doctor has never had children (apart from himself) and thus never had a grandchild.


So in the name of Peace and Sanity Hurt then gets a Time lady pregnant and when the baby girl is born he takes the Doctors cot from the TARDIS and sends it back in time to when the Doctor was in his first incarnation.


Along with the baby he sends a note saying "This is Susan, your Grandaughter. I'll explain the rest later".



Once the Family tree has been sorted out Hurt regenerates into Chris Eccleston to fight in the Time War.



So John Hurt is The Doctor, the Doctors Son and Susan's Father.

My hare brained idea is that the story follows the Day of the Daleks story. Some terrorists from the future try to destroy a peace conference which will lead to a terrible future - Earth in 2030 will be overrun by The Doctors.

Somehow (because of the conference) the Doctor managed to get infinite regenerations and they all like to hang out in 2030. The human population is getting thinned out, as they get talked into being companions to a Doctor, go off adventuring and never return because they get married to barbarian king or trapped in parallel universe or trapped in NY or something.

Clara and the 11th Doctor follow the terrorists (who happen to be zygons and daleks) to the future. Eleven meets 10th, 89th and 4096th Doctors on arriving there. They talk 11 into being on their side and he throws Clara in jail. She's rescued by a renegade Doctor (John Hurt).

Hurt and Clara travel back the present disrupt the conference without actually hurting anyone. No more infinite Doctors. Hurt fades away (he was number 20 million). Eleven fades back. The End.

The Doctor saying "That's me." isn't convincing evidence that John Hurt is the Doctor?

My wacky take on it is that it is THE doctor? when the GI went in to kill off past doctors? He went about altering the timeline. During this altering, Clara jumps in and starts making things right.

Now how does she know what is exactly right? If she corrects something she shouldn't, or corrects something in the wrong way, hey presto we have another version of events as created by Clara and not those intended by the GI.

That's why she doesn't see this Doctor as he doesn't exists until her interference and is then created. thus by the time the DR jumps in, he's always existed. So to Matt smith, this Doctor is part of him, to Clara she doesn't recognise him as she's unknowingly altered the timeline.

It would be an easy way-ish to explain it being the doctor, without changing regen numbers or being a lie! And by the end of the episode the timeline can be fixed.

Of course, it could be they've gone the whole hog and that the Master is actually an evil incarnation of the Doctor (Hurt)! Well, Murray Gold did say there was something very controversial in the 50th ep...!

Your original post - the one I responded to - included the COMPLETE quote - "He's me. There's only me here. That's the point." - and I pointed-out that the Doctor was NOT the only person there - so unless you are claiming that Clara is ALSO "The Doctor", the statement "there's only me here" was hardly intended to be taken as an absolute truth.

And seriously - have you missed the fact that just about everything moffat has ever written has been a play on words - from "duck ponds" to "it is discovered". Just because a character says "There's only me here" does not mean a damned thing when you have a writer who makes a living out of twisting the meaning of words.

I can't help shaking the idea that the 'controversial' thing might be that the cast of "Adventures in Time and Space" will actually be playing the first TARDIS crew in the 50th too, and not just portraying the actors who played the characters for the docudrama. It's the perfect cover, any shooting could be explained away as footage for the docudrama without arousing suspicion, and it would perhaps explain the incredible detail that has gone into the First Doctor's console room (i.e. why recreate the whole thing in minute detail, when a partial set would probably get the desired result too). It'd also be the perfect way of celebrating 50 years - the current and very first iterations linking up in some way.

I don't personally think it's all that controversial an idea as there is precedent with the First Doctor being recast before, and, having seen the cast photos from the docudrama, the look of the cast is uncanny. Just a gut feeling like, but I quite like the idea.

So The Doctor is confusing the GI who thinks it is all The Doctors, The Doctor and Clara were never there in that timestream, they were elsewhere.
