I only started reading this forum last year so watched a great many series of Strictly blissfully unaware of the concept of a "ringer". I don't think many Strictly viewers are. Last year Denise didn't win because she failed to endear herself to the public, not because she was perceived as having too much dance experience.
Likewise, I think people made such a fuss about Denise's dance experience on this forum not because it offended their sense of fair play but because they found her an abrasive personality. I really didn't mind Denise as a personality, got what she meant about just "sitting on a chair in Chicago (correct me if I'm wrong dance aficionados but in my humble Cabaret watching opinion, Bob Fosse's choreography is stylistically strong but not technically challenging), think she worked hard (did you see how emaciated she and James Jordan were by the final?) and was so weak in some of the Latin dances that she was hardly at a standard that none of the other celebrities could attain (Louis and Kimberley were able to dance the Cha Cha Cha better than Denise in week 1).
Natalie does make me pause because she's already dancing at a standard far higher than any celebrity this year and, arguably, any celebrity in the last 10 series of Strictly. But then I just want to overlook all that because she's beautiful charming, an amazing dancer and allowing Artem to produce some of his most memorable choreography.
