They're not (or perhaps via some community thing like Google Contributor which I was still waiting to be accepted to the beta for). But they can avoid everyone using them - including me - by not having intrusive adverts that prevent you accessing the content, spread malware, deliberately make you misclick etc. Then they get whitelisted. Or they could go for non-intrusive ads, which by the default Adblock Plus settings (which I've kept) are automatically whitelisted already.

I know, and me too. Digitalspy isn't one of them at the moment I'm afraid. (I'm sure they must get something out of all the 'natural' advertising of the various TV and other networks though)
You have to wait until the ad at the top of the forum has fully displayed before clicking on the thread you want.

I did know really. I just wanted to double check that my understanding isn't a one way download, going forward. And next time I'll become a corridor advocate and take it offline.
Not really sure what you're saying here. You're talking in riddles.
But yeah by whitelisting I mean adding a domain to an exceptions list, allowing it to show ads - I tend to do so when they ask nicely (sites often detect ad blockers and display a message), only reversing it if they do turn out to have obnoxious ads. Furthermore, Adblock Plus also whitelists ads themselves that Adblock (the company) considers non-obtrusive, subject to an application and vetting procedure. I think in combination it's a fair compromise really.

Adblocker plus is not available on Google store.

There's now video ads appearing. Shocking.
https://adblockplus.org/android-install you can sideload it, or install a dedicated ad-blocking browser

Lol. My point is that whitelisting sounds like the annoying gobeldegob corporate speak buzzwords that are infecting all our speech eg Going Forward and take this offline.

Every time I refresh the page or load a new one (it happened when I pressed Reply just now) is this...

The page very briefly loads as normal. Note the advert in the top right corner. Sometimes it's at the bottom of the screen.

http://i43.tinypic.com/2dhi689.jpg

Almost immediately, and without me pressing anything at all, I'm redirected to the App Store, like this:

http://i41.tinypic.com/jsj4lv.jpg

It's not always the very same app, but always a game from the same developer and the one seen in the corner of the DS forums page just before it redirects to the App Store.

I was also seeing the AdSense words whilst logged in. I had to go to the AdSense website and opt out.

I get exactly the same on my iPhone, never used to be this bad

I also don't know why they insist on telling me about their cookie poliicy when I have clicked close, yet it tells me on EVERY page.

Haha no, whitelists have been around for a long time. Virus scanners have always had them, but it's not even a technology thing as the word's been around since about 1905

Now where are my zigbee connected quantum dot internet of things...

Marvellous since I installed ABP app. Now I can enjoy DS again. Incidentally, at this moment I am using Chrome on my pc and ABP has blocked 27 ads. How ridiculous is that. I would not mind seeing the odd advert, but 27 is just asking for us all to instal an ad blocker.

I haven't read all the replies but I'm guessing DS aren't going to do it anything about it then?

Might have to get an ad blocker then, it's literally impossible to view this forum on my iPhone 6, every time I click something it loads the page, then before I get chance to click on anything it loads that stupid game add in another window!

I think I've tested almost all the ad bockers, Purify seems to be the best all rounder, with the most customisation.

I think you'll find it really goof in use.

It seems to be the one with the least bugs, loads pages really fast and doesn't leave white boxes where ads should be, but best of all is you can report problems or whitelist a site from within Safari.

If you are going to pay for an ad blocker, I'd recommend Weblock. It not only stops ads in Safari but in games and other apps too.

Not sure why, but when using Purify some of the DS articles don't seem to display correctly (which isn't a bad thing half the time I know ). What I find is the main body of text tends not to display at all. If I disable purify and reload a couple of times he article loads fine, albeit with the associated ads.

1Blocker has a ridiculous level of customisation, but the author has an in-app purchase to unlock the full premium version rather than actually being able to buy it on iTunes, which is largely why I won't try it.

I've been using Purify for a while though and i do agree that it's the best.
