Ok heres my problem . 1 broken ( after 20 months )LG dvd / blu ray player / home theatre system . all works except the DVD , guessing laser u/s although still plays music cds ok. it has hdmi , optical and usb ports as well as the old phono ( red / white / yellow ) set up . can i link another dvd player to it so i get the sound through the home theatre and picture on tv or am i resigned to having to wire direct to the tv and put up with the tinny speakers ??
cheers

Most DVD players will have a digital audio output. If the Home Theatre optical port is an input then you could connect the digital out of the DVD player to that for sound and HDMI or SCART to the telly for pictures.

It would help us give more precise answers if you tell us the exact model of the Home Theatre system. That way if you are unsure whether the socket is input or output we can look up the specs and check. If the Home Theatre optical socket is an output then it is no use, it has to be an input to connect an external unit up.

According to the manual on the LG website that optical socket is an input. So can be used to connect an external player. It would be easier to get a player with optical output to avoid having to convert coaxial digital to optical (easy enough but needs another box of tricks to do it)

And also in the manual there appears to be a button on the remote labelled OPTICAL to select it. So looks good to go.
