He's a pathetic druggie junkie WASTE OF SPACE and I reckon he'll be dead in the gutter by the end of the year.

I will never forgive him for needlessly splitting up the Libertines. At least he's a good anti-drug advert

Completely agree with you, the guy is a waste of space. He thinks he is a musical legend, but he isn't, he is just a sad junkie. The NME recently rated him as the "2nd coolest man in music", they are equally sad for saying this. Sometimes he is so wasted before gigs, he never turns up. What a way to say thanks to your "fans".

I quite like The Libertines, but actually prefered them the time I saw them without Pete playing!

NME talks fanboy crap shocker!

The only reason we still hear about him is because of the tabloid circus that follows him around, waiting to fawn over his zany antics ( ). It's certainly not his music talent.

i feel sorry for the lad. can't he be treated against his will?? i seem to remember elton john (an ex-addict himself) "kidnapping" robbie williams and sending him into rehab . the sad thing is that mags like NME celebrate him . they should be ashamed of themselves . how on earth could he have been voted as an icon? .let's not forget this guy has a kid. no one seems to mention that. perhaps, if he's reminded from time to time about this he might actually try harder at quitting.

bloody hell, i realise now that in getting old. im 30 but i saw him on tv today and he looked young, babyfaced.

the thing with rock music is it really has all been done before, there are no new ideas really. ive listened to all the old stuff from the 60's 70's and 80's and now its just rehashing whats been done before imo.

This is a guy in serious need of help. When people have sunk as low as he has then compulsory detox is necessary. I can't understand how people can be so harsh on someone in this situation. Remember there are far more evil people on the planet than him.

Doherty and his ex band are media whores without the songs to back it up!

I don't understand why Pete Doherty is so famous. I had never heard of him or the Libertines until the tabloids suddenly started taking an interest in his drug habit, but I don't understand why they started taking an interest in him, because he wasn't famous before then. Chicken and egg.

Erm, the Libertines were being hailed by the press as a band to rival the success of Oasis long before Pete was thrown out of the band, which was big news in itself. And if you really havent heard of the Libertines you really should check the two albums out.

The Libertines released the best album of last year - in my opinion anyway - but sadly Doherty hasn't grown up like the other members. I hope he does because he is a great talent.

Don't feel sorry for EMI, these are the fools who wasted £80 million on Robbie Williams, who like Doherty is a media whore with a talent way below his actual popularity.

Not that Doherty or the Libertines are really that popular, hey but it's really "cool" to take drugs kids!

Babyshambles, says it all really!

People are "harsh" because he can't even be bothered to turn up for gigs he'd rather waste his life on drugs stupid bastard, he really cares about his fans doesn't he!

EMI should drop him, what a waste of money, time and effort better spent on more deserving bands and artists

EMI should give him a stark choice, gets himself sorted out or dropped. The Libertines did exactly the same thing. He will either sort himself or kill himself. The fact is he is making too much money for EMI to be dropped or else they would have done it already.

totally agreed I had to look twice when I first read who babyshambles were signed to. Its a disgrace but lets face it if he wasn't signed to them he'd be signed to someone else he's a phenomenal musician with a massive fan base. The bean counters at EMI must be very pleased with themselves instead of one libertines album they will get a babyshambles album and a libertines album from the rest of the band.

hopefully his jail time and rehab will sort him out.

btw if anyone has read the robbie williams story on the frontpage it's total bull as mr. doherty is under curfew for the duration of his bail. You obviously never know what either of them could do but i'd be very suprised if Pete turned up.

Agreed. EMI could have bailed him out at any time over the last few days. I believe the only reason they did it at all was to ensure he turned up at the Brits, preferably stoned and/ or drunk. He hasn't done anything musically to justify his presenting an award, so why on earth would the Brits organisers even want him there, let alone on stage? Just when you think the Brits are re-gaining a shred of dignity and credibility they go and do this.

Kind of agree, but don't really feel the need to kcik someone who is clearly down, full stop.

Why do you, as you seem to be passionately happy that he may soon die?

Ad as an aside, The Libertines >*

You can't claim to understand how good they were, until you have fully listened to the albums.

I wonder if the people in this topic who claim Pete Doherty is a 'waste of space' and 'talentless' can actually name 5 Libertines songs without using looking it up? Thought not.

"Media whores"? I don't see how you can call Carl, John and Gary media whores, they don't call the papers and tell them to to write about Pete.

In short, I am bored of hearing idiots who have no idea about Pete or The Libertines and all they've heard are the stories in the Sun and Mirror whining about Pete. And wishing he was dead? You're more of a waste of space than pete will ever be.

The libertines were media whores before Doherty was kicked out the band. I saw them live on Jools Holland and they were ok but they are overated and overhyped.

As for Doherty he can't even turn up for gigs he is a waster that has contempt for his stupid fans who forgive the poor love .

The so called cool image of druggy rock stars got boring decades ago, I don't wish him harm but I don't care about someone given shitloads of money by a record company that could put it to better use.

There are bands and artists as good and better than Doherty and the Libertines that don't get in the spotlight as they don't hang out with the drug dealers who supply the likes of Doherty and his record company parasites!

Your comments are well, a bit narrowminded.

It's quite laughable really how you think peoples opinions on him are only valid if they could know the names of 5 Libertines songs, well here you go -

Boys In The Band, Up The Bracket, Last Post On The Bugle, The Delaney and Can't Stand Me Now

So now I can have an opinion of him?

I am a Libertines fan, but just because I am a fan, does it mean I have to condone Pete's behaviour? The answer to that is simply no. You seem to be saying that if you haven't heard of The Libertines, Babyshambles or Pete, you don't deserve to have an opinion on the subject. I never knew you knew Pete so well(!)

In my local indie pub, there is lot of banter from girls saying they want to marry Pete because he is a god, but if it wasn't for his "celebrity status" he would be any run-of-the-mill drug addict that I see every day. I wonder if he would have as many girls wanting him if he wasn't Pete Doherty. His cult and obsessive fanbase are part of the problem in my opinion, I reckon they must be feeding his already huge ego. He doesn't deserve any fans after the farce of his last Babyshambles tour when he didn't turn up to a gig in London and when he did turn up to other dates, I heard he could barely sing, play guitar or walk during some parts of the gig. What a nice way to say thank you to your fans. Oh, and he had to dissapoint his fans again by having to drop out of yet ANOTHER gig yesterday!

He made some good tunes with the Libertines, but as a person, he just seems sad. I certainally don't wish that he ends up dead through drugs and his abusive behaviour, but I hope that he does get himself sorted out soon and gets on with his life.

Condoning his behaviour? Nope, like you said, terrible idea.

Commenting on how he'll be dead soon, and opening a thread with the intention of it being filled with hate filled vitriol, for someone none of these people know? Worse.
