Hi guys I wonder if you can help me out here.

I’ve just connected a working Homeplug to my Humax HD-FOX-T2 Freeview HD box in order to get some online services. I went to Settings system internet settings configure LAN The following appeared

Ip address
Netmask address
Gateway address
Dns address

There was a IP address and a Netmask Address (don’t want to give them here in case it breaks my security; the Gateway Address and the DNS Address were down as 0.0.0.0

But when I click apply I get the message ‘Network Connection Is Unplugged.’

I don’t understand this message for I’ve tested the homeplug on this computer and it is working fine. Can you offer any suggestions as to what I might do.

Additionally if I press the Humax TV Portal buttonI get the message: ‘Cannot connect to network. Please check your internet or network setting.’

My reason for asking is that I have just subscribed to Netflix and while I can connect my computer directly to the TV I’d like to be able to do so directly. Can you get your Netflix via the Humax box anyway?

I could pick up some TV internet services on my Sony Bravia pre 2011TV but as I understand it Sony are not issuing any more updates for pre 2011 TV’s as they consider them outdated! Hence the reason why I’m trying to pick up Netflick via my Humax

Does the network settings screen have an option for "Auto" or "DHCP", perhaps when you go to the IP address field? The null addresses for gateway & DNS sound like the box has been partially manually configured, it is better in most cases to let it contact your router and get addresses from it.

I've pulled up the settings on my router, a netgear router, and initially I set the IP Adress and Netmask as the router info gave me, but I still get the same message 'network connection is unplugged' and when I
set it up as DHCP I still get the same message.

As a (can't be bothered it's so shite) user of the Humax TV portal my advice is to unplug your Humax from the router and spend the rest of the evening doing something more productive instead.

The Humax Fox T2 portal is a waste of your broadband bandwidth quite frankly. The only thing on there remotely useful is BBC iPlayer. And last time I used it it was such a painful experience to navigate I gave up and picked up the laptop. Now I have iplayer on the telly and it is a million times better.

And forget Netflix. It doesn't have it as far as I can see. You can set up an account on myhumax.net to manage the "apps" and I can't find any mention of Netflix or anything remotely similar.

Well I got my problem sorted - well ALMOST

Turned off the Humax at the back, Turned off the telly and disconnected everything from the mains. Replaced the cable between my homeplug and the humax and choose to let DHCP give me the settings. I can now connect to YouTube BBC iplayer etc.

My ALMOST was that I was hoping that I could access my netflix account directly via the Humax rather than having to connect the laptop to it or my Sony Television. But I was disapointed that this doesn't seem feesable..

So connections are made via APPS. Are there independant apps out there that I might use, in much the same way as you can get apps for your mobile.

As I said my main reason for wanting to connect my TV to my network was to get netflix. So anybody useful suggestions?

I think you are flogging the proverbial deceased equine on this one. From what I can gather reading up on other Humax related forums it doesn't seem Humax are putting much effort into the Fox-T2 line. The HD Fox-T2 (the receive only version) is already discontinued. Looks like the HDR Fox-T2 may be on it's way out as well if the rumour mill is to be believed.

If you want Netflix then I think a Humax Fox-T2 is not worth continuing with. I seriously doubt it will ever get Netflix or anything similar.

In that case if the TV can't get it the cheapest option might be to try and hook up the laptop to the telly and stream that way. It all depends on what connections are available on both. It seems HDMI is becoming more common on laptops which would be ideal to connect to the TV, assuming a spare HDMI socket exists.

DVI on the laptop to HDMI on the TV is another option for the pictures. If the TV is set up to use one HDMI input as DVI it likely has a mini jack or pair of phono sockets for audio yo can connect to the headphone out on the laptop.

The other possible option might be VGA plus a separate audio lead.

Other than that the only other options will be more costly. You can get small boxes that stream content from the internet for display on the TV. Or you could replace the TV with a Smart TV with Netflix on-board.

At the moment I'm using my laptops hdmi port to connect directly to the television and that is doing the trick. I had hopped there was a less akward way of getting the film onto the television.

Unfortunately for many of these services a computer of some sort is often the best option, though not always the most convenient all the time.

Some so called Smart TV's should be done under the Trades Descriptions Act. Unless TV manufacturers have invented a new definition of "Smart" that means the exact opposite of what you and I assume it to mean

I recently got myself a "Smart" TV but was positively underwhelmed at the wealth of content I now had at my fingertips. BBC iPlayer is about the most useful option there. I think it has Netflix and may even have Lovefilm as well. But as I don't subscribe to either service I haven't bothered to explore those options.

It's really difficult to find our what features a 'smart' TV has. I've got a Sony and it has BBC iPlayer and Demand 5 but not ITV Player or 4OD; LOVEFiLM but not Netflix. I've just looked at the Sony website and there's no way you can tell which services are available.

I've got a LG 42LN575V and the LG website shows some of the services available on that model

But I'm not sure it's entirely accurate. Pretty sure after it did an update very recently Demand 5 appeared in the list but it's not shown on the website (not in front of the telly so can't confirm if I'm imagining Demand 5 or not )

Doesn’t that just mean that the features could very easily be thought of as inadequate?
I've read that Samsung include apps for Iplayer, ITV player, 4OD and demand 5 so I just tried an internet search for Samsung smart. Just a few clicks later had a list of all their apps displayed (http://www.samsung.com/uk/tvapps/).
It lacks sky player but for many their apps will be adequate which is why I suspect that they are willing to be open about which apps are available.

Nothing wrong with the internet radio function

Samsung Smart TV & recorders are excellent but different models have different apps,obviously from different makes Smart just means the unit is Smarter than your average box in the corner but not having the same apps
