Tescomobile PAYG Data Scam???
I have a Samsung Galaxy Ace (my own) and I have Tescomobile PAYG, but they are charging me £5 a month for a data bundle to access my own Wifi in my own house which I already pay for with another company.
I phoned Customer Services and told them and the guy said if I want to access any data at all even at home I have to pay this monthly data bundle charge. Anyone have any advice on this please? p.s. I do not use the internet by phone outside of my home. |

Have you tried turning 3g or data services off. I can't see how they can tell if you are using wifi as long as the 3g is off.

you do not have to pay tesco to use your own home wifi. cancell it and make sure data is disables on your phone to save any nasty surprises.

this is a out right scam, but a mistake must be made somewhere, either way....
First thing to do is switch to another company, then port over your number to that network. There is no way in hell they can charge you for using your own internet, its a load of rubbish |

If, however your phone is not connecting to your Wi-Fi and you use the internet then you will have to pay Tesco. It sounds like your phone is not connecting to your wi-fi and then using the mobile data from Tesco instead. |

We'll given the fact O2 wouldn't be able to know if your using your wifi, it's pretty clear its a misunderstanding rather than a scam.
The op used the words data at home rather than wifi, it would be very easy to interpret that as mobile data especially when communicating with a mobile data provider. To stop any out of bundle charges just disable mobile data on the handset. |

I have checked and it is using my home wifi I have now switched off 3G on the phone but not sure what to do with the part that says 'use packet data'. I was told not to switch that off by Tesco customer services.
Thank You to everyone for giving advice. |

The OP should disable 'Use packet data'.
I would have thought that Tesco would disable Internet network access if requested. T-Mobile and Vodafone have done this for me on contract Sims. (Useful when going abroad.) |

Clearly the phone was using Tesco's network for data and not your home wifi. There's no scam or mystical thing going on here, the phone either uses Tesco mobile for data or your home wifi but you need to switch (correctly) between the two. Smart phones do lots of background things so it may even have been the case that the phone was doing some updates when you weren't even using data.

I asked them to do this and they said it was not advisable, so they didn't.
If it was me I would just them to turn data off. If doing this gives you a problem, then you can always ask them to turn it back on again. |

Also you say you don't use data outside the house, but i bet you do? Is you phone configured with your email. If so unless you have changed the email settings this will use data outside your house.
IMHO Packet data being switched off is like crippling your phone. |
