Ben Daniels considered as the Doctor?

In the interview with Ben on DS he says he was approached about playing the Doctor, but surely this contradicts with what Steven Moffatt said about only having one person in mind to play the Doctor this time? I'm sure he said he just met with Peter Capaldi straight away and that was it.

Was if for 12 or 11 or 10...? Who said it was for this doctor?

No he clearly says it was for the Doctor after Matt Smith.

I'm aware that Steven Moffat does not always tell the truth when talking about Doctor Who, but that's usually when talking about the future, not the past. I don't see why he would lie about this.

All the interview really says is that there was a long list with Daniels on it, then a much shorter list, then he became aware that somebody else was going to get it if they could make themselves available, then that the deal had been done.

I doubt Moffat could have gotten away with having only one iron in the fire for whatever period of time it took to get Capaldi's signature on the dotted line. There are just too many uncontrollable factors.

According to Steven there was no list at all this time!

No matter how "sure" they were that capaldi would accept, the BBC would have insisted that they had other names willing to sign on the dotted line in case the 1st choice unexpectedly declined.

If Capaldi had refused, then im sure Daniels would be the Doctor now.

Then he's being disingenuous. Apply the standard pinch of salt.

Yeah, seems to me that Ben Daniels was second choice.
