BBC Radio Sheffield
'ONE NIGHT IN SHEFFIELD'
A very interesting programme on BBC Radio Sheffield last night. A semi documentary which aired from 10pm until 6am Saturday morning. It was about Sheffield's night life hosted by Rony. All the Journalists/reporters were out and about in what I understand to be an experimental broadcast with special dispensation to break away from normal programming. It was called 'One night in Sheffield', they had various members of the Local authority adding to the input, and a bonus for me was my Son Scott was invited to appear to talk about the night life since he owns Sheffield's largest club 'Plug', and also on various committee's for public safety. The first part (1 hour) is now on I Player and here's the link. Other parts will be available during the day. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p01jb1yz |

I accepted the inevitable that Phil Butler's 70s and 80s show would not be on, so I had an early night and am listening to it on BBC Radio Leeds via I-player now. One frustration is that the listen again feature has changed, and we now have to listen to it from beginning to end without skipping a minute or two, or longer should we want. I wonder why the website has changed?

I think Radio Sheffield should broadcast an hour-long highlights show for those who don't stay awake all night or don't have time to hear an 8-hour programme.

The problem I referred to when listening online appears to have been rectified now. I was just able to listen to Phil Butler via i-player and fast-forward past a handful of songs.

Paul Walker deputising for Toby Foster all week last week had callers ringing in with true-life spooky Halloween stories did anyone catch it?. Halfway through an old guy came on from Gleadless with a story about his grandad an alehouse keeper in Sheffield city centre I enjoyed the story and thought I'd share it, I think it was lost on Paul Walker though.

Don't know if there are any Football Heaven and Praise or Grumble listeners in here but I always listen to these shows and really enjoy them. For me Paul Walker is the best one of the lot but he seldom does it these days and we lost Seth Bennett to the main station in Manchester but I like Rob Staton who's very good and Murray Brinell, (if I've spelt his surname right) who had his first dip into it recently I thought was excellent, sadly I just don't rate Andy Giddings at all, he's fine on matchdays and doing commentaries but he's hopeless and lacks any humour for doing live phone-in shows in my view.
A guy named Mick the Owl rang in tonight trying to duel with Brian the Blade, (the guy that rates himself about on a par with Jose Mourinho because he once managed a few local Sunday sides around Sheffield) he sang a little ditty at the end of his call and it made me laugh. ![]() http://www71.zippyshare.com/v/1709867/file.html To play it just follow instructions on above post (#7) |

There are some changes to programmes from the beginning of April.
Russell Walker's Sunday show will switch to Fridays. Phil Butler's 70s & 80s show will switch from Fridays to Saturdays, still 10pm to 1am. Diana Luke's 60s show will switch from Saturdays to Sundays, but now 9pm to midnight, with an hour pre-recorded of love songs immediately afterwards. Diana stated that this is to standardise Mon-Fri programming but that Phil's music might not be so appropriate for a Sunday night. (I sometimes listen online on a Sunday if it's inconvenient on a Friday!). |

Those changes make sense. Diana Luke has done love songs after midnight on Sundays before. It is strange that hour being pre-recorded as it has been for years, because it's the sort of show listeners like to interact with by submitting dedications.

BBC Radio Leeds does not take Diana Luke's 60's Show on a Saturday Night instead it is Gary Copley.
With these changes is Gary Copley moving to Sundays when Diana Luke moves to Sunday nights. |

That would be strange because Gary Copley's show is repeated on Sunday afternoons when there is no rugby league. I expect it will be repeated this Sunday afternoon. I suppose they could take Radio York's Sunday afternoon content instead.

According to the latest schedules on line now Gary Copley is on 9pm until 10pm on radio Leeds between the folk show and Diana Luke on Sunday nights

Yes Gary Copley has been reduced to 1 hour on Sunday nights between 21.00 - 22.00 on BBC Radio Leeds.
BBC Radio York has a new Sunday night schedule: 18.00 Yorkshire Farming 19.00 Gary Copley 20.00 Henry's Jukebox (BBC Radio Humberside programme which also goes out on BBC Radio Lincolnshire) 22.00 Diana Luke |

Diana is broadcasting her final Sunday 60s show as I type this. She has other work outside radio including earlier starts on Mondays, and has noticed a drop in participation by listeners as more people have earlier nights on Sundays.
I think she would be willing to do other weekend radio work in the future. Current indications are that Steve White will take over the show but for a more general retro show than just 60s. |

That's a shame, Diana is a great presenter and she does a good 60's show with good features. I think it is better than Sounds of the Sixties on BBC Radio 2.
I admit I haven't listened to Radio 2's Sound of the Sixties for quite a few years now.
