Nexus 4 battery draining problem
Hey,
I seem to have a problem with the battery draining faster than it should. Under "Battery" in settings the culprit seems to be "Android OS" which often uses more power than the screen. Under Apps running I have: Settings HD Widgets Box Volume Locker AntiVirus TeslaUnread Plugin Exchange Services Google Services Light Flow Lite Google Keyboard I have installed BatteryGuru to try and save power as well as Wakelock Detector to try and find out what's causing the issue. Any further ideas would be appreciated. Cheers Gormond. |

What does "faster than it should" mean in the real world? half a day? I assume you have removed the antivirus etc to see how it performs without it?
My os is always higher than anything else. |

I haven't tried removing my AVG as it didn't cause any issues before 4.3, do you think that could be the culprit? |

That would be my guess right off yes, especially as it may be awaiting an update for 4.3. As with any battery issue when they happen it usually is a process of elimination.
10% at the end of the day however doesn't seem that bad to me though, would you class yourself as a heavy/medium/light user. My OS is always top of the battery list unless I have the screen on for long periods, gaming etc. Mine has been off charge for a few hours and the percentage of drain for the os is 20% How much do you think you are losing in battery time then, compared to previously? |

I'm a medium user I would say with about 2 hours usage a day, most of which is web browsing and email. I used to be able to get 3 hours screen on a day but now if I do that my phone doesn't make it till the end of the day (due to Android OS using more battery than it used to). |

Not sure whether it works or not but I always fully drain and power the battery once a month or so. Run the phone down until it dies then reboot it to remove the last few drops of power then charge when phone if off and leave plugged it for a bit after fully charged.
Seems to work for me but may just be psychological ![]() I have also read many people say deleting the battery stats help battery life but I am sceptical. |

Still not helping, the phone refuses to go into deep sleep..
I have installed an App called Deep Sleep Battery Saver to see if it helps. |

That makes hardly any difference to battery, I used to always keep gps off but it only accesses it when asked to which is rare.

I have installed an App called Deep Sleep Battery Saver to see if it helps. Also try a little app called CPU spy. Just open it and then close it and remove it from recent app list. Then give it a couple of mins and check to see if it shows deep sleep in the list. |

My phone has been off charge for about 4 and a half hours so far today with only minimal use but it's sitting at 96% battery which is a huge improvement over what I was getting.
It will get a good test on Monday where usually when I got home at 7PM its almost dead <10%. I predict it will probably be around 30% now but I will report with what I get. |

Yep, basically it was location settings which was causing the phone to stay awake.
Hopefully there is a bug fix in the future. |

I'd been having some seriously bad battery issues with my N4 too on 4.3, I've tried the turning location services off trick and it has worked like a dream! Also found turning Facebook background notification sync off too has helped immeasurably.

Seems to be working though, I have sent a few texts today and made a phone call and i'm still sitting at 91% battery. |

My currently stock N4 running 4.3 has every service on by default and I can get upto 4.5 hours of screen on time if I use auto brightness. I did come to 4.3 from Paranoid Android so I did a full wipe. I would recommend a full wipe whenever doing a major update. Currently I have 68% left with 7hs 12 mins off charge. Screen is 20% and Android OS is 4th at 9% and 18m keep awake. Android OS should not be higher than this if you are actually using your phone. |

Okay, after a full days usage (8:30 till now) my phone is at 47% at medium use. This is a massive improvement of about 30% battery saved.

Swordman do not do that. You are risking draining the battery so far that you will get the dreaded red notification light of death. Sometimes the only way to wake it back up is to take your N4 apart and disconnect the battery,

My os is always higher but then I do have oled with black background so may account for this. My battery is currently 82% from 7.30 this morning although granted very light day. Screen is 10% os 20% system 22% never failed to get a day regardless of my usage, often only change on second night. |
