Sadly, I think not.

Our cats frequently go next door where our neighbours did have an awning covering part of the courtyard.
They often climb onto the pipework that remains.
None have come to any harm despite sometimes falling off

Lives are to cats as regenerations are to timelords.

Years ago one of our cats jumped (or fell, I can't remember which) from an upstairs bedroom window! He was fine, he was only young and he wasn't allowed out yet.

Cats can fall from quite a height and survive, I wouldn't worry

They have a much slower rate of descent (and terminal velocity) than humans and other animals and have the ability to 'right' themselves while falling so always land on their feet. They spread their legs and use the flaps of skin by their back legs to act as a kind of parachute, that along with their light bone structure and flexibility means they are rarely injured in falls.

Cats evolved from tree dwellers which is why they still have those particular features and why they like seeking out high places.

The OP's subject heading suggestes that the cat, in a fit of despair, was about to purposefully end it's life. I'm almost disappointed that it turned out to be about a cat sliding off a roof

One of my cats jumped from an open bedroom window onto the decking...made a hell of a thump but she was fine. Scared me more than her I think, as I couldn't settle until I'd found her & made sure she was ok.

We let our kitten out last week for the first time and she fell out of a conifer. She was right at the top and then she just plummeted downwards, accompanied by a variety of screams from the kids and moaning noises from OH. She survived unscathed and was, in fact, totally unconcerned.
