Continuation of: The Ratings Thread (Part 3 (1))
Its not easy for Robbie when ITV is beating BBC1 by 20% in primetime share on a night BBC1 used to call its own. The pressure down in Skyes House must be intense to explain where it all went so badly wrong. Heads will roll if performance doesnt improve

The wiff of bull plop is to be excused as he tries to blame Christmas shopping, public transport, the weather (too hot or too cold), the fact that there is an "R" in the month,.................................
George - I have no personal, commercial or financial interest in the performance of any of our broadcasters.

Unlike some on here...

(EDIT: And your above post has been stored in the memory banks, and may be coming back at you on Sunday 21st December...)

Also, for the record, I have never blamed the cold weather on SCD's ratings. That said, it's been bloody cold this past few days - must have finished off a good number of those famous SCD grannies you keep going on about and knocked down SCD's ratings this weekend...

On ITV's FA Cup coverage today a section of the crowd started a rude chant about ITV's football coverage. I don't know if it is up on You Tube but it was funny! Just saw it at the TV Forum.

Just read that in the Telegraph. I heard that ITV's coverage today was very poor.

Astonishing X Factor ratings. Looks like the Britney factor worked after all. The final has to get 12m+ with ratings like these already.

I can't believe I'm seeing the day when ITV wins Saturday and BBC1 wins Sunday!!

The BBC used to own Saturday nights in the 70's.

Yep, XF ended at 21.10, too, and the ratings for it will have been measured until 21.15. Although, most of the audience stuck around for Miley Cyrus, as 12.3m watched whilst she was on. Between 19.35 and 21.10, XF averaged 12m!

Also, I've noticed that XF was above 12m solidly between 20.30 and 21.10, including adverts.
I was surprised at Miley! She was actually immeasurably better than Britney, but I didn't think putting her on at the end was a good move. As it happens, the ratings only dropped a little bit and they always do that anyway when they go to the recaps. How did she manage to get the best watched guest slot of the series?!

I think XF Results finished reasonably on time last night (just 2 or 3 minutes shy?) but it also started 3 minutes late so there will still be a significant timeshift that could put both XF shows at the top of the official ratings again.

Shocking coverage by ITV by the looks of it. Look at those graphics... looks like it's made by some school Graphics student. They couldn't even wipe off the rain drops from the camera lense. Poor quality, poor host and pundits, adverts... another 3 years of this .

You know this thread would be all the poorer without these comment drawing opinions from RS. Alot give balanced viewpoints but there is a definite ITV leaning from others and this kind of equals it out a touch.

Right get Harry Hill to present a Generation Game for the new century and follow on with Ant and Dec as the new Morecambe and Wise. Quite who could be Michael Parkinson and Mike Yarwood is a bit more difficult.

Seriously I would love to see how the BBC would use Ant and Dec and I bet they will swap channels before their careers run down even if they have to take a hefty pay cut.

It was interesting to see Jana Bennett say she would be "unlikely" to be offering a mega pay deal to someone-you see you can never say never!

I remember the days of BBC joining Gary Lineker two minutes before kick off of Manchester United v Arsenal just because they needed to fit in some drivel before hand.

I think the coverage has improved since the move across from the BBC, with more understandable and happier pundits (Alan Hansen means I can't watch Match of the Day half the time), and someone else presenting the football instead of Gary Lineker. They also give the football more time (for goodness sake, Histon v Leeds had a 75 minute build up) than the BBC ever bothered to do.

At least ITV actually are willing to give time to the FA Cuip and international football. Unfortunately, they may as well give up. For some reason, as with everything else, the BBC is preferred.

Personal opinion only, admittedly.

EDIT: And adverts on a commercial channel. Who would have thought it.

No way Ant & Dec would go to the BBC purely because they can't take their shows with them. Britain's Got Talent and I'm A Clebrity are on ITV and huge hits. Why leave those behind and end up like Graham Norton was at the start of his BBC career with the network scrambling to find a show for them?

ITV will only be properly interested when they get the chance to show Man U. These irritating lower league prols must get right on their wick!

It's the same with all the sports on ITV. The quality of the F1 pictures on BBC next year will look so much better, HD or not, ITV just looks all pixelated.

75 minutes for a second round FA Cup match is excess. What are they planning for the cup final?

06:00 - GMTV
09:25 - FA Cup Final
19:00 - An Audience with the England football team

The BBC gave time to the FA Cup and England matches. They were covering the early rounds of the FA Cup just like ITV are now, and it was Greg Dyke's evening scheduling of some matches which helped reignite passion for the competition. It's just like Formula 1, the BBC made it really popular and then ITV offer a shedload of cash and buy the rights. Steve Rider is a competent host but he is also a bloody boring one. Lineker is slightly better but none of them are in the same league as Jeff Stelling on Sky.

Well I think they're contracted to showing them but as you say they can't wait for some name sides to be in there.

The Beeb still dont know how to use Graham Norton-and have never got the best out of him. He should be used in the Ross slot on BBC1-the BBC two shows might as well not happen given the ratings they get.

I cant see Ant and Dec moving now or in the next few years either, but if they did you can bet the BBC wouldnt make the same mistake as with Norton.

I totally agree about Jeff Stelling, he's brilliant. Richard Keys isn't too bad either. I think I'd preferred Craig Doyle orJim Rosenthal doing the football coverage, rather than Steve Rider to be honest.

As for giving time to the FA Cup - I seem to remember the early rounds of the FA Cup (rounds 1 and 2) being crammed in a 15 minute slot at the end of Match of the Day, while ITV actually gave a whole highlights package to the rounds. And the evening matches, while giving the competition a boost, did not make the competiton popular. The FA Cup has always been seen as the premier Cup competition in the world, wherever it was broadcast.

I agree that the BBC did well for the FA Cup in terms of ratings, and their England coverage was good. But ITV1 are doing no worse, and think they're getting criticism because of the ad breaks (as I said, to be expected on a commercial channel) and because they're not the BBC.

ITV's tactic is to "grab" sports that are popular off the BBC and then produce medicore shows so people complain. I can think of at least ten things that made F1 fans complain.

That's my argument. They're no more 'mediocre' than the BBC shows, yet people seem to find stuff to complain about.

The one thing annoyed me about F1 on ITV was the adverts during the race, but as I said, ITV need to make money and if that's the way they do it, well, there you go. Otherwise, I thought their coverage was pretty good.

It's not the commercials that bother me, it's the selection of commentators and panel members that they have. But to be fair their coverage of the Rugby World Cup was excellent.

With Formula 1 their big problem was that the commercial breaks seemed to come at crucial moments in the action. That will always drive people crazy. Their Formula 1 coverage has won awards though. Not quite sure how to be honest!

I agree on David Pleat. The rest are OK for me. As I say I'd prefer Doyle or Rosenthal to present rather than Rider. But generally it's pretty good.

I think stuff like the Champions League/Rugby World Cup/even the F1 in the end, people accepted because ITV in the end has/have a pedigree in hosting it.

When ITV take over promoting something, though, people appear to have issues with it - but it doesn't work like that the other way round.

Monaco 2008 was the final straw for many. A really tense race, with Hamilton trying to overtake IIRC and ITV went to an ad break with 5 laps to go.

I wonder whether the irony of Leeds fans calling something else s**t has been lost on anyone?
