"Strictly embargoed until 00.01 on Tuesday December 9, 2008 "

Uh?
I think it means the press can't report that information in the PDF file until that date.

I read it; it's going to be a battle between Torvill and Dean- boys v girls. I dunno how it'll rate especially against EE and also will dancing fans be fatigued after watching an hour of Strictly? Hmmm... tough one to predict.

Interesting that ITV1 beat BBC1 in the post News at Ten slot. That doesn't happen very often, does it?

Imagine tends to pull various ratings depending on topic and I imagine this one wasn't mainstream enough. I would of thought that 10pm shows on Channel 4 or Five beat the post BBC News and News at Ten as they have shows that can pull between 1.5-2m figures like Desperate Housewives and CSI.

Brilliant rating for The Mentalist- probably the most succesful new programme from America in the last 2 years. Five have got a potential hit on their hands. A nice CSI lead-in would be great.

Official Top 10 Programmes for w/e 23 Nov 08
1 - 11.77m - THE X FACTOR (SAT 1925) - ITV1
2 - 10.75m - STRICTLY COME DANCING (SAT 1819) - BBC1
So, not just TXF that gets big time shifts. Massive audience that for a 6.15pm show.

10 - 7.03m - MERLIN (SAT 1926) - BBC1
I think we can officially call this a "hit". And against a popular show on ITV1 too.

Latest Update: Official Top 20 most watched programmes of 2008

- Multiple entries of the same programme not allowed
Glad you've seen sense...

They've missed out the second 'stEnders there which was indeed at 8.30.
Thanks - I was convinced I was right! I'm sure Keeping Up Appearances won 16m+ because of the EE sandwich.

Anyway, I don't know why people are moaning about EE at 8pm and 9pm on Xmas Day - ITV1 do it with Corrie twice a week! It seemed daft when BBC1 did this in 1995 - perhaps this is where ITV got the idea from....?

Watch TXF race to the top of the chart once we have the Live Final official ratings.
Bet it doesn't.

In fact, I will happily donate a festive tenner to the charity of your choice if it beats 13.88m for either its final or results shows on 13th December.

"Strictly embargoed until 00.01 on Tuesday December 9, 2008 "
So, even ITV refer to DOI as "Strictly"...

Some Christmas ratings thoughts i've posted in the Christmas TV thread...

BBC1
15:00 HM The Queen
15:10 Film : Shark Tale
16:30 Film : Wallace & Gromit : The Curse of The Were-Rabbit

20:30 Wallace & Gromit : A Matter of Loaf & Death
Bad move by the Beeb. I know Christmas Day is all about overindulgence, but this is silly. Curse of the Were-Rabbit could have pulled mega-ratings (9-10m) in a prime slot on Christmas Eve where Toy Story 2 is now, and set things up nicely for the special on Christmas Day. COTW is at best going to get 7m in that slot I would have thought.

Christmas Eve (ITV1) - Digiguide

7.00 Emmerdale
7.30 Coronation Street
8.00 You've Been Framed
8.30 Midsomer Murders
Yay! I was right about BBC1 last night then. That's a good line up, and with no soap competition this year, and following EE, My Family could do some very good business, many will stay for HIGNFY, and at 10pm, no-one is going to switch to the last half hour of Midsomer, so I think that is a very strong Christmas Eve line-up for BBC1.

ITV1's line-up looks rather mundane.

Well, if Alright on the Night in its 80s prime (an 18-19m banker for its infrequent one-offs) couldn't do the business against the Beeb's big hitters on Christmas Day 20 years ago, it ain't going to do now. Didn't a new episode a few months back get 3m on a Saturday night?

Good ratings then for the Royles...

I want to see full schedules though!!

The Mentalist has really taken off partly thanks to NCIS which is also enjoying success, I agree that if Five really want this to be a hit then they should pair it with CSI or Minder though I have a feeling they will probably air it when House returns.

Yes indeed. Perhaps hope for a revival if it rates decently over here on FIVER?

Absolutely. This is such an exciting pickup for Five and I can't wait to see it over here

As for the US overnights, that's an outstanding figure for Without a Trace. I was worried the show might be running out of steam a bit but the ratings certainly don't reflect this!

Just a bit of fun - some obscenely early, and fairly conservative, Christmas ratings predictions:

Xmas Eve

1. EastEnders – 10.3m
2. Coronation St – 9.5m
3. My Family – 7.7m
4. Emmerdale – 7.0m
5. Midsomer Murders – 6.4m
6. Have I Got News For You – 6.3m
7. Shrek the Halls – 5.7m
8=Gavin & Stacey Christmas Special – 5.0m
8=Film: Toy Story 2 – 5.0m
8=You’ve Been Framed – 5.0m

Xmas Day
(not incl The Queen simulcast or 10 min news bulletins)

1. EastEnders (9pm) – 11.3m
2. Dr Who – 10.6m
3. The Royle Family – 10.5m
4. EastEnders (8pm) – 10.5m
5. Wallace & Gromit – A Matter of Loaf and Death – 10.0m
6. Coronation St – 9.0m
7. SCD Christmas Special – 8.0m
8. Film: Wallace & Gromit in the Curse of the Were-Rabbit – 7.0m
9. Film: Shark Tale – 6.0m
10=Emmerdale 5.8m
10=Blackadder Rides Again – 5.8m
10=Dancing on Ice at Christmas (well, in March really) – 5.8m

Boxing Day

1. EastEnders – 9.7m
2. Coronation St (7.30pm) – 9.1m
3. Coronation St (8.30pm) – 8.3m
4. Film: Pirates of the Caribbean – Dead Man’s Chest – 8.2m
5. Film: Chronicles of Narnia – 6.4m
6. TV Burp Review of the Year – 6.3m
7. Emmerdale – 5.8m
8. You’ve Been Framed – 5.1m
9. Film: Madagascar – 4.8m
10=ITV News (1810) – 4.6m
10=Caught in a Trap – 4.6m

Will probably bolden these up a bit nearer the time.

What do you reckon?

I think it will certainly run BGT close for the final results and probably beat it. BGT had the benefit of the momentum build up through the week. But XF has been rating higher than those weekday shows across the 16 weeks so far. The only doubt is that the results shows have been the weak links.

Although it does look like XF will top BGT for series average which means the two top rated talent shows of the 21st century will both have been 2008 series. I never thought BGT would only hold that title for 7 months.

I hardly call the results shows weak links. After 7 result shows the official average of them is 9.55m and the final results show is generally the highest rating of the whole series.

I never thought anything would top BGT's official series average of 10.2m but TXF has it in the bag now.

As I don't have a BARB button-pressing machine, I can watch whatever I want.

I wish I did have one though - I could tell them how all 8 of us in my house were watching SCD, whilst actually watching TV Burp.

Well, they rate lower than the performance shows this series! Although if your "weak link" gets 9.6m viewers a week, then that suggests the show is in a very healthy condition.

Then factor in the family viewing - 'Grandad' wants to watch 'To the Manor Born' so on Christmas Day the entire family ends up sitting watching it, normally the rest of the family would go into seperate rooms and find something else to watch on Five or Dave
In my experience, Grandads always wanted to watch Emmerdale.

More people watch EastEnders at Christmas than anything else. If people are so fed up they should probably stop tuning in....
I would hope its because the BARB samplers have overdosed on sherry and turkey at this point of the day

Absolutely nothing about the Christmas schedule excites me. I don't like Wallace and Gromit, I don't get Strictly and I don't like soaps...so whats left?

(aside being sociable and talking to the family and visiting the neighbours which I do, but I assume is rare on DS)
