Yep, for sure.
I just read that if The One Show gets over 5m tonight, it'll be the first time in its history to top 5m in the overnights for an entire week. That's really good. I think 5m+ overnights might become the norm come the end of the year for The One Show.

Fantastic rating for CSI- is that it's highest rated episode ever? I think it's a good sign that it'll do very well here.
I'm shocked Life of Riley and Green Green Grass retained the audiences that they did - considering how poor they were and how badly they've been panned, their numbers were still surprisingly decent. Hustle did well in the 9pm slot - its one of BBC One's multiple, and very reliable 5-6m bankers.
Total Emergency isn't so impressive, but I don't think ITV would have been expecting much more than 4 million or so from that type of commission, so I don't think they'll be unduely dissappointed. The Krypton Factor badly needs a better slot than going up against EastEnders - its done well enough to suggest it could be a moderate hit elsewhere in the schedue, but its going to go down if it stays where it is.
BBC Two had an absolutely brilliant night. Masterchef is huge for them, and is scheduled brilliantly to offer their 9pm commissions the best possible chance - its payed off nicely with Victorian Farm.

Far from it. Some episodes used to be able to get 30m and compete with American Idol. For AI2 and AI3, CSI split the performance and results shows to take #2 in the season chart. Greys Anatomy moving to Thursdays at 9pm hasn't helped.
But it's better than usual for the past few years.

Cheers for that. Never knew that CSI was such a huge draw 5 years ago. Nowadays I think only American Idol can hit that 30m mark.
I think here in the UK, it might get similar figures to the premiere, maybe even topping it depending on the competition on the night.

Thanks a lot for that. Big Brother's moved around a lot over the years! It's a shame that C4 mess around with its schedule nowadays, such as next week, and try to use BB to improve another show's ratings. And sometimes it doesn't pay off, like Dead Set recently. I think next week's 8pm shows, especially the Monday one, will get a battering from the soaps.

Is The Krypton Factor really competing for the same audience as EastEnders, I don't think it is, The Krypton Factor wouldn't get massive ratings where ever it was scheduled due to the fairly serious nature of the programme. It doesn't interest the 'Heat magazine' generation.
Decent enough for BBC One's two sitcoms last night, but they need to level off in the ratings now, particularly The Green Green Grass.

BBC1 has just advertised Not Going Out as "coming soon". Perhaps it will be on at eight thirty on Friday opposite Coronation Street. Let's face it, it's never really done brilliantly in the ratings. Although this means no more F-words which they used in the last series and which is a post-watershed word. Or maybe the BBC press department has made a cock-up. That would be par for the course for the BBC these days.
I've just gone back into the BBC press page for Friday 6th February and Old Guys isn' there any more so it looks like it's been ousted by Not Going Out, which is a disappointment.

I remember reading an interview with Johnny Galecki from The Big Bang Theory, where he was talking about what size of rating is considered a hit now in America compared to a few years ago. He said The Big Bang Theory is considered a hit because it gets 11 million, but when he was on Roseanne the cast felt bad if they dropped below 28 million!!
Ratings erosion is happening everywhere.

No way that show can go out before 9pm with some of the content they put in it.

Actually, I thought Life of Riley was stronger last night than last week and although GGG probably needs putting out to pasture now, it had its moments with the return of the Driscoll brothers.
If the LOR ep last night really was the intended first episode (and I think it probably was), the BSI made another trademark cock-up by not running it last week. Or perhaps it was a plan to run the weaker second episode first on the basis that people would probably tune in anyway to the first episode, and then hit them with a stronger second episode to make them more inclined to watch a third instalment - rather than get a good audience for ep1 and then have them switch off during a dud episode 2?
Either way, GGG is clearly suffering and the 8pm comedy hour is sadly not looking much stronger than the Friday comedy zone.
Still think the Beeb should have a serious stab at prime time Sunday nights for sitcom (ie, not 6.15pm), now that the soaps have vacated, and re-establish a tradition from the golden age of the 70s and 80s. As I suggested last week, I reckon something like GGG would get a decent audience at say 7.55pm on a Sunday against DOI and sandwiched between AR and Candleford - 5-6m rather than 4m.
As for Wednesday night, more underperforming footie for ITV1.
5m for a match like that, with an upset realistically in prospect for a good hour, and with BBC1 not performing greatly either, will be another disappointment. No wonder there's talk of Des making a return - same old ITV, always wanting to nick stuff from the Beeb...
Greys Anatomy beat CSI in the first head-to-head, IIRC. It was when ABC were really challenging CBS and their move into CBS "territory" on Thursdays was a big thing.
It used to be getting about 15-17m following on from Desperate Housewives on Sundays which was 20m at the time. But then Greys got a post Superbowl slot which brought 37m viewers and carried on, taking Greys ahead of DH for the rest of the season.
In the US, viewing seems far more spread out. The big 4 networks don't get a share of 40% between them. Perhaps it's a warning to ITV, because in the US I think they don't have the same system as we do where everyone has BBC1 on Channel 1 or ITV on Channel 3. It just depends on the area and CBS can be channel 8 for example. In New York, The CW is channel 11, I think and that's a Five equivalent.

Cable tv in America is far better funded and resourced than our own non terrestrial channels though, so its no wonder so many more Americans watch cable channels than when compared to UK viewers. Could you ever imagine the likes of Sky1 or Living tv making stuff like the Sopranos, the Daily Show, Mad Men, the Shield etc

Yes I was surprised there were a number of comments thinking 5m was a good get-but like you say-primetime with a possible upset, those arent inspiring figures to me.

I'm sure BBC1 would have averaged a good 6-7m (at least) for the same match over two hours from 8pm with an 8.05pm kick off, even against The Bill.
Indeed, only a couple of seasons ago the BBC shunted the only midweek replay game in one particular round of the FA Cup to BBC2 because it was two Championship teams I think, and whilst it didn't get a great audience overall, it went to extra time and penalties and got 7m for the last half hour from 10pm - and ITV couldn't even manage those heights with Chelsea!

I think it's got a lot to do with the quality and poor publicity the show has attracted recently particularly the sacking of co-stars and rumoured on set tensions.

Grey's Anatomy used to be brilliant in it's first two seasons but it's really declined in quality ever since, and this season is easily the worst of the lot. It's jumped the shark now.
