Monaco 2008 was the final straw for many. A really tense race, with Hamilton trying to overtake IIRC and ITV went to an ad break with 5 laps to go.
That was bad but not as bad as San Marino 2005 when Schumacher had closed the gap down to Alonso to 1.5 seconds and ITV decided that they'd go to some ads for the last 3 laps of the race.

Then to make matters worse, they decided to show the last 3 laps after the podium celebrations.. totally irrelevant when we know what the bloody result was!

I think Ofcom had some words to say on that if I remember correctly.

I wonder whether the irony of Leeds fans calling something else s**t has been lost on anyone?

Sorry ratings guys.. Off Topic.

I wonder how the FA Cup ratings will do? Top 1m? Doubt it somehow, even if Leeds were being humbled.

Anyone know what the highest rated day of the week was back in June? and out of interest, the rest of the year round?

Sundays are pretty much the most watched day all year round. In the winter there can be a total of 28/29m people watching tv in primetime - 3/4m higher than the second most watched day (which is Saturday atm).

I thought so, because families are all in and because the beeb tend to launch most their dramas lately on a Sunday (Little Dorrit and Survivors being the most recent two) but are you sure it's also the case in the summer?

Because the Sunday shows for big brother are always the second lowest performing days and looking at barb the highest rated non-soap sunday show in the first week of June this year got less than 5 million.

Always puzzles me why the commerical channels don't go for the 18-35 audience then. I know the films pull in well for Channel 4 and Five, but you'd think they'd try and air some more key shows in Sunday prime time. Guess that's why ITV tried to swap The X Factor: Results to a Sunday.

Well pensioners may still be watching TV with their cardies on and the heating turned up... most other people are out drinking cider aren't they??

Lol, at 10 o'clock (big brother's slot)? With school the next day for the kiddies (during early summer anyway) and work for the adults (if they're employed)?

I would love to see how the BBC would use Ant and Dec and I bet they will swap channels before their careers run down even if they have to take a hefty pay cut.
Talking of ITV talent potentially swapping channels, I see that for a second week in a row, Al Murray is fronting another Friday night BBC1 show - this time, Live at the Apollo.

George - you'd better have a lie-down...

I just looked back at the total audiences for 8pm and 9pm for the Week of Sunday 1st June- Saturday 7th June.

Here are the total audiences (millions):
Code:
	8pm	9pm
sun	23.7	22.4
mon	22.6	22.2
tue	22.3	22
wed	20.8	22.7
thu	20.8	23
fri	20.3	22
sat	19	20
Sunday 8pm was the peak viewing time of the week. Sunday 9pm was beaten by Wednesday and Thursday 9pm. On Wednesday a highly anticipated episode of The Apprentice was on, and on Thursday Big Brother launched. Usually they would be a bit lower.

I thought he was under exclusive contract to ITV?

Seemingly not....

I think the BBC could offer him something far better than ITV. Viewers, for a start.

Well had he done his sitcom Time Gentlemen Please on BBC2 or Channel 4 instead of Sky he would have developed a much bigger fanbase to build on.

That's more of a teen's show, not 18-35.

Besides, at the start it was sandwiched by the news and Heartbeat. ITV didn't know which audience to aim at.

impressive, must just be that the viewers are more spread out than other days that I couldn't find many high sunday figures for that week.

BBC viewers...like those who watch Hole in the Wall?

I'm finding it hard to give any credit thinking about that.

Finally got round to doing the monthly averages (all hours share) for BBC One, like mlt11 did for ITV1 yesterday

BBC One

Jan 2008 – 21.8% (Jan 2007 – 22.3%), Change = Down 2.2%
Feb 2008 – 21.8% (Feb 2007 – 22.5%) Change = Down 3.1%
Mar 2008 – 21.2% (Mar 2007 – 22.0%) Change = Down 3.6%
Apr 2008 – 21.7% (Apr 2007 – 21.5%) Change = Up 0.9%
May 2008 – 21.5% (May 2007 – 22.2%) Change = Down 3.2%
June 2008 – 22.0% (June 2007 – 22.7%) Change = Down 3.1%
July 2008 – 21.5% (July 2007 – 21.0%) Change = Up 2.3%
Aug 2008 – 24.4% (Aug 2007 – 20.5%) Change = Up 19%
Sept 2008 – 20.8% (Sept 2007 – 22.6%) Change = Down 8.0%
Oct 2008 – 21.2% (Oct 2007 – 22.0%) Change = Down 3.6%

The overall picture pretty much confirms what we'd been suspecting for BBC One. A solid first few months with around 3% decline followed by a great summer (with the Olympics giving that huge anomaly in August) followed by their worst month this year in September.

ITV's are below for comparisons sake

ITV1

Jan 2008 - 19.1% (Jan 2007 - 19.2%), Change = Down 0.5%
Feb 2008 - 19.0% (Feb 2007 - 19.7%) Change = Down 3.6%
Mar 2008 - 18.6% (Mar 2007 - 19.7%) Change = Down 5.6%
Apr 2008 - 18.6% (Apr 2007 - 18.8%) Change = Down 1.1%
May 2008 - 19.7% (May 2007 - 18.9%) Change = Up 4.2%
June 2008 - 17.8% (June 2007 - 18.8%) Change = Down 5.3%
July 2008 - 17.3% (July 2007 - 18.6%) Change = Down 7.0%
Aug 2008 - 16.1% (Aug 2007 - 18.3%) Change = Down 12.0%
Sept 2008 - 18.3% (Sept 2007 - 19.6%) Change = Down 6.6%
Oct 2008 - 19.4% (Oct 2007 - 20.8%) Change = Down 6.7%

Thanks sn_22.

I wonder why the bounce for BBC1 in July? What was on then that was so popular it managed to increase BBC1's share?

Channel 4 have now moved Star Stories to the Thursday night slot despite the poor performance of 8 Out of 10 Cats. I'm starting to think we might see a move for Big Brother Eviction Shows when it comes back in January.

I think BBC One attacked summer a bit more aggressively this year than in the past and it worked quite well for them. I can certainly remember debating the merits of the strategy on here a few months back.

Looking back at the BARB Top 30's for July, they enjoyed a very strong week of Wimbledon and also did very well with Criminal Justice stripped across the week. 'New Tricks' debuted in July pulling 8m plus and Bonekickers too (which actually did quite well till everyone realised it was pap )

I suppose one could argue this left them with less strong stuff for autumn, perhaps accounting slightly for Septembers poorer performance.

Maybe in timeslot, but not in days.

The contract signed to keep using the current house states that all events bar 5, must take place on a Friday. Unless they some how get it changed, which would mean voiding that contract and writing up a new one.

If 8 out of 10 cats performed poorly though on Thursdays, is an odd move to take another Friday show and put it there.

I think the most likely move, is that they'll combine the two eviction shows.
