Good ratings for The X Factor and SCD - I think their ratings were to be expected because of the clash. Harry Hill did really well - isn't that his highest rating ever for his show? I love his mickey takes of the X Factor so I hope the extra viewers stick around with this show. Very poor for the Comedy Awards though.. despite many viewers turning over for The Xtra Factor, I'd have expected it to have got around 5 million.

I can't see the X Factor getting 15 million viewers for its final.. I think it'll peak at the 13 - 13.5 million mark..

First off, as another poster said, it should be remembered that XF beat SCD by 600k. Also, I'm not sure if I can see SCD's results getting higher than 9.8m tonight.

John Sargeant's departure doesn't seem to have done SCD any favours, as its figures have been going down since he left, and last night's show was 1m down on last year's equivalent show, XF was 500k up on last year for both episodes last night.

When SCD finished, XF averaged 10.9m for its remaining 50 minutes. If it had all aired after SCD as usual, I think it would have topped 11m. Yes, down on last week, but that was because of Britney, but up on two weeks ago.

Just a bit of perspective.

As for next week, XF won't get 15m. I predict (I'll make more accurate ones on the day), an average of 11.6-11.9m for the performances, and 12.0-12.3m for the results. SCD should get about 9.7-10m for both shows (although at the rate its at at the moment it could be under 9m ).

There was no reason why ITV couldn't have shown the British Comedy Awards tomorrow at 9pm. They could have scheduled it like this instead, which I feel, would've worked MUCH BETTER:-

Saturday

6:10pm You've Been Framed
6:40pm Harry Hill's TV Burp
7:10pm The X Factor
8:40pm Take That Come To Town
9:40pm The X Factor Results
10:15pm The Late News
10:30pm TV's Naughtiest Blunders

Sunday

6:00pm Britannia High
7:00pm Emmerdale
7:30pm Coronation Street
8:00pm I'm a Celebrity: Coming Out
9:00pm The British Comedy Awards 2008
10:30pm The Late News
10:45pm The South Bank Show

Well, there's my take on it. The Comedy Awards didn't have to be live after all??

But the positive thing from this week has been TV Burp, I can see it really benefiting in the future from this X Factor sandwich. A short term drop for X Factor could mean a long term plug for TV Burp.

So, a good night?
Well done BBC1 for a good recovery.”

That would have been excellent (although everyhting needs to be 15 minutes later on Saturday, so XF could avoid SCD).

Yes. The logic of my statement is that Corrie has already got a bigger audience this week (10.2m in the overnights on Wednesday) and SCD's Sunday show could do better than 9.7m tonight with ITV1 only running an hour long promo for Take That's new album as competition. So for this week at least, TXF could be the 3rd most-watched show of the week.

Mind you, Boris is on Top Gear tonight. We already know from the summer that he is ratings gold, and will appeal to the BBC 'middle Britain' Mail/Telegraph-reading pensioner audience that we are told is SCD's core constituency....

Both SCD and TXF have fantastic finals coming up this year.
The ratings front has been very strong too.
I actually do think that The X Factor could have up to 13m watching next saturday. with a peak of 14-15m and SCD getting 12m+

Sorry I thought you were talking about Strictly. I can't see the results show doing over 10 million tbh. It has struggled to get above that all series and don't think it will manage, especially with Top Gear on (6-7 million guarenteed) and Take That (4-5 million), its looking at slightly less than last night.

On another point, as much as it amusing to read can I ask why some people seem to hate everything the BBC do with a passion, and why others hate ITV with a passion? Both do particular things very well (ITV do 'Talent' shows very well, BBC do costume dramas). Both could do with improving however as they both have their weak spots.

I don't know - it's always puzzled me....

Lots to read through on here, today. Took me ages!

Re: Comedy Awards - Didn't they always get their best ratings on Sunday nights, rather than the Wednesday night slots they've had in recent years, and this year's Saturday slot? Might be worth considering for next year, even if it means recording the show the previous evening and doing away with any phone votes.

Then again, perhaps the main problem is the shortage of likeable and entertaining personalities in British comedy at the moment.

Not brilliant figures for SCD or TXF but reasonable enough all things considered.

I'm going on holiday tomorrow so wont be here for Sundays big result, I'll do my congratulations to TXF now.

Thanks rzt.

I've just realised that the results started midway through Casualty last night, which last year would have meant 7.5m. That peak is the same as last week, so I think the results would have got a similar figure to last week if it wasn't for the slot.

Good good.

I think it's just a case of "bad timeslot" on ITV's half for lower ratings combined with the fact that the semi's tend to rate less.

Now if Boris entered SCD, that I would watch!

Boris gave the game away in his column in Tuesdays DT anyway, as to how he did on Top Gear.

I'm sure the same nos. are interested in the result but can't see the singing waiters having the same pull as Britney in terms of the act performing earlier in the result show.

Interesting set of ratings. Clearly both talent shows have benefitted this year from avoiding the clashes which held them back in previous years. I think X Factor could have a shot at topping Britains Got Talent, though it might be held back slightly by the lateness of its results show - the winners not going to be announced till about 10.30.

It might benefit from a crossover audience that watches the Strictly results before it though. In the same way the soaps seem to compliment eachother during the week, I think the Strictly results could actually work in the X Factors favour next week. Theres going to be 5 or 6 million people leaving BBC One at 9.40, and who might well just decide to tune into X Factor, even if they've seen very little of the whole series, because its the final. ("I wonder if that cute little blonde haired boy in the paper wins?")

BBC One rebounded a bit this week with much stronger performances from Casualty which was up the best part of a million on last week. I don't think the BBC will be too concerned about it - I bet it'll be back comfortably above 6 million again once we get into the New Year.

Nice to see outnumbered growing a little. I'm hoping it gets a bit of a bump over the next couple of weeks with a Strictly inheritance. It has me in stitches every week and I'd love to see it do well.

Outstanding ratings for Harry Hill's TV Burp. Very impressive performance. Well done.

Unbelievable that just 2 years ago it was struggling to get 3 million at 5.15pm in the afternoon. ITV have allowed it to grow and now they've got a real gem in it.

Bloody hell!

That's very good for C4.

It did better than a Big Brother eviction, worrying.

Though it is a great, festive film.

These types of movies always do well in the holiday season. I'd actually like to see a few more movies in primetime on BBC1 & ITV and some older ones like Who Framed Roger Rabbit or Back To The Future. Why must they be stuck away in the afternoons. The Indiana Jones movies did very well for BBC1 a year or two ago, and they showed the original Italian Job in primetime and that did well too.
