Does anybody think that the Amazing Race or Survivor (did properly, with a good presenter) could do well over here? I think Five should look at doing one of these shows over here. I'm guessing they could get CBS to help make decent episodes as they obviously have a good relationship with them (csi etc.) Their just lacking that really big flagship show that they could build their brand around. CSI does well with 3 millionish but they really need a show that gets around 5 million like channel 4 does with BB etc.

I've never really understood why The Amazing Race has never been tried here. There were rumours that the insurance costs are through the roof, which if true is unfotunate.

I think it would do well on BBC1 on Wednesdays at 9pm, like The Apprentice.

Survivor was done back in 2001 by ITV and it was a flop lasting only two series and shows like Shipwrecked and to a lesser extent IAC are sort of successor to it. The Amazing Race would be good but unfortunately it's an expensive format involving different countries which is why it hassn't been rolled out as a format compared to Idol or Big Brother.

But if ITV2 can afford to do Jack Osbournes show and BBC 3 do Last Man Standing surely they have high insurance costs? I really think that show could be a flagship show for any of the five shows tbh, providing they did it properly of course.

But Survivor was done awfully. They really could have chosen better presenters for a start. Mark Austin (a good news presenter) and that other bloke weren't right for the show.

As I'm sure someone else said could they not use product placement to make it cheaper? Theres new rules for that soon isn't there so surely the could manage it.

Sorry if it has been mentioned but have people seen the new BARB site?

It lists all the obscure channels now too.

Some interesting things on there. For example Motors TV's top rated program was Teleshopping at midnight! And Ideal World's top program gets 20k.

Well, even if a small percentage of people who are watching order items they'll make a pretty good profit, I'd think.
Interesting to see that Movies24's top ratings come solely from their 'late night' offerings.

obviously not cause they've issued a profits warning and their share value dropped by 75% on monday, and they've started showing adverts from other companies. And have announced the're laying off all part time and temporary staff as well as sackink over 15% of full time positions in order to try and reduce thier losses

BBC1 9pm Apparitions 3m (14%) poor

Shame because, despite being 'tosh', Apparitions is actually quite an effective little chiller.

With BBC1 and ITV1 both airing flops in the 9pm slot last night the other terrestrials seemed to benefit, especially FIVE with their film premiere. I thought The Pregnant Man would get a lot more, considering the competition. Another low scoring night overall in the 9pm slot.

Very low night for BBC One and ITV1 with Real Crime coming up tops, Buzzcocks and Graham Norton benefitted from the weak competition and I'm surprised that Bad Santa beat The Pregnant Man considering it is quite dark but funny.

The Hairy Bakers did well which bodes well for Nigella and also Channel 4's Christmas food shows.

Tonights figures should be really low as well with people at Christmas parties, shopping, etc. Since people are staying in on Saturday night for the X Factor a lot will go out tonight instead.

But the X-Factor only gets 12 million.

Even dross like Family Fortunes used to get more than that years ago and I don't remember people staying in for it.

Poor for BBC One and ITV1 at 9pm last night. Never good to see them both struggling with just over 3m at 9pm.

And, what's all this about 8pm being a good slot to get rid of the remaining Trinny and Susannah shows? Surely 10.35pm would be best. All they'll do at 8pm is deny any meaningful inheritance to whatever follows at 9pm.

It's the final tomorrow. I'd expect 12-13m for the main show; 14m for the results.

The Amazing Race has been tried here under the name The Race, it was on ITV 2 and hosted by Keith Duffy. Sadly the show was rubbish.

That was an unofficial version though, it had a slightly different format.

I remember reading about it being crap.

Just had an advert on ITV1 Central promoting The Royal's return. Only problem is that they are promoting it as a New Series. How inaccurate.

Promoting it as a Continuation of a series would be factually correct, promoting it the way they are doing now is deliberatly mis-informing the viewer.

This what I mean about them not trying them properly. Instead of skimping on the budget why not get proper presenters, make the show a success and get the viewers. Obviously it would be good if they didn't have to, but sometimes it is worth paying out. They wouldn't even have to have the likes of Ant and Dec etc, they could get Michael Palin, Gyrff Rhys Jones (or however you spell his name lol) or someone like that. Somebody who you can tell has an enthusiasm for that type of programme, not somebody who is on a break from a man band and was a failure as actor
