So despite the success of IAC and XF, ITV1 suffers the largest peak-time decline.
No RWC this year

True, but how much of the decline can be attributed to RWC?

The figures relate to a period of 3.5 months - approx 105 days.

On how many of those 105 days in 2007 was an RWC match shown in peak-time?

4th out of 5 for ITV.

Didn't see it (doesn't look like many did!) but that title makes it sound like classic ITV2 fodder. Hardly 9pm ITV1 in the week before Christmas.

Superb result from Channel 4 last night, with Jamie Oliver capitalising on poor performances from the big two channels and Five.

Still, the terrestrials pulled just 55% of the audience at 9.00pm. Thats poor, isn't it?

Great night for Channel 4 taking advantage of the poor offering from the other channel with CDWM and Jamie Cooks Christmas doing really well, BBC Two had a decent night with Nigella and the comedy block, ITV1 had a mixed night with The Bill winning its timeslot but Fat Teens in Love did poorly and BBC One had a poor night with the factual shows doing badly beaten by both Channel 4 and BBC Two by 8.30pm while DAFB was on par with what its has gotten throughout the week though Secrets of Egypt is proving to be a solid hit improving slightly from previous weeks.

Isn't 8.8m standard and not particularly good at all?

Nice to see he Graham Norton Show doing a lot better after a not so good start to the series when it was in the 10pm slot.

The share was good. It doesn't often get 42%. But the actual audience was probably average for this time of the year. Seems like less people were watching TV last night compared to normal.

The share was over 40% and clear by 2 points, something which isn't common anymore for the show. And I'd say 8.8m is good yes. It's up 2m on Tuesdays episode and I don't know what EastEnders had last Thursday to compare (can't find the figures for last Thursday) but I bet it's up on that.

That's the thing with EastEnders, it usually makes something of a recovery from the Tuesday clash whereas Emmerdale doesn't.

Some news on ITV4 from broadcastnow:

ITV4 will show daily live coverage of the Tour De France for the first time next year and has secured the rights for the race until 2013.
This year, ITV has been showing broadcast daily highlights of the 3,500km tour this year and some live coverage, but will step up next year's coverage. From next July it will show live feeds each day of the three-week race, as well as an hour long highlights programme.

A simulcast of the tour as well as catch-up and highlights will be available on ITV.com, and mobile users will be able to watch transmissions via ITV Mobile.

The race will add to ITV4's sports portfolio, which includes the cycling events Tour of Britain and Tour of Ireland as well as UEFA Cup matches, Premiership Rugby and Champions League Football.

ITV4 controller Dave Fewings said: "ITV4's cycling coverage has been very well received in previous years and I'm delighted that we're now able to extend our live coverage of the world's most famous cycling event.

"After Mark Cavendish's spectacular stage wins in 2008 I'm sure we'll have more British success to follow live on ITV4 in the years to come."

Excellent news that live coverage comes to Freeview. I do like the Eurosport & ITV4 commentators as much as each other but unless Eurosport goes widescreen I probably won't watch it much.

Any idea whether live coverage would move to ITV1 for the weekends. IIRC, they did that a few years ago, but I don't think that they had any live coverage on ITV1 this year.

Survivors gets second series on BBC
The BBC has commissioned a second six-part series of Adrian Hodges' post-apocalyptic drama Survivors before the first run has finished.

The first series has been a ratings success for the corporation, averaging 5.9 million viewers and a 23% audience share in its Tuesday 9pm timeslot.

Like the original 1970s version, scripted by Daleks creator Terry Nation, the Hodges series was set in the UK after a virus had wiped out at least 90% of the world's population. The original Survivors series first aired in 1975 and ran for 38 episodes over three series.

The final episode in the current series, which follows the disparate group of survivors trying to build a new life, screens on BBC1 on December 23rd at 9pm.

Hodges, who was also behind Primeval and Charles II, will return to executive produce the second series of six episodes next year.

The cast including Julie Graham, Max Beesley and Phillip Rhys will return, with "further casting to be announced next year" according to a BBC spokeswoman.

Survivors, made by BBC Drama Productions, was recommissioned by the BBC 1 controller, Jay Hunt, and the BBC drama commissioning controller, Ben Stephenson.

Britannia High to finish on a low-medium
ITV launched new musical drama Britannia High in a blaze of publicity, with the nine-part series billed as climaxing with a spectacular 90-minute live special. However, ratings have not lived up to the hype, bobbing along at under 2 million viewers in its Sunday teatime slot. And now, it seems, the big finale has been toned down somewhat, comprising of just a 65-minute episode comprising a mix of live and pre-recorded matierial. An ITV spokeswoman said that at the time of the show's launch, the final episode was still being written and that it hadn't been changed because of ratings. The show will go up against a highlights programme of BBC1's ridiculous Hole in the Wall tomorrow evening. Monkey wonders which will come out top in the ratings...

ITV axes Passage to India remake starring Matthew Macfadyen
ITV has axed its lavish new adaptation of EM Forster novel A Passage to India, which was expected to star Matthew Macfadyen and Sally Hawkins.

The broadcaster confirmed to MediaGuardian.co.uk that the drama would not go ahead for financial reasons.

ITV is understood to have fought off competition from the BBC for the rights to the novel, reportedly paying £225,000 – more than three times the corporation's bid.

The broadcaster is also believed to have spent several hundred of thousands of pounds on pre-production, including trips to India where the drama was due to begin filming at the end of January.

ITV has been particularly hard hit by the advertising downturn, although it has pledged to maintain its programming budget.

The TV drama, based on the 1924 novel about a young Englishwoman who travels to India to visit her fiance, was to be directed by Adrian Shergold, whose credits include He Kills Coppers and Low Winter Sun.

Little Dorrit star Macfadyen had already signed up to the project along with Laurence Fox, Gemma Jones, most recently seen in Spooks, and Hawkins, who recently starred in Mike Leigh's movie Happy-Go-Lucky, reported to be in negotiations to join the cast.

A Passage to India was due to be made in-house by ITV Studios, for broadcast on ITV1 next autumn.

A spokesman said: "We are working hard to make sure that we extract maximum value from the schedule and spend money carefully and, as a result, we will not be taking forward the commission of A Passage to India. We remain committed to high quality drama on ITV1 and in 2009 have the likes of Demons, Law & Order: UK, Wuthering Heights, Whitechapel and the return of Primeval coming to screen."

The ITV adaptation would have followed David Lean's 1984 film version, which starred Judy Davis and Peggy Ashcroft, who won an Oscar for her performance.

I'm surprised that Survivors has got a second series, I think a better slot would of got better ratings which the BBC would have been hoping for. There are plans for 3 series though
US ratings - I didn't realise that Pushing Daisies was doing so badly, I was hoping that ABC would go for a 13 episode third season but it wont get it.
