Any idea what the strictly final got last year?

I think it was the only time XF actually beat SCD last year.

Tonight should rate better, as it's got better slots than last year. Also figures are up on last year anyways.

Does anybody think the farce of three people in the final this year will interest people in watching Strictly or drive them away in disgust?

I know One Night Only flopped on Sunday nights at 7pm, but it may do better in a Saturday night ITV1 slot. I'm not sure SCD has it easier than this time last year - didn't ITV basically give up on the corresponding Saturday 12 months ago? Britain Sings Christmas and all that rubbish?

With the controversy over last week's voting, and the bad press all week, I can see people not bothering.

I still expect SCD to get 10-10.8m for show one and 11m-12m for show two, but probably the lower end of the range. I can't decide whether extending show 2 to one hour (instead of 45 mins) will help the ratings or not - it may help it get a bigger peak by running past the "junction" on ITV where One Night Only finishes/Mission Impossible starts and thus nudge up the average, but it may be easier to sustain big numbers over 45 mins than 1 hr.

Seeing those overnights makes me think I've gone a bit low with 11.6m and 12.1m for the predictions game. I gave it that based on the general increase in ratings this year, but didn't really take account of the better slots. At least I should get a few points, though.

Constant publicity on BBC "News" should make up for the wearniess of the public over the voting shenanigans. Elections in Zimbawbe have been run better than the SCD votng.

Is this a deliberate underprediction so when the overnights come in tomorrow, you can say it did much better than you expected?

I'd be very surprised if the first show got less than last year's 10.9m because it's starting at a nice 6.40pm slot, not the early 5.50pm it had 12 months ago. And that second slot is better as well, with minimal competition.

I think if it had been run in this slot from the start among a better line-up it would have done better. But against the Strictly final and an inheritance from All Star Mr and Mrs isn't a recipe for success.

I'm not really sure how Mr and Mrs will do. It doesn't clash with Strictly and did really well at the start of its run earlier this year but it had dropped off sharply by the end of the series.

For One Night Only may be a bit tougher than last year offerings. But the first show gets a fairly easy run of it against 15 minutes of news, 30 minutes of You've Been Framed and 30 minutes of Harry Hill.


First rule about DS... when people are outraged and threaten to switch-off, the ratings always rise! A bit like the fiasco when Laura got the boot from XF (it was a "Fix", a "disgrace" etc.) but then the ratings shot up the next weekend and voting jumped as well.

This particular one might be bad for the phone voting, but I think it will work well for the actual audience. And the 3 way final is good news as well, I always like them more than just the 2.

The voting came up against one flaw last week, which was dealt with comprehensively, fairly and openly. (ie, not like Zimbabwe ) They've not exactly been deliberately fraudulent like some shows in the past...

Methinks you just can't resist to apply a little kick when something is down.

Outnumbered is messed about with for a second week then? Last week it started early, this week 20 mins late?

Which they have at least rectified openly and fairly, which was my point. I'd much rather they admitted and corrected a cock-up rather than sweep it under the carpet and knowingly de-fraud voters - which has happened on other shows in the past.

On the scheduling thing, I suspect the second part of Strictly has been extended because they now have three couples in the final, rather than the two they were expecting when they sent the schedules out to print.

If it was an ITV show, they would have waited for the Ofcom ruling before sorting it out...

9:05 and Casualty is still on

Travesty that Lisa has gone out, and this is now going to be won by the chap who should have gone out last week but is adored by the old grannies who make up the show's audience.

The Beeb really have to come up with a better system for next year.

Strictly finishes 22:12 - 7 mins over the revised finish time. DS's overnights should hopefully take the late finish into account, but I don't think MG or Broadcast will take notice.

And Strictly results is now finishing over 5 minutes later than the revised finish time (30 minutes later than billed in listings)

BBC2 is also running around 5 minutes late, probably due to the snooker.
