I'm surprised T&S haven't been dropped, I can only assume it's all to do with contractual reasons why they haven't. They have bombed since defecting from the BBC.

Ah, that explains it!

And it seems like "Thursday FlopZone" has a new meaning >> http://www.itv.com/PressCentre/Total...9/default.html”

Ugh, good grief. We speculated it would be sensible to shift Trinny and Susannah to 8pm, but if they're going to replace it with something that I already detest on the basis of the title - then there wasn't much point.

I think 9-10m is entirely achievable for a show that has consistently pulled in up to 11m over the years in competitive slots.

Rubbish, I made a real attempt to not get carried away, unlike the XF groupies did this time last week. I just pointed out the facts - that it was an hopeless night for ITV1, and BBC1 has held up better than ITV1 did.

BBC1
6.10 Total Wipeout (Hole in the Wall with Richard Hammond instead of Dale)
7.10 Your Country Needs You (Lloyd Webber tries to do a Sir Tel and looks for a naff Eurovision entry)
8.10 National Lottery (tired)
9.00 Casualty (endless)

ITV!
4.45 FA Cup 3rd Round
7.20 Demons
8.20 Family Fortunes
9.05 Millionaire

Prediction
ITV win until at least 9pm”

We'll see. I can't see Demons holding much more than 5m and I think it will consistently be soundly beaten by Your Country Needs You, possibly even from week 1. In It to Win It and Casualty should be back to their best in ratings terms with no XF competition.

And all the indications are that Total Wipeout, with Richard Hammond, is going to be good.

As for ITV "not pulling shows mid-run compared to the BBC", what utter nonsense.

3.4m (17%) for CLI at 10pm is better than News at Ten.

The thing about CLI was that it didn't flop properly. It really would have been better for ITV if it had because the semi success of it holding up well against Big Brother 6 gained it a recommission and that was where it really went wrong.

I can't say the January schedules look that exciting on either channel. BBC1 have Total Wipeout which has a very limited lifespan, but could do well for one series and the US version looked quite funny. But then it all looks a bit dire. The Eurovision talent show sounds lazy and ghastly but being on BBC1 it will still manage 5m at least. The Lottery and Casualty are total non events.

ITV should have some more shows coming on. I don't know why they have Millionaire on again, because they have a huge stack of Saturday shows that could take its place. Demons sounds interesting and BBC1 shouldn't be taking a massive audience so there will be an opportunity to do well.

That doesn't sound too bad actually.

Depending on what else is on, I'd watch that.

Why ITV why??!

THIS is why ITV can't be taken seriously. First of all they anger viewers by clashing 2 soaps with similar audiences. Then they bring back a show which has flopped many times despite many re-inventions. Then they comission a show with a stuipid name (although the winner of best show name has to be Fat Teens In Love) which has no chance of success.

Many of these one off factual programmes for ITV are ruining their reputation imo and if they are going to schedule them at least give them proper names and filter out the utter c*** and just leave the well made factual programmes.

I see three versions of the song Hallelujah made it into the Christmas chart, two in the top 2 positions.

What an impact that BBC iPlayer trailer has had on the nation...

I'm thrilled with the SCD performance. This series has been below par for me though but I dont think thats anything for them to be ashamed off. All reality shows have one poor series after the initial surge, usually along time before its 6th series. BB had it in S4, TXF probably S4 aswell but both came back with gripping S5s.

The early rumour mill of people who have been quoted as wanting to do it next year is great and I think they'll be an overhaul of the structure of the show, starting with Brucie at the top and going down to some of the lame camera work. DWTS in the US are currently in talks with Stevie Wonder (blind) and its this sort of profoundity they will look to probe on.

I do generally think this series has reached a more mainstream audience though, it used to be limited to dance school folk but now it seems to have enhanced its position in popular culture. Never before has it dominated the red tops the way it has this year and it won the public phone vote at the National Television Award.

Shows how far they have come since then

Obviously you also need to mention Castaway and that one where a celebrity learns a musical instrument on BBC1 last year

It's on at a very good time of year in general which is why I think it attracts the large audiences it does. Against a juggernaut like EastEnders, it is likely that EastEnders will dent DOI rather than the other way round. This is the time of year when tonnes of long running storylines come to a very long awaited climax. I think Dancing on Ice will hit 6-7 million at the most. EastEnders will definitely hit at least 9/10 millions viewers as it does this with much anticipated episodes throughout the year, let alone Christmas Day.”

In recent years ITV have shown the likes of Doc Martin, Midsomer Murders and A Touch Of Frost on Christmas Day - which are all guaranteed big hits any other day of the year, but none of which have pulled in much of an audience on Christmas Day. That's because BBC1 offers a massively stronger schedule throughout the evening.

I doubt Dancing On Ice will do that well, because while it's true it's a hit on a normal weekly basis, this Christmas show is just a bit of fun - there's no audience voting, no continuation from the series, no prizes at stake. It's completely missable. Strictly's the same, but benefits from the previous episode being shown five days beforehand, so it's still fresh in people's minds, as opposed to nine months beforehand.

Also, of course, World Idol was on Christmas Day and was supposed to be the most incredible show ever transmitted, and it got about four million viewers.

I notice that on Wednesday 14th January, there is a Foyle's War repeat currently schedule for 20.00-22.00 on ITV1. I'm confused- what about The Bill and Taggart?! Or is there some FA Cup football on that day, and it's just saying Foyle's War for the heck of it.

Also, seems like ITV are showing quite a few shows with 'Fat' in the title. Another one coming up is: Claire Sweeney's Big Fat Diet. Great !

Might not be because of the iPlayer advert, but just people buying it as a protest against the X Factor single. Either way, a lot of the money goes to Simon Cowell's label because apparently Sony owns the rights to Hallelujah, so I'm sure he'll be very happy.

Yes - a third round replay. Unless there isn't any, or there's only one and it's crap, in which case it's Foyle's War.

It will be interesting to see if DOI can continue to increase and continue the trend of reality shows increasing.

ITV have a lot of strong programmes in the new year, but equally they still have the drivel that they have been producing all this year-a lot of which isn't released in the press packs etc

But you defend such cultural icons as Hole in The Wall. If ITV produced anything even as remotely inance you would be having fitsz.

If you seriously think that the search for a Eurovision entry is going to be a mega hit for the BBC, then you have lost the plot I'm afraid.

They used to pull shows, but now they just shunt them to different slots e.g Natural Born Sellers shunted to Mondays at 10.40 (from Thursdays at 9) and Britannia High shunted from Sundays at 7pm to Saturday at 5.30.

ITV will have the same situation BBC One has had for the last seven years: great early evening ratings on football weeks, but fillers on other Saturdays.
