That's quite a strong rating in terms of recent ITV drama attempts! Plus the fact it went up against Casualty makes it even better.

ITV probably didn't get past 10% share until around 2pm, which is why the all hours is around 15%.

I've noticed that ITV1's all day share is sometimes low but that doesn't mean they failed in primetime, more likely the daytime ratings are dragging them down.

From Broadcast:

http://www.broadcastnow.co.uk/rating...a_whimper.html

Quote:
“Britannia High bows out with a whimper

ITV1's Britannia High ended with a whimper on Saturday, with twice as many people watching a Dad's Army repeat on BBC2 as watched the talent show drama's live final.
The ninth and final episode of Britannia High, which lasted 65 minutes, was watched by just 1.3m (6.6% share) at 5.30pm. It was trounced by a feature length version of Dad's Army on BBC2, which grabbed 2.8m (13.9%) from 5.30pm until 7pm.”

BBC1 had a good night above 6m for around 3 hours.

Strong drama performance from BBC1 with a strong peaktime schedule. Lark Rise had a 15 min head start on The Royal and had a AR lead in so was always going to perform well.

4.5m is a respectable rating for The Royal, but nowhere near what it should be getting at this time of year. I do wonder how Heartbeat & The Royal would perform at 8pm Friday or 7pm Tuesday reducing the soap output.

Maybe for longer, we still don't know what Antiques Roadshow got.

ITV really are crying out for Sunday nights to be fixed. Simple solution- put Emmerdale and Corrie back on Sundays, and when Dancing on Ice is on sandwich them inbetween the main show and the results show.

Basically in 2 weeks time ITV are sorted again on Sundays for 10 weeks. And as you say after then the solution is so simple-just moved the soaps back to Sundays, followed by either Heartbeat/The Royal OR a 2 hour drama.

ITV should also be sorted on Saturdays, as long as Demons proves to be a hit because it is at the centre of their Saturday schedule. Saturday Night Takeaway also returns in a few weeks so with a drama, Ant & Dec and Harry Hill, ITV are sorted at weekends until the talent shows start up again.

Exactly... Well Coronation Street, not Emmerdale...

Can I shout out the "S" word? Just wondering, where is it from?

Interesting fact from Saturday:

Quote:
“ITV1, and the rest of the industry, was forced to play second fiddle throughout almost all of Saturday. From 6am on Saturday to 1am on Sunday, BBC1 was the top performing channel for all but one hour of the schedule.”

Broadcast . They've written quite a few articles today regarding ratings.

I would assume Liverpool vs Arsenal mopped up a lot of viewers (and share) between 4-6pm yesterday. The earlier match (Newcastle vs Spurs ??) would also have done quite well. As would Man Utd in the World Club Championsip in the morning presumably.

BBC1 had a good night last night. ITV1 doing quite poorly I expected Clash of the Santas to make at least 6m

Casualty loosing 1.3m from Saturday too.

Let's hope Gavin and Satcey tonight at 9:30 can make 3-4m

True, and that would have dented ratings (and shares) for the terrestrials significantly.

I still think that Titchmarsh must have got a thrashing from Roadshow. 8m vs 2m, I'm thinking.

Hopefully it can, although it's up against The Bill which might dent it. The second of tonight's episodes, at 10.35pm, will do well thiugh, I think.

EDIT: Noel's Christmas Presents did well!

Noel did the business on Sky again.

From Broadcast:

Quote:
“Noel's Christmas Presents delivers for Sky 1

Sky 1's returning Noel's Christmas Presents grabbed more than 1.4m viewers (7.4% share) in multichannel homes at 6pm last night.

The 90-minute show, in which the one-time Crinkly Bottom resident rewards ordinary people's good deeds, added 78,000 viewers on multi-start, giving it a total audience of 1.5m.

The show peaked at 1.7m between 7.20pm and 7.25pm and the performance was enough to lift Sky 1 to fourth spot in multichannel homes between 6pm and 7.30pm.

It beat both Channel 4, which has a combined share of 6.4% for its 6pm News and the first part of its film Oliver Twist, and Five, which had 5.1% for the end of its film Father Hood and the start of movie Christmas with the Kranks.

Noel's Christmas Presents improved on its Sky 1 debut last year, when 1.1m (5.77%) watched the show on 23 December.”

BARB monthly ratings now out for November. Update on ITV1 monthly performance for the year:

Jan 2008 - 19.1% (Jan 2007 - 19.2%), Change = Down 0.5%
Feb 2008 - 19.0% (Feb 2007 - 19.7%) Change = Down 3.6%
Mar 2008 - 18.6% (Mar 2007 - 19.7%) Change = Down 5.6%
Apr 2008 - 18.6% (Apr 2007 - 18.8%) Change = Down 1.1%
May 2008 - 19.7% (May 2007 - 18.9%) Change = Up 4.2%
June 2008 - 17.8% (June 2007 - 18.8%) Change = Down 5.3%
July 2008 - 17.3% (July 2007 - 18.6%) Change = Down 7.0%
Aug 2008 - 16.1% (Aug 2007 - 18.3%) Change = Down 12.0%
Sept 2008 - 18.3% (Sept 2007 - 19.6%) Change = Down 6.6%
Oct 2008 - 19.4% (Oct 2007 - 20.8%) Change = Down 6.7%
Nov 2008 - 19.0% (Nov 2007 - 20.0%) Change = Down 5.0%

So the 2nd half of the year continues to be far worse than the 1st half.

Average change January to June = Down 2.0%
Average change July to November = Down 7.5%

November is not down quite as much as September and October (which were affected by Rugby World Cup in 2007). Even so, the success of XF and IAC has not prevented another significant fall.
