Actually I'd argue it's only because it's Christmas that BBC1 succeeded with their schedule last night. Otherwise none of the shows would've achieved over 6m (minus EastEnders, obviously) IMO.

When something like this happens (and I'm not detracting from any of the BBC1 programmes here) you can see why ITV1 just don't bother at Christmas. Even tonight, where their schedule is little different from BBC1, it'll get trounced.

Well I'm still surprised they did well, I said numerous times on this thread that Christmas Eve looked like their weakest day. It just shows what I know about scheduling. I couldn't believe how far ahead of 'Midsomer Murders' 'My Family' was. I didn't really see any trailers for My Family. That extra episode of EastEnders made a massive difference, with a lesser lead in My Family would probably have lost out to Midsomer.

OK, this probably means **** all, but:

Between 6pm and 7pm:
Emmerdale - 337 comments
Doctor Who - 75 comments

Between 7pm and 8pm
Coronation Street - 193 comments
Strictly Come Dancing - 183 comments

I'd probably laugh in that was reflected in the ratings!

If you were to x by 5.5 to get real ratings, you'd get 10.61m and 10.06m respectively for Corrie and SCD, but doing the same for Emmerdale and DH would get 18.53m and 4.12m respectively!

Yes, but there happens to be a place called doctorwhoforum.com where most of the DW commenting goes on. Not here. DW will get twice as many viewers as ED, easy.

Yep, I'll agree with that. Who would want to watch Emmerdale when Doctor Who is on? (Even though it wasn't too good tonight, I bet it was still miles better than Emmerdale).

EE never finished till 20:35.

I notice that Wallace and Gromit didn't start until 20.37, which will obviously distort its ratings tomorrow. EE must have been longer than 30 mins, as it started at 20.02/03 ish. It felt like far longer though, and there's another does of Christmas torture and misery at 9pm. (well, probably about 9.07pm ).

I would. No interest in Doctor Who whatsoever.

Yeah what happened there? Did they play extra trailers or something?

No, EE ran from about 20.03 to 20.35, making it longer than its slot, and after Doctor Who was a tight squeeze into the 1 hour slot, they were running slightly late. I'd imagine that The Royle Family will only be 50-55 mins to make up for it.

You'd think they'd be able to keep to the scheduled times on Christmas Day of all days, it's not like a normal weeknight where they have to hit the news at 10pm

Shrek the Halls proves-as the One Show does-that if you can get the right programme, it can start to threaten the once impregnable soaps. Given that soaps are more often than not getting less than ten million, that leaves many millions still to play for.

A quick note for Robbie.

14.06m for TXF results. I'll kindly accept my fiver now...

Very clever of the BBC running their schedule late by about 5-7 mins. It's going to increase the overnight ratings for their programmes, as you'll have some DW and W&G fans included in the EE overnights, EE fans included in the W&G and so on.

Well i'm quite mad at the BBC for this. I set up W&G to record but after finding out it didn't start until 20.37 i have now missed the end. If this was ITV doing it with Corrie there would be hell on.

I agree, what is so difficult about scheduling pre-recorded programmes correctly? Why didn't they go like this?:

8.00 Eastenders
8.35 Wallace and Gromit
9.05 Eastenders
9.35 The Royle Family
10.35 Blackadder

It isn't rocket science!

Yes, it's unfortunate for some people who have recorded the programmes. But I think some PVRs do start and end recording to the exact broadcast time? You can catchup on iPlayer, which has the episode up now .

ITV do run Corrie late into EE's slot nearly every week, but not as long obviously. I suppose they're getting a taste of their own medicine.

Totally agree. Its not like there was any live shows over running. Ridiculous!

There is no excuse to be running 7mins late.

I will probs catch up on i-player. I'm just not a big fan of watching stuff on the comp.

By about 30 seconds, you can usually hear the EastEnders music fading out in the opening scene as you switch over

7 minutes is a bit of a dirty trick to be honest. BBC1 will win by a large margin anyway, messing around with the schedule is not required

I agree that everything should have been scheduled 5 minutes later

The BBC didn't need to resort to this as they will defo win everything (with the exception of SCD which usually loses out to Corrie).
