So ITV performed slightly better in peaktime on their "Christmas Day" than the BBC did on proper Christmas Day.

I want some ratings

they should bring back Birds of a Feather while all the cast are still alive!!! none of them really do much now! would be nice

BBC1 should have put Jonathan Creek on yesterday, Boxing Day was a bit uninspiring. ITV held up well though.

That is worrying for ITV.

Id say its good for chronicals, not so good for POC...

EE did well, Narnia/POC dented corrie obv, but harry hill did well!

I seem to remember that last year's Boxing Day brought in quite low-key figures as well. I think Jonathan Creek on New Year's Day is perfect, personally.

I expected Pirates of the Carribean to rate better considering it did get about 10 million a couple of years ago. Harry Hill fared better than I expected, considering it was up against a film which started more than an hour earlier.

If we go by this years scheduling it works out SCD has its final on Boxing Day next year. They like an extra week on top of TXF dont they and unless they start it in the Summer they need it as their so keen on having 16 couples.

Isn't the X Factor Final going to be on the 12th of December 2009, so that Simon Cowell can get the Xmas No. 1. So that would put the Strictly final on the 19th possibly?

Great to see EE well above the rest, but the BBC1 films are a little lower than I expected.

ITV1's soaps were dented by the films and will be back up after next week. Great rating for TV Burp considering it was a different slot and up against tough competition! Also a decent enough performance for ITV's festive drama offering (based on recent ITV drama standards anyways!).

An excellent night for BBC2 which is holding up well this Christmas with its festive repeats. Though a very poor night for CH4 and FIVE who are suffering this festive period-that's 2 days now which CH5 haven't had one programme even above 0.8m!

BBC1 should continue to win tonight with ITV's very poor schedule-all repeats except Family Fortunes!

Duh...Of course it is I dont know what I was thinking. Alot of people including me didnt like the mid September start last year though so this is more wishful thinking. Its certainly plausible as its not bound to any formalities like TXF.

BBC1 had a great line up of films on boxing day, really enjoyed the watch even though i've seen them before. EE did brilliant again!!!

A bit on the low side for Pirates, really, as a repeat of the first one got 7m on Christmas Eve last year. Narnia and Harry Hill did well, but Caught In A Trap didn't do so well.

The whole of X Factors strategy is to get the Christmas number one, though this does irritate some as it takes the novelty interest away.

I think you are right and SCD will complete on the 19th. Hopefully things will go more to plan next year.

I did notice on one calendar that Boxing Day is on Mon 28/12/09 next year allowing for "Christmas Saturday and Sunday".Not sure if this will actually be the case though.

I disagree, it will do much better on New Year's Day with an EastEnders lead-in - I'll be disappointed if it doesn't get 8-9m, possibly more.


But 2 years ago, it started at a much more family-friendly 7.30pm and had no soap competition from ITV1. I think it was up against Challenge Anneka, which bombed with less than 3m viewers. So no surprise that it didn't achieve the same heights this time. I did expect about a million more than it managed though.

Desperate stuff for Emmerdale and Corrie. I can understand Emmerdale struggling with the early start no doubt catching people out, but there was virtually no rebound from the Xmas Day nadir. TV Burp probably benefited from viewers expecting to see Emmerdale.

Good to see the Narnia film do well.

I expect some fairly humdrum ratings tonight. But it will be interesting to see if Outnumbered can grab extra viewers having won a new audience last Saturday.

Jonathan Creek is perfect New Years Day material I think and it will be interesting to see how Marple hold up...it usually pulls around 5-5.5m.

Tonight I can see YBF winning the slot for ITV, but every other primetime slot won by BBC1 with Weakest Link, Lottery & Casualty all over 6m benefiting from weak competition. Outnumbered I think will get around 5m.

I can see Family Fortunes around 5m and the Midsomer repeat around 4m.

Probably see POTC 3 next year and Shrek 3 on Xmas day. I think the only way for ITV to boost its ratings around the xmas season is to show a few premieres like the bbc do. They have the rights to some great movies and maybe they should cut back on showing film premieres during the year.

Interesting that Emmerdale was also on at 6.30pm two years ago, but managed a fairly normal audience.

Schedule update:

I see that the BBC have altered their schedules yet again, for tomorrow - the TG Vietnam Special now runs for 75 mins until 9.15pm, putting everything on BBC2 out by 15 mins for rest of the night. Will be interesting to see what ratings impact that has - I bet ITV1 aren't too happy as it will certainly dent Affinity's chances with a probable 7m TG audience running over the slot by 15 mins. Shouldn't really have much impact on BBC1 with 39 Steps going head to head with TG anyway.

Has the Xmas Radio Times ever been as wrong as it has this year?!

Why would SCD have it's final on a public holiday? It's just too ridiculous to even bother thinking (or posting)about. What about the Xmas plans of the "talent" plus the hundreds of BBC staff?
