Appauling slot - Thursdays 19:30 to 20:00 directly against EastEnders is destined to fail.

This shouts flop.

Emmerdale NOT on Boxing Day, TV Burp takes it's slot. All of Emmerdale episodes in Press Centre are coming up with 404 errors for the moment....

How do you know all the episodes are to be shown in that slot? That particular episode is airing on New Years Day so there is a good chance that EastEnders may not go out in its traditional 7.30pm timeslot anyway.

Apparently EastEnders is on New Year's Day at 7.30pm for 40 minutes, according to DS Soap Scoop.

Was a little worried by you post D.M.N thinking it was gunna be 2 and a half hours long! :P

But if it is up against Eastenders then it is a bizzar decsion indeed! Although i hope it does keep a weekday slot for the whole series and not a weekend one, as we don't have nearly enough gameshows in primetime anymore.

Well, there's been quite a lot of changes just now regarding the Xmas Day schedule. It will most likely change, but it currently is as follows:

BBC1:
18.00 Doctor Who
19.00 TBA - Strictly Come Dancing?
20.00 EastEnders
20.30 TBA - My Family/Wallace and Gromit?
21.00 EastEnders

ITV1:
18.00 Emmerdale Farm
19.00 Coronation Street
20.00 Dancing on Ice
21.30 TBA - ?
22.30 Stanley Baxter: Now and Then

A half hour gap between the end of one eastenders ep and the start of another is silly.

If Wallace And Gromit gets put in there, it'll be a scheduling masterpiece however if My Family gets slotted in, then it will be an AWFUL move.

The BBC's best schedule would be something like, given ITV's soaps:

6.00 Doctor Who
7.00 SCD
8.00 EastEnders
8.30 Wallace And Gromit
9.00 EastEnders
9.30 The Royale Family
10.30 Gavin & Stacey

They could put Wallace and Gromit there. People are expecting it to be earlier around teatime (5.30). But in a 8.30 slot it could get some big ratings, especially with an EastEnders sandwich.

Duff info, perhaps? 11 episodes are scheduled over the fortnight (two on Christmas Day) so I'd be surprised if one weeknight night lost an episode to make way for a double bill on New Year's Day.

Corrie does it twice a week. And I agree, it depends what is put in between them. They do look like they're really pushing Wallace and Gromit this year with the idents an everything - I can't see what other half hour show would be worth putting in there.

It may be great ratings wise but I personally don't like the idea of it. I think strictly or doctor who should have been put between the two EEs.

But it's not the dramatic christmas episodes that are on when Corrie does it.

I just think something more dramatic should go there.

Family Fortunes still has a couple more episodes left so maybe that will air at 18.35. Though I prefered M&M on Christmas Eve.

All in all ITV's Christmas schedule is looking like one of their best in years with programmes scheduled in decent places for a change. TV Burp is in a much better slot this year and ITV have realised they don't want it to be the sacrifical lamb against EE, considering the heights it has gone to this year. Also Caught In A Trap is premiering during Christmas week which is great.

All we need now is to see what is airing in ITV's high profile 9.30pm slot, because it's not a film. TBH I'm struggling to see what high profile show could go there.

Interesting. No where near as strong as last year though. EE and DOI should attract a different audience, but it does mean EE almost definetely won't attract the heights of last year with a better split of viewers probably.

In a way they've adopted a similar approach to last year. they've decided what their main festive offering is and wrapped it in two episodes of EastEnders. Wallace and Gromit could do really well there - it'll have its own distinct audience tuning in, and theres every chance the entire EE audience will stick around to wait just half an hour for the second episode (as there is no soap alternative on ITV at 8.30).

Interesting that they've gone for Blackadder Rides Again at 10.30 rather than Gavin and Stacey like we might have expected.

In terms of programmes, its exactly the same as last year apart from swapping To the Manor Born with The Royle Family and an extra half hour of Wallace and Gromit. Overall, I'd say its stronger.

Now the scheduling is a bit different this year and ITV are perhaps putting up a bit more of a fight, which might pull the ratings down a tad - but the programmes are every bit as good as last year.

I think Gavin and Stacy underperforming on Fridays may have played a part. Also, Blackadder Rides Again is 90 minutes long and I would of thought it would be more suited to a 9pm slot TBH.
