Incidentally, NaT was just a standard "cheap" ITV News last night so it my have done well but it won't have enlightened anyone to News at Ten as a brand.

Yes, I pondered much the same thing on here on Boxing Day. BBC1 could expect to get 5-6m in that slot on a normal weekday, and you can expect people who missed the original showing/recording due to late running plus people who missed it but heard good things/saw the reports about its mega-ratings will tune in - plus people wanting a second viewing. I think an official audience of 15m for the first showing and 6m for the repeat is eminently achievable.
Wouldn't be surprised to see the repeat out-rate Emmerdale either.
I think ITV's News at Ten must have won its slot for the first time ever. Think about it, BBC News wasn't on!

Yes films aint what they used to be ratings wise. The first Superman film got 16 million in 1983 (though maybe that may have been considered a touch low way back then-people on here would have been saying they expected 18 million etc etc etc).
However SR should have been pitched to start earlier along with Pirates which suffered a bit in the same way.

Who knows but it seems to be part a growing trend of instant repeats -I just noticed that LOTSW on New Years Eve will be repeated as the first episode of the new series on 5/1/09.
Also both Weakest Link specials are having quick repeats and I think the same for the Blackadder special.
Dissapointing ratings for Superman Returns. You could argue that being up against Corrie could have dented it, but Pirates of The Caribbean still managed to pull in a good rating when it was up against Corrie too and I would have thought that Superman Returns may have been able to inherit some of EastEnders audience for the film. I was expecting it to get 6 million + but it performed badly if you ask me.
EastEnders and Corrie did well but it would be nice to see both soaps hitting 10 million on a consistent basis - maybe that's a target that could be aimed for in 2009.
WWTBAM did pretty well for ITV, but I am quite shocked that it won the 9pm slot as I think the format has grown tired now but viewers must still like watching it.

And the decline of the summer repeat of series. I suppose repeats of series now form part (or all of) multichannel schedules
A long film, too. I wouldn't have the patience to sit and watch anything for two hours and 25 minutes!
Lower than expected ratings for Superman Returns but I guess that the long running time plus zero promos contributed to it. ITV1 did well with Corrie and Millionaire and BBC Two did well with the repeat of Sherlock Holmes. Channel 4 was on par with the Blitz Witch and Five did okay with WSM increasing from Sunday and The Exorcism of Emily Rose which would have rated better if they had shown it nearer Halloween than after Christmas.
Films aren't really a priority for BBC One and ITV1 in primetime unlike Channel 4, BBC Two and Five and especially multichannel. ITV1 still hasn't shown Batman Begins or The Corpse Bride and I wouldn't be surprised if The BBC or even Five get the rights to the Warner Bros 2007/8 output.

Surely if ITV had the rights to show Batman Begin, they would have shown it before The Dark Knight came out? Or is there too much logic there.

They have the rights to show Warner Bros Films from 2003-2005 which includes Batman Begins as well as library title but it's strange that they haven't shown it as it would have done quite well.

These really do show how daytime is performing poorly atm as BBC1 especially has ripped up a strong 30% daytime schedule and much of it has been replaced by childrens programming/films. ITV has also removed strong programming such as Jeremy Kyle and both will be glad to see the daytime schedule back next week. Also FIVE are suffering without the soaps with seem to boost their schedule by around 1% each day.
CH4 and BBC2 seem to be the only terrestrials staying the same/benefiting from weaker BBC/ITV/FIVE schedules. I must say that's an excellent weekday share for BBC2!

I much prefer the repeats of Britains Best View to Kyle. I hope these repeats are getting decent figures.
If ITV stuck with the regular daytime line up they would be rightly ridiculed. The mix this week is quite good. Entertainment repeats & classic family moviews.

I even thought that the family films would perform better than the usual of property/antiques programming on BBC and Kyle & co. on ITV.
Strong ratings for Country House Rescue last night [inc. +1]. It got 2.12m (8.9%) last week (albeit exc. +1).

Great to see Ruth do so well on CH4 and it now seems the show has become a nice hit for CH4 and it should get recomissioned based on the figures increasing. Also this suggests she might probably work better in an 8pm slot.

I agree that the schedule is more varied this week and will perform much better with the reviewers etc, but in terms of ratings I would guess the Kyle/This Morning/Loose Women line up performs much better.

Not sure who is right there then....... I would have to guess MG as Corrie normally gets more for Ep #1 than #2.
7.7m is a great rating for Emmerdale on Monday night - must be its highest figures for quite some time. It shows what it can achieve when not competing with a popular programme like The One Show.
