Would tend to suggest that the Shooting Stars night did good business for BBC2, along with the TG repeat perhaps, and that BBC1 saw EastEnders inevitably depressed due to the Emmerdale clash and that Holby and Palin won their slots but with neither getting particularly great figures?

One scheduling move I found stupid was having Celebrity Mastermind on at 18:30 on Sunday and Monday, and then 19:00 last night. What's that all about? Why not 18:30 every night?

I'm sure it wouldn't have hurt putting Pick and Pom on at 19:00 instead.

After all the high ratings during Christmas and with The X Factor and Strictly Come Dancing finals, it all seems so boring now. Which shows will produce the next set of double digit ratings in the millions?

And will BARB update today?

Around The World in 20 Years performed poorly, considering some were expecting 6m viewers. ITV had a solid night, apart from an epic disaster in the 8pm hour.

When will the Top 10 rated shows of the year be announced?

I'm glad Taggart did well - it was a good episode in my opinion. The episodes for it are placed around so randomly though. The other month it was on Friday, then unexpectedly, there's another episode a month later on Tuesday. If ITV put the show in a more consistent schedule, then I could see it getting a healthy 5 million +.

The only good thing about the Emmerdale/EastEnders clash is that BBC3 benefits from it with a decent figure for the EE repeat. I wish the clashes would stop though as it would mean bigger audiences for both soaps in the long run.

I think the next show to get double digit ratings will be Dancing on Ice in January? Just my prediction. Corrie and EastEnders is also a possibility, but unlikely I think.

Not good for EE considering they've got a big story coming up on Thursday. Emmerdale seems to have seen a bit or a renaissance. 7.6m on Monday was its highest overnights in months.

We discuss shows and how they are doing in the ratings, but we don't boast about certain things. We may say "Good rating for ____", but we don't need comments like that, thank you.

And technically, they never. The clash is messing around both soaps, and needs to stop.

Monday to Tuesday transisition:
Emmerdale: 7.67m >> 6.61m
EastEnders: 9.23m >> 6.17m + 1.23m = 7.4m

Great ratings for Shooting Stars Night and the repeat of Top Gear on BBC Two, ITV1 did good with Taggart but did poorly with Britain's Weirdest Phobia. Around the World in Twenty Years was lower than expeted due to lack of promotion, Channel 4 has got a hit of their hands with Country House Rescue and The World's Strongest Man is doing well for Five increasing from the last two days.

Another way of saying no EE bashing on this thread.

Very wierd ratings this weeks for the soaps. The net effect of the stuffing Corrie and Emmerdale took on Christmas Day appears to be a little boost above average, while EastEnders has slipped back below average! We'll see what New Years Day holds for them all, but EastEnders will be a whole less confident after the past couple of days.

I'm not surprised Michael Palin rated so unspectacularly. It seemed like an odd thing to be taking a 9pm slot - I'd have expected a Sunday night, or perhaps BBC Two. And I guess the subject matter was a little exclusive to those who had watched the original series.

Good ratings for Shooting Stars which pretty much rounds off quite a successful Christmas period for BBC Two. They've found a lot of success in these themed nights which have provided a really great alternative to the main two channels offerings.

Yeah but even if you factor in the repeat it only got 7.4m.

The last time they didn't clash on a Tuesday EE managed 9.9m on BBC One alone with an extra 860k on BBC Three. Admittedly that was a major episode but does show what it is capable of without Emmerdale on the other side.

The Shooting Stars episode did well, but I was expecting a little more for the documentry, Maybe 3m?

poor for Around The World in 20 Years, but it was screaming for a sunday night slot!

Country House Rescue did very well for C4!

Taggart did Ok for ITV, but considering its competition and considering it got 5.9m the other week, I thought it could have done a little better.

I thought Britains Weirdest Phobias was great. Who couldn't have enjoyed seeing the women overcome her fear of windmills or the TV tower that she thought was evil. Has the British tv watching public no taste?

I think the problem with the soaps is simply themselves.

Five years ago, my mum would catch Eastenders and Coronation Street every night that they were on. Now though, she couldn't think of anything worse than watching them - she even banned them from the TV on Christmas day even though my gran, who loves them all, was up for Christmas dinner. She finds them depressing, unrealistic and on far too much. Even in the days of Sky+ when she could record them and watch them at her convenience, she just can't be bothered. I can honestly see this tend continuing and the soaps having to have a major re-think in the next five years.

On another soap note, how do we think The Diaires of Anne Frank will do next week? As usual with drama now, I was expecting them to be on at 9pm, but they've chosen to make them so they can be shown earlier, so that kids can learn about her too. Good move I think, but from the trailers, it looks a wee bit too much like Tracey Beaker!!! Still, I'll give it a go.
