Hi there,

I'm looking to buy a Blu-Ray player for around 50-60 (I know there aren't too many models out there for that price range) .. but just a basic Blu-Ray player that will play BDs is what I'm after (my laptop drive won't play BDs since upgrading to W8 and I have some that I haven't watched yet!).

Thing is, I think that whilst I'm at it, I should try and get one that can play multi-region DVDs (not necessarily BD) as I have a few region 1 DVDs with me at Uni, and my old DVD player that plays them isn't too portable, so if I can kill two birds with one machine it would be ideal!

Any suggestions? Cheers.

I doubt you'd go far wrong with this model Sony, ticks all your boxes.

It will be best to check but AFAIK the John Lewis model may be Region2 only for DVD whereas Richer Sounds state 'with DVD Multi-Region'

Actually I think 50 - 60 is more then enough for a pretty decent player. Blu-Ray players aren't as expensive as they used to be, as they are slowly becoming the norm now and within a few years I expect they'll replace standalone DVD players.

I do like my Panasonics, but these are recorders also. I think I am alone here in thinking one might as well by a recorder if one is buying a player, but I am sure logic dictates otherwise!

Rather a massive difference in price, and the recorders are seriously crippled as well (for copyright reasons).

Yes, a very fair comment re price - I did not digest the price thing (mind elsewhere!)
