In Krista’s bedroom, she lies sprawled out on her bed with Fern and Lucy on the floor, the latter two looking through a magazine. “Do you think Cheryl is even that pretty?” Fern asks innocently, as Lucy raises an eyebrow. “Um yes, don’t you see her on X-Factor live shows? She’s gorgeous!” Lucy protests, whilst Krista scoffs and gets to her feet, sorting out her hair in the mirror as she does so. “What’s up?” Lucy asks to Krista, who scowls at her. “Corbin…I just asked him to meet us, guess what he said?” She suggests, as Fern and Lucy look at each other with confusion. “What?” They both ask in unison, as Krista scowls again and then makes her way over to her dresser, sitting down. “He said no, and he told me to leave him alone. Clearly his sketty girlfriend hasn’t got the message, he’s mine.” She vows, before applying some lip gloss to her lips. Fern and Lucy giggle, and then both clamber to their feet to make their way over to her. “Maybe you should do something different with your hair on Monday at school. I mean, today him and the other Year 11 boys didn’t even notice us.” Lucy suggests, and Fern nods as Krista examines a spot on her nose in the mirror. “Yeah maybe…or I could just amp up the pressure. Before I’ve played pretty nicely, but I could go full out slutty on him next week. If I throw myself at him…he’s hardly going to say no is he?” Krista says, and Lucy shrugs, observing on awkward looking Fern, who has sat down on Krista’s bed. “Are you sure you’re just doing this because you want Corbin and not because you hate that Kendall girl? Everything we went through with Evie earlier this year…I don’t want it to be repeated.” Fern tries to say to an oblivious Krista and Lucy. “Well it won’t…Kendall can handle herself and Corbin was mine before he was hers, I’ll keep Evie out of it as long as she keeps herself out of my business.” Krista vows, before turning away from the mirror and getting up from her dresser stool, grabbing her phone from the bed and shoving it in her pocket. “Come on, we’re going out.” She says, walking out of her room with a final hair flick as the other two follow behind her like puppies.
‘Emelie Sande – Read All About It’ plays as the camera shows Shark and Louise sitting in the first row of the church, whilst other guests including Carla, Henry, Emma and Freya sit in the sparsely allocated seats. It’s not a very packed funeral. They are then told to stand, as the doors open and the concession carries Lucas’ coffin through the aisle. Louise closes her eyes as tears fall down her cheeks and she looks over to Shark as the music stops. “Where is she?” Shark says through gritted teeth, referencing Carmen. “She’ll be here…she won’t let you down. She’s done a lot of bad things, but you were there for her when her brother died, she wouldn’t not do the same for you.” Louise murmurs, as Shark rolls his eyes and then looks to the front as the coffin comes to rest on the staging area and the vicar comes to stand at the front. “It’s not looking god from where I’m standing.” Shark sighs, as the camera pans over to Carla and Henry, and the sound of the vicar speaking is drowned out. “You left the flat in a tip this morning, do you realise what I’m doing for you and you’re just throwing it back in my face?” Carla demands, causing Henry to tut and look down at his funeral programme. “Bloody typical of you isn’t it? Someone dies and all’s you care about is yourself, again.” He says sarcastically, which angers Carla and makes her close her eyes and breathe heavily in frustration. “I aren’t going to do this now, but just remember that you are on a lifeline here, I’m the one in charge…I may be letting you stay with me to prevent some other poor girls going through what you put me through-“ She tries to say, but he interjects her. “Oh shut up about you! What I did to you was so long ago, you need to just stop playing the victim and bloody forget about it!” Henry snaps, which causes Carla to look at him coldly. She stops herself from hitting him, before throwing her programme at him and storming out of her seat, leaving the church in a hurry. Shark and Louise notice this, and then look back at each other. “Shows how much of an impact he had around Digital Way…she couldn’t even be arsed stay for the full funeral.” Louise sighs, as Shark pats her on the arm. “And I’d like to welcome Lucas’ brother Shark to come and share some memories and celebrate the life of Lucas.” The vicar says, his voice now loud and clear as Shark looks worriedly and slowly gets to his feet, making his way slowly to the stage and looking back at Louise and then at Freya for support.
At number 10, Christian sits, sprawled over the sofa, as John enters the room looking dusty in some tattered old clothes. “Oh, there you are, thought you’d be at work?” Christian asks, as John shakes his head and takes a seat on the sofa, which is covered in plastic. “Nah, I took the week off to move in, but I need your help. I’d ask your mother but she’s out spending money, Lake’s nowhere to be seen and Krista trotted off with those friends with hers.” John says, as Christian rolls his eyes and turns the television off with the remote beside him, before getting to his feet. “What do you need me to do?” He questions, as John smiles and then ruffles his hair, gesturing for him to go through the doorway. Christian does and the pair walk through, and John leads him to a cupboard full of scrap material…every single bit and bob you could think of. “Are you kidding me?” Christian says, as John laughs out loud. “Oh come on! It’ll take five minutes with us both doing it, and you never know what we might find!” John winks, causing Christian to look at him with a dry look on his face and then begin clearing out the scrap from the cupboard, placing it into black bags which lie open on the floor. “So, do you like it here?” John asks, and Christian nods. “A lot better than the old place, not many ponces around here.” Christian laughs, causing John to smirk and unload another bit of scrap into a black bag. “I agree, which is exactly why I pushed for the move…your mother on the other hand-“John tries to say, but is cut in by his son. “Is not too keen, yeah I know. But she doesn’t seem to think that you wanted to downgrade because you were sick of the rich area…she just thinks you’re counting your pennies.” The son says to his dad, who laughs. “A bit of both really son…but what about the area? You met any locals…any nice looking…boys?” John says, forcing the last bit out of his mouth. Christian looks awkwardly and dumps another heap of scrap into a black bag. “You don’t have to do this.” Christian says, shaking his head to a dumbfounded John. “Well I’d say this if you liked girls…Christian, you’re my son, and I love you for who you are. It took a bit of adjusting to, but I’m over it…you don’t have to panic every time the subjects brought up.” John says reassuringly, causing his son to smile at him.
“Lucas was…well he wasn’t the most law abiding citizen. He did a lot of bad things, but nobody has a completely clean conscience. Lucas was just more upfront about it, I guess. He was honest and he owned up when he did something wrong, which is something I admire about him. He didn’t run away and hide, and he wasn’t a coward. He was confident, and even though he knew he could get any girl he wanted, he didn’t let it go to his head.” Shark says, before adding – “…Too much.” The few people in the church have a murmur of laughter as they remember Lucas, and Shark smiles fondly. “Now, for whatever reason, Lucas doesn’t have a lot of people coming to see him today, not his good friend Carmen, or his mum Carole, and not many neighbours. I mean, Carla’s just stormed out…but I can’t imagine Lucas wanting a packed hall with a choir singing to the lord. That’s just not who he was…but he was mine and Louise’s brother, and he was perfect in every way to both of us. Goodnight, and god bless.” Shark says, before kissing his finger and placing it to the coffin. Louise begins crying and Shark makes his way down to her, hugging her tightly. “You’re so brave!” Louise says, and Shark cries into her shoulder, looking momentarily at Freya, who looks supportive for him in the row behind them with Emma, who sits awkwardly playing with her hair. “I’ll kill both of them for not being here today.” Shark says with venom, as Louise pulls away. “Who?” She asks inquisitively. “You know…Carmen and mum.” He says, before walking out of the church as Louise stands at the front, shocked and now alone. “Now if you’ll all join me in walking down to the cemetery, where we’ll commit Lucas’ body to the ground.” The vicar says, as the guests stand up and the concession re-enter the church to take the coffin out of it. “That wasn’t as bad as I thought it’d be.” Freya murmurs to Emma, who nods back to her. “Yeah, makes me want to make a lot more friends around here though…Lucas had none today.” Emma sighs, as they walk out of the church behind the coffin. It’s now empty, besides Louise and Henry, who both sit in their respective seats silently. “I’ve lost a lot of people you know- well you do as you get older.” Henry says, his voice ringing out across the silent church. “I’m not old, and I didn’t deserve to lose anybody. Let alone my brother.” Louise replies back, before getting up and leaving the church as Henry raises an eyebrow and continues to sit alone.
“Please dad, just hear me out.” Carmen vows to Luna, with the pair of them still sitting in the airport café. “I heard everything you had to say sweetheart, I know you want me to stay, but it’s not going to do me any good. You may not need to be surrounded by people who don’t know what you did, but I do.” Luna says, before getting up from the table and grabbing his suitcase from the floor. “You walk away from me now, and you’ll never see me or the baby again.” Carmen says to him, causing him to stop and turn around to face her. “Well that’s good, because you’ll probably be better off without me. Both of you.” Luna says, causing Carmen’s eyes to well up with tears. “Please dad, just stay!” She cries out, and he shakes his head. “I can’t, you know I can’t! But you can visit me…whenever you can.” He says, which makes her scoff and wipe away her tears. “With everything going on around there? You must be joking if you think I’m taking me or the baby anywhere near there again…I would rather you in prison here than over there.” Carmen says, causing Luna to shake his head. “You were the one who talked me out of going to prison and to just leave the country.” He says, which makes her look away. “Well I’ve changed my mind, please, don’t get on that plane.” She requests, but he bites his lip as an announcement is read out informing that his plane is beginning to board. “I’ve got to go, they’re boarding.” He says, which makes Carmen shake her head and make her way over to him, grabbing his hands. “Don’t leave me, I need you! I need you! You’re the only person who’s got me through this year, if you leave I’ll be nothing, absolutely nothing!” She wails frantically, trying to stop him from leaving as he pulls away from her. “You’ll always be my baby, but I can’t go back to Digital Way. I’ve put the house on the market…Sunrise, it’s all yours, say goodbye to Danny for me, because I’m not going back there again.” He vows, before shrugging away from her and turning on his heels, walking towards the boarding section. “DAD!” She screams, standing in the café holding her baby bump, which makes Luna shut his eyes to prevent tears falling down his cheeks. He doesn’t look back, and continues walking as she continues to wail for him and people begin to notice.
“We commit Lucas’ body to the ground, earth to earth, ashes to ashes-“The vicar says, as his speech is drowned out yet again as the camera pans to the faces of the people who stand around the coffin. Louise, Henry, Carla, Emma and Freya. They all look down at the whole in the ground as the coffin is lowered in, and Louise shuts her eyes as tears fall softly down her cheeks, exposing the fact she isn’t wearing any make-up. The scene changes to Shark, who crouches down next to a grave in the cemetery, Rishi Luna’s. “I was there for her when you died…and you know what? She couldn’t even do the same for me. I let her in when Lucas died, and where is she now? God knows where!” Shark sighs, before collapsing to his knees and sighing. Footsteps come about behind him, and he turns to face the person…Diane Whiting. She’s dressed in all black, and carries an umbrella with her. “Wha-What are you doing here?” Shark demands, as Diane sighs. “I came to see him off, I heard about his death, didn’t really want to come anywhere near this place, but thought I’d come by when everybody had gone…didn’t realise everybody was still around.” Diane explains, as Shark looks at her venomously. “Where did you even go? You disappeared after the explosion!” He shouts, as she sighs and runs her hand through her hair. “I realised that Digital Way was no good, and whoever caused that explosion really wanted my family gone…they didn’t get rid of any of us though.” Diane lies, looking down at the ground as Shark narrows his eyes suspiciously. “Just seems strange, there’s an explosion caused by an unidentified person and you go missing…thought you’d show up to gain some sick satisfaction from your victim’s funeral?” Shark shouts, getting to his feet and trying to confront Diane, who backs away from him, submissively. “No, that’s not how it is!” She objects and he looks at her with fury. “You better start talking.” He instructs, but she shakes her head. “I’ve done what I came here to do, pay my respects…I know I shouldn’t have come back because all you have done is question me about the explosion when it wasn’t me Shark!” She says, before turning on her heels as he tries to stop her from leaving. “Don’t go, just please talk!” He begs, but she shakes her head and storms down the pathway. “I’m sorry for your loss.” She says, before getting in her car and putting the keys in the ignition. Shark races after the car and jumps onto the bonnet but Diane doesn’t relent and reverses the car, driving away from the church and throwing Shark to the ground in the process. He lies on the floor, crying, as Diane drives away.
The episode ends with a closing montage of events, with the song ‘Read All About It – Emelie Sande’ playing over it like the church scene. Louise cries at the gravesite of Lucas, whilst Shark lies on the pathway, crying to himself. Diane wipes her tears away as she drives her car into the heart of Birmingham. Elsewhere in the cemetery, Carla has walked away from the gravesite and is looking at the graves with a look of fury on her face, whilst Krista, Fern and Lucy laugh at text messages they are sending to Corbin, who in turn is sitting on his own in the flat doing his homework and trying to ignore the text messages. At the airport, Carmen stands at the window overlooking the planes holding her baby bump as she watches one of the planes glide down the runway, preparing to take off. It takes off into the sky vertically, and the camera shows Luna sitting on it, smiling as he looks out of the window down at the airport. He puts his head back against his chair and sighs to himself, before closing his eyes and taking a gulp of air. The screen cuts black, before cutting back into later, where the music has stopped and the plane flies through the air. Luna sits on his own, as a hostess walks passed. “Hello sir, would you like anything from the trolley?” She asks, and Luna looks and then smiles. “No thank you.” He says, as she smiles. “Why you going to Pakistan anyway?” She asks and he looks straight ahead, searching for an answer. “I don’t know…it’s certainly not the perfect place, but maybe it’s just the only place I can see myself getting by.” He explains, and she smiles before walking further down the aisle. He looks down as he recalls his conversation with the hostess, before looking out of the window again down at the ground, as the episode ends fully here and the credits begin to roll.
