Number Porting

I have recently signed a new contract with o2 online, i recieved my PAC code from Virgin and contacted o2s online help service and recieved an email with a date of transfer.

The day the transfer took place my Virgin sim went dead like it should but the o2 one didn't, and now 2 weeks later the transfer still hasn't took place.

I have sent numerous emails to o2 online and had replies with differing responses, all unsatisfactory. I now will have to phone them up to sort it out, defeating the object of online CS.

Has anybody else had experiences of number ports not taking place, i wouldn't mind but my Virgin sim is now dead but i have a useless temporary number which i refuse to give out on principle.

I'm confused you say "my Virgin sim went dead like it should but the o2 one didn't". The O2 SIM shouldn't go dead at all.

When a number is ported you don't get a new SIM. When people phone your old Virgin number they should get through to your new SIM.

The O2 sim would go dead for a while when I ported from Orange to O2 the O2 sim went dead for about 3 hours and then it came back to life with the new number.

Welcome to o2 online! Customer service based on shit - my advice: find a way to get out as soon as you can!

Are you SURE your number isn't ported over onto your new o2 sim? Try sending a text to your 'old ported' number and see if you receive it.

I did a transfer from vodafone to o2 online payg today, and my o2 sim didn't go dead at all, my vodafone died though.

Following on from Ross' comment - if you can send texts/call from your O2 phone and it identifies itself with the ported number but you still can't receive calls on that number you may want to give Virgin a call.

All connections to a ported number still go to the original network first - it's then the responsibility of that network to reroute out to the new provider accordingly. Where it gets messy is that T-Mobile will be responsible for those changes as it's a Virgin phone...

Your O2 SIM shouldn't "go dead" at all. Think about it, if it was to stop working, how would it receive a signal to start working again.

What should happen is that calls to your temporary number result in a failed call. But calls to the Virgin number result in your phone ringing.

You should follow brundles advice, at this stage it could just as likely be Virgin's fault.

Well I have had similar problems when i ported from Virgin to T-Mobile as when i called the temp number it came up "you have dialled an incorrect number" like it should but it said the same with the virgin number so just phone one of the providers up and they should get it sorted for you.

How does number porting with regards to charging?

I know that if I port to Orange from Virgin, if i call from a landline it is charged as a call to virgin/t-mobile.

BUT

If I port from Virgin to Orange and my wife ports from Virgin to Orange, If i call her, is it classed as an Orange to Orange call or an Orange cross network call ??
