I do not have BT or Talk Talk broadband. I have been offered a BT Vision box but I don`t know what it will do. Is it a freeview recorder type box that will allow me to connect to the internet and watch, say, BBC iPlayer, ITV player etc ? Apologies in advance if I appear less than technical, thats because I am. Thanks.

In a word --No.
It's like the one I have ---- nice door stop .

If it is cheap you can flog the remote, also end up with a nice hard drive and power supply.

Thanks for taking the trouble to reply, much appreciated. From what you say, I`ll give it a miss. However, if you know of a box along the lines of that Now TV, I`m looking for something that can effectively turn a standard LCD TV into a Smart TV. Does such a device exist ?

I was ripped off by paying £1 at a car boot sale for one of these boxes. Unlike the Sky and Virgin boxes it seems impossible to re-format the 160gig hard drive. It seems BT put some high level encryption on the hard drive.

Came across this from ProDave a while ago ...
Quote:"I bought one from ebay for 99p and £6 postage as an educational purchase.
I can confirm it does nothing, just hangs at the boot screen and eventually tells you to phone BT.
So I sold the remote control on ebay for £4.99
meaning that for £2 I got a 160Gb IDE drive (which I have used re resurrect an old freeview PVR I had in the workshop) and a power supply board that may come in useful for something.
The rest, sadly is junk."

The hard drive had some use ........
Regards
