We've been spoilt with stunts over the past year (well from Hollyoaks anyway) particularly last week with Emmerdale's Siege and the Explosion in Hollyoaks. Then recently we've also had the car crash with Phil Mitchell in EastEnders, the Tram Crash in Corrie and a countless number of fires... so all of this is leading up to my question: What do you think has been the Greatest Stunt Ever in Soap History?

In no particular order (off the top of my head):

1. Corrie's tram crash/explosion/Number 13 fire/Joinery collapse
2. Emmerdale's plane crash
3. Emmerdale's storm
4. Gennie's car crash (Emmerdale)
5. Brookside helicopter crash
6. Brookside bomb in parade/Sinbad trapped/Kylie trapped in rising waters
7. Phil/Steve Owen's car chase and Steve's death in EastEnders
8. Sarah Sugden killed in barn explosion
9. Richard Hillman driving the Platts into the canal/underwater scenes
10. Corrie's Don Brennan driving Alma into the canal
11. Mad Maya blowing up all of Dev's shops, finishing on his Coronation Street one
12. Little Mo and Trevor house fire/Trevor's death
13. Sarah Barne's parachute jumping death in Hollyoaks
14. Hollyoaks Dog in the Pond explosion
15. The wedding bus crash and explosion in Hollyoaks
16. Coronation Street pub fires (Bet's and Karl/Stella/Sunita)
17. Phil and Grant's car crash
18. Emmerdale 2013 siege and flood
19. John Barton car crash in Emmerdale
20. Family Affairs boat explosion/Hart family death
21. Bradley's rooftop fall to death in EastEnders live
22. Emmerdale show-home collapse
23. Jackson's level-crossing train crash
24. The original Corrie train crash (60s)

Overall, Emmerdale's plane crash and original storm, Corrie's Hillman's canal drive and Brookside's explosions are the best stunts I've seen. The flood/siege in Emmerdale this year was pretty epic too and the best car crash I've ever witnessed is Gennie's this year; just so raw.

In terms of drama, Steve Owen's final moments in the crash with Phil were absolutely amazing. Also Bradley's stunt death in the live episode was NUTS.

In terms of overall scope and scale, the Corrie tram crash cannot be beaten. 7 episodes including a live episode set in the carnage, the set being destroyed twice (for filming the episodes, and then again for the live episode), the huge Joinery explosion followed by the crash itself, and the fallout explosions and fires in the Street along with all the storylines reaching a head made it a week of soap which will be incredibly difficult for any soap to beat on the whole.

Yes, you've got to remember this was done in a real living village - it wasn't a purpose built set like they (and the other soaps) have now. Amazing.

The Emmerdale plane crash was absolutely fantastic and was brilliantly executed, especially in the days where technology was nowhere near as good as it is now.

The actual tram derailing stunt was hilariously bad, it was made up for by the superb acting.

I don't watch much in the way of soaps or stick with any at all really but the ones that have stood out to me over the years -

- The Steve Owen/Phil Mitchell car chase in Eastenders that resulted in the car explosion, and Phil unable to save Steve in time.

- Richard Hillman's canal stunt. That's the only storyline I ever watched in Corrie and thought was worth it.

- The plane crash in Emmerdale.

- The Emmerdale storm.

- The Summer Bay stalker, Zoe, literally blows up a wedding and goes out in style in Home & Away.

Erm, no they didn't blow up the real village, which was rather my point. On a purpose built set you can blow buildings up willy-nilly (provided you've got the budget). In the tram crash they destroyed the Kabin and shop for real. Likewise Emmerdale actually caused real damage to the Woolpack in the 2004 storm. When filming in Esholt they had to create the illusion of a devastated village rather than actually doing it for real.

The Emmerdale plane crash,as it was done on an epic scale and was before stunts in soaps became so commonplace.HO has always done well with stunts, partucularly the fire in the Dog and Sarah's parachute death. The Emmerdale one this week was fantastic.

Eastenders have a really poor record when it comes to stunts.I wonder if DTC will have a big stunt in an upcoming storyline.

I think Gennie's car crash was really well done. It was so realistic. I didn't see the plane crash in Emmerdale. The flood in The Woolpack that killed Cameron was also amazingly well acted. I bet the water in the cellar and the rain machines water was cold too.

Bradley's fall from the roof. Timing was almost perfect, but on a live show you have to give them huge credit.

Emmerdale plane crash for the "epic" disaster. Though Sarah's jump to her death is still heart wrenching to this day. Can't choose. Tram crash like most things from modern day EE is overrated.

The village of Esholt where Emmerdale was filmed for many years was rigged up with explosives and stuff and "dressed" to give the appearance of a plane crash I believe.
